Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #27 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Apparently SOME of the shops have to be sealed with zip ties! It is only Day 3, and just look at all of those liquor orders, boxed up and ready to go!
Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #28 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Lattétudes: Menu, for price reference (so many people ask this!) Ben & Jerry's is really the same counter as Lattétudes. Guy using Freestyle Coke machine. He said that it wasn't working very well. Or he said that he was puzzled by the timer. Not quite sure what his problem was. Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #31 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Experienced cruisers know about the "code" announcements, but for anyone who doesn't, here they are: This is the Public Address system for alerting the ship about emergencies. The three most common codes are: Alpha, alpha, alpha = medical emergency Bravo, bravo, bravo = fire Oscar, oscar, oscar = man overboard And here is this fun one: Charlie, charlie, charlie = security Each call would be accompanied by a descriptive location, such as Main Dining Room, Deck 4, port side. As you can see from the photo below, the announcement can be broadcast all over the ship or just to certain areas.
Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #32 Share Posted June 9, 2014 My week on board the Grandeur was a lovely, relaxing time. My cabin steward Yudi was one of the best I have ever had. He called me Mrs. Carol. ;) When we met I told him: ice twice a day, I use the "do not disturb" and "please make up my room" cards religiously, I do NOT need towel animals - you have enough work to do. He was always concerned about me. If I put out the "Do Not Disturb" card, and slept in past the time of his first set of working hours (they work a split shift), he put a card in the slot to let me know that he saw it, and if I wanted someone to come and make up the room, here is a phone number to call. There were already two robes in the room when I arrived. I asked him for two bars of the GOOD soap, and got them. (Gilchrist & Soames) It is my one indulgence. I don't use their shampoo, conditioner, lotion or shower gel, no matter the brand. But I want decent soap. :) As I mentioned earlier, I am really not drinking much these days. And the concierges didn't care if you took a drink out of the lounge. As a matter of fact, I would say that it was encouraged! So if I wanted a glass of wine with dinner, I could just carry it from the South Pacific Lounge on Deck 6 down to the Great Gatsby Dining Room on Deck 4. Therefore, I no longer want the bottles of wine as my D+ amenities. (I now get three per cruise. :D) Since this is a drive-to port for me, I got the beach towel (low quality :(), the "element bag" (not what I expected - sort of a canvas messenger bag), and the San Pellegrino water. Now, I got the San Pellegrino water on three previous cruises. I received four liter bottles. In my cabin? One bottle. Right. I could have ordered a bottle of wine, and they think that ONE bottle of San Pellegrino is ok? (the accompanying card even said ONE (1) bottle). I mentioned this to Danny (League), the Loyalty Ambassador, and he had three more bottles sent up. :) I think that when I return to the Grandeur in 18 days (!), I will get the water plus two bottles of wine, and just plan on bringing the wine home! :p
Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #33 Share Posted June 9, 2014 There were 250 children on the cruise. (they seem to enjoy announcing these things). I was thinking "so few!!!" Other people remarked TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY KIDS!!! ICK!!!! I think that SOME people  need to go on a Voyager class ship when there are 1,500 children on board! By the way, I rarely saw any of the rugrats. Almost no anklebiters in sight. :D The casino was less smoky than I experienced on Independence last month. The casino was also VERY stingy. Blech. LOTS of trivia on this cruise. There were sessions every morning, twice in the afternoon and once after dinner. In addition, there was progressive trivia. Since there are three sea days on this cruise, it's easy to fit in four sessions: three on the sea days and one on Nassau day, since we didn't arrive in Nassau until after lunch. We won progressive trivia. Paul Rutter is a rather low-key Cruise Director, but Love & Marriage was hilarious. The Quest was also excellent. I haven't been in quite a while. It really is much much much better on the smaller ships, in the smaller lounges. The production shows were very good. One of the singers is from my same town here in Philadelphia!!!! (Elkins Park, for the locals) Two comedians: ok. Not pee-your-pants funny, but not get-up-and-walk-out either. (Steve Shaffer, also originally from Philadelphia, but South Philly and Mike Novell, from Baltimore, who was more of a juggling comedian). Etta Mae. Apparently she is famous. I had never heard of her. Pretty funny. Headliner Earl Turner. ALWAYS a good show. One night there was an aerial show in the Centrum. This is part of the revitalization of the Vision class ships. It's sort of Cirque du Soleil-ish. It is called Seasons, and the singers sing while the dancers become aerialists and perform from ropes and silks. I enjoyed this a lot. I realize that it is not everyone's cup of entertainment. ;) There was also a very short aerial show on the last night of the cruise.
Merion_Mom Posted June 9, 2014 Author #34 Share Posted June 9, 2014 The crew and staff of the Grandeur are simply the HAPPIEST and the BEST that I have experienced. It is SO noticeable. I have a theory, but it's not PC, and I'm not posting it on this public forum. :D

Starry Eyes Posted June 9, 2014 #37 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Does Granduer have the freestyle Coke Machines? Maybe that one in a near the coffee stand? If so, did you notice many lines? I've never gotten a soda package on any cruise, but if they have freestyle machines, that might be a decent use for my OBC next month.

hdbag4vr Posted June 9, 2014 #39 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Hi: Great pics. Made me homesick for GR. I love that size ship because there are so few "bells & whistles." Was on in May and not back until July alas. Did not see any pics of the concierges in DL and CL? Also no pic of the CL on deck 11. Who were the concierges if you remember? See yours was a connecting cabin. Any noticeable noise from next cabin? Thanks and keep posting. :D JPK

Rare LMaxwell Posted June 9, 2014 #44 Share Posted June 9, 2014 I have to ask, because I don't get it, in each of your reviews you allude to knowing something or someone within the company and then making it a point that you won't mention it here. Why mention it at all in that case if it's privileged information or relationships? You seem to get some reliable information about changes so I don't understand the secrecy or "in club" attitude. Not attacking you, just telling you somewhat of a pattern I've seen in your posts. I could very well be mistaken:confused:
retiredgram Posted June 9, 2014 #45 Share Posted June 9, 2014 Thanks for the photos. Have been on the GOS several times and have never saw the casino doors closed when in port. Knew you could not play but never saw it closed. That is a first for me. Keep the photos coming. It makes it feel like I am on the ship also. Rare BillOh Posted June 9, 2014 #50 Share Posted June 9, 2014 CocoCay is great. I didn't get off this time. The Enchantment was there with us, and crowds turn me off. :( Did you hear if tendering took a long time? It was my 2nd cruise in 2007 Sovereign and Majesty were there the same day and tendering was terrible. But in the times I have been back, 2010 and 2013 I think they got more and larger tenders, but I'm not sure. I may not mind 2 ships, the island could handle it. When I was there this past October my scuba dive was canceled because I was the only one that booked it
