Epic or Pearl

Hello

For my 30th birthday next year we are heading to miami. Sooooo dilemma.... Option to go the epic for 7 days with 3stops. Or pearl for 10 days and 5stops .

I have been on the Jade twice before which is why I am sure the pearl will be great but should the epic because of its size be experienced.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hannah

There's no doubt about it - THE PEARL because I'll be on that cruise as well!!!!!

But seriously, the Epic is BIG! There are a ton of things to do on board, lots and lots of walking, different choices of shows (none which I really liked, like the Blue Man), there's no promenade but they do have a pub open 24/7 I believe that serves fish & chips and Irish food. Huge casino! It's a great ship if you like to do a lot, see a lot and eat at the many restaurants on board.

I like the pearl because it is a nice mid-sized ship. I don't like to do a lot of walking or exploring, I just like to relax. Hope to see you on that March Pearl 10 day!!!

The Epic is my favorite ship, by a lot. It's the only ship I've ever sailed twice, and I'd go again in a heart beat.

In this case, though, I'd go Pearl. Also a great (although very different) ship, and the 3 extra days would do it for me.

:D

Epic is too big, too noisy, too crowded. Without a doubt choose the Pearl.

Agree - Epic is just too big. Pearl is our fav ship. Great crew. Plus 3 extra days, more stops. Hands down .. The Pearl

The trip on pearl has disappeared off the ncl website this morning.... Typical .... So emailed PCC to see what she can do. Still available on a few other websites so hopeful we can still get it with the great price.

Karma.... Should have gone with my initial instincts

Epic if you like to be busy & do a lot. Pearl if you want to relax.

*confused*

we had so many choices of things to do on the Pearl, I was wiped out trying to do it all lol

I would take the Pearl as it's smaller than the Epic. I am not sure I would like a larger ship, but eventually, I'll probably try it...just to see if I do like it.

PEARL!!!!! Love those Jewel class ships. Epic is the 2nd worst ship that I have been on. The first worse was freedom of the seas - so we do like a little smaller of a ship - and I LOVE stuff to do. Good luck.

why? (curious) I know you said smaller, but is there a crowded feeling on the Epic?

Try finding a deck chair on a sea day or waiting for an elevator. With 5000 passengers the Epic can be like commuting home during rush hour. Not MY idea of a relaxing vacation.

Allure/Oasis are even bigger and I loved every moment of it. Sailed full but I never felt like it's crowded. Always chairs, pool space available. Only "traffic jam" we encountered was right after muster drill. Went on smaller ship (Carnival Dream) and couldn't wait to get off that damn thing.

We were on the Pearl last year and loved it. Great people, great ship, great entertainment.

We are going on the Epic in a few weeks so i will let you know what I think.

Of course I would pick 10 days. I guess it depends on the stops and how much you want to do or see.

No matter what you chose just have fun & enjoy your time. I don't think you will be disappointed either way!

This completely sums it up. Epic was non stop action, we used the waterslides, climbing wall casino and the shows were just amazing and plentiful. Lots to do on the Pearl as well, but somehow that one just seemed more relaxing. Can't go wrong on either..:)

Me too. Love the AotS and OotS. The Epic is not even the same league as those two ships.

Really... Care to tell me more? I have an upcoming on Epic, July 6th out of Barcelona.

I was also on Royal Princess, enjoyed it a lot. And Carnival Dream made sure I will never set foot on Carnival ship again (yeah I know Princess is owned by CCL, but you know what I mean)

we went on the Epic last Nov-

it is a very large ship, so get ready to walk

except for when a show let out, we really didn't have elevator issues, as someone else mentioned..

a few things: the casino is very large and you might have to walk through it to get to restaurants and there is smoking allowed, so be aware if you don't like smoke-there is an elevator bank right there, so you can avoid the casino by walking to that bank on another deck

the walkways could have been configured better-there were many bottleneck spots if there was alot of foot traffic, but nothing major-

the one thing that did annoy me was that they had a guitar player/singer at one bar, then not far away was a piano player/singer-not a problem if you got a seat at the bar, but if we had to sit on the couches in between, I was hearing both at same time, and it made talking a little difficult-

of course this problem was forgotten with the help of the excellent wait and bar staff (once they got to know us, and that we were on the UBP) that never let our glasses run empty...
