Grandeur Pictures for your enjoyment

Recommended Posts

Thanks so much Leaveitall :) I could just live on this ship!

Thank you, Gianna - we love Captain Trond, a first class captain. We may have had Paul as a CD before on another ship, just can't recall him right now.

Biomedbob - Too funny - we definitely should not let our secret out! We've sailed on many RC ships, but have found the Grandeur to be our favorite just because of the crew and staff.

Happy sailings to all who are booked or are now thoroughly convinced to sail on this wonderful ship.

Nervous about winter cruise but excited to try out grandeur.

The weather on northeast based winter cruises tends to be colder (and depending on when specifically you cruise) and wintry on the first and last day of the cruise. But in our experience by the early afternoon of the first day after departure, as most itineraries are heading south you are off the Carolina's and the weather typically is warm enough to enjoy the outside.

The seas can be as calm or as rough as the weather dictates and unless there is a weather system in place, cold weather in off itself does not necessarily mean rough seas.

Just plan your indoor activities for those first and last days and the rest of the time you should be fine.

Hi MM..thanks so much for the pictures. We will be on the same sailing as you so we'll have to have a chat at the Meet & Greet. This will be our first sailing as Diamond so we are quite excited. I didn't realize there would be 2 formal nights as I thought I heard they were cutting it down to only one night. I better not start rumors.:D :)

Thanks so much for the pictures and review. We are booked in the JS 8078, went back to check the cabin again after reading that was your cabin. So the attendant got you a lounge chair without any problem. Was there any noise from Deck 9. So I see it's still a small closet.

We haven't been on the Grandeur since 2009. We know what she has and doesn't have. And she is one of the older ships. I know what to expect.

This has been our experience as well on winter sailings. Only once, from Bayonne in February, did we have somewhat rough seas. I think of the first and last days as being the equivalent of the days we'd spend traveling to/from Florida, only we're already in "cruise mode".

Carol,

Thanks for the pictorial review... We're headed on "lady g" in August, and I was a bit concerned, never having been on a smaller class then Voyager class. But you've shown me the light. We met on the Explorer in early January, in fact, we had brunch together. I was very glad to meet you. I hope your leg/foot is better now. All the best.

Kevin from the suburbs of Willow Grove. ;) :)

Concierges- Francis in Cl and Ruth in DL.

Looks like different concierges. We had one last August whose name now is gone from the brain - he was a very very nice man, but just spent his time talking to people he already knew, or working on the computer. In the end we had to introduce ourselves to him....

...and looks like Carol's captain was Trond Holm. We're on again this August with - hopefully - Captain Espen. Looking forward to getting back on board, especially being able to drive to the port instead of flying and hotels.:p

Thanks for all the great photos. I just got off last Friday, had a great time! I didn't get too many pictures of some of the common areas, so I'm glad to see yours. ;) And thanks for finding out about those metal sculptures on deck 4 Centrum, my mom and I were wondering what they were supposed to be!

Wish we had the time and $ to go again, soon....

I will be back on "Lady G" in 9 days.

Does anyone want pictures of specific things that I haven't posted here?

Carol,

We'll be on her in January (our first on Royal since 1990) and are currently booked in JS 8032. I try to watch for better cabins to open but have no experience on that ship. If you have the time, I'd love to know which JS cabins might have less noise from the pool deck, but are still far enough from the Centrum not to get that noise either. And maybe which don't have bed poles?

Enjoy your cruise!

That looks like a good location to me.

Friends were in a JS the equivalent distance from the Centrum aft as you are forward of it, and they said that they heard NO noise from the Centrum.

You appear to be under the hot tubs. I have not heard that this location is a problem.

I will try to find out if it has a pole. My friends' cabin had the pole, and they said that it was so inconsequential, they never mentioned it to me. (She posted the info on this thread after the fact)

Last week, I sailed on "Lady G" for the first time, May 30-June 6, 2014.

:)Thanks Merion_Mom for the great pics.

As you may recall , I am concerned about our group (12) sailing on The Grandeur after 6x on the Explorer.

How did you find the ship ? Will there be enough to do ? After the Explorer , will we be bored ?

Any info or your thoughts on this Ship will be greatly appreciated.

:)Thanks,Tom

Tom, it truly depends on what you enjoy doing on board.

The pool deck is beautiful - pools and hot tubs are as good as any ship.

Lots of deck chairs/loungers.

Rock (climbing) wall.

Casino.

Lots of trivia contests.

Piano player in Schooner Bar.

Standard shows in theater nightly.

Aerial shows in Centrum.

Good drinking and people-watching in Centrum.

Lots of game shows and dances (70's/disco, 50's & 60's sock hop) in the Centrum.

Sure, there is no Royal Promenade, but the plain ol' sittin' around is just as good in the Centrum.

No pub, but the R Bar in the Centrum is as good as hanging out in the pub.

Explorer doesn't have a Vintages, so you won't miss that!

Grandeur actually has MORE specialty dining than Explorer. Explorer still has only Portofino.

Grandeur has Chops, Izumi, Giovanni's Table & Chef's Table.

Viking Crown Lounge is smaller on Grandeur, because it has been carved up to include a Concierge Lounge and Izumi. But it has a Late Night Small Bites menu. :)

Grandeur has the giant movie screen up on the pool deck. Explorer has a tiny "screening room" down on Deck 2.

Explorer has full-size basketball court, inline skating & mini-golf. Grandeur doesn't.

Explorer has Studio B and the ice show. Grandeur doesn't.

I found plenty to do, but it is a more "low-key" ship than Explorer, IME.

Darryl Dyball is one of two of the best Activities Managers in the fleet.

:)
