Question for "recent" Coral cruisers

We've sailed the Coral before when there was no International Cafe. I had assumed that when the IC was added it would replace the La Patisserie. However when I look at the deck plans, it shows both the IC on deck 6 and La Patisserie on Deck 5. Do they really have both?

I sailed on the Coral last July which was after the overhaul and adding the International Café. Checking the Patters from the cruise they had a La Patisserie on deck 5.

Yes, there are both, but La Patisserie no longer bas pastries. It is only a coffee/drink bar. They are unable to make decaf coffee there. I was on the Coral in May 2014.

No decaf? Never heard of such a thing. It must not be anything like the IC then. IC wasn't there when I last did the Coral, but I got decaf at LaPatisserie.

OK. So it sounds like if i want to use my coffee card and there's a lineup at the IC, then I can pop downstairs to LP. I can't imagine they're very busy. I'm surprised Princess hasn't found a better use for the space.

I was on the Coral for 11 days in March. There was never a line at the IC. I think that might be due to the fact that it's not conveniently located.

Yes, no decaf. I asked the bartender at La Patisserie about a decaf Latte. He said they only had the machine to do specialized regular coffee. It was one of those that you push a button and out comes the coffee drink of choice. Don't think you could get hot chocolate either.

But I did find a terrific barista at the Horizon Cafe (SanJay) who made me wonderful hot chocolates every morning with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate on top. They can make any coffee there. The IC by the casino was never busy. Really nice folks at all of these places.

And, there is no bar to sit at, so people don't sit and drink

for a while, and re-order.

Are you saying there is no place to get a decaf latte on the Coral or just that decaf lattes are not available at La Patisserie? We will be sailing in 3 weeks on the Coral and I love decaf lattes so I hope I will be able to get them on our trip. If they are available, please share in which locations you can get them. Thanks.

You can get decaf everything at the IC on deck 6.

I just got off the Coral on May 17th. The problem with the IC is that it is right next to the CASINO. .....the smoke did not make it a great place to sit.....The reason for no lines....it is strictly a get what you need and leave.....UNLESS you're a smoker:eek:

the pastry area in the far end of the Horizon Court is BEAUTIFUL with a BRIDGE TYPE view from your table. With skylights etc. It is the most beautiful buffet ive seen at sea.....just a nice place to have coffee and a croissant.

You can pick up your decaf lattes at the IC, Horizon Court, and even in the MDR at meals.

Enjoy them. I always ask for whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.

Roland...I didn't have any smoke problems during 2 weeks on the Coral last summer. We usually sat there enjoying our coffee drinks during the daytime when there were probably fewer people in the casino than in the evening. I'd suggest that others try sitting at one of the many tables to see if it's a smoky time or not. ;) With the IC smaller than on other ships we didn't see as much variety of food options.

Im an ex 2 pack a day smoker....and at times it was too much for me......on our sea days the casino being so small. When ever I walked by.....lots of smoke....

On the CORAL PRINCESS the horizon Court and pastry shop was/is so nice.....during operating hours the IC really was not used

You're probably extra sensitive to the smell. I was on the Coral before the IC when there was just a bar and a hallway going by the casino. I never noticed any smoke.

I just got off the Coral on May 17th. .....im not so senitive that I cant be around smokers...what they've done is cut the Casino in half and put the IC there......when you next sail the Coral. .....in its NEW configuration, I look forward to your updated review on the smoke levels

We also were on that same trip & noticed the same problem with the smoke. In the early morning it was fine but when the casino was open for business it became unbearable at times. I realize that they didn't have another option to locate the IC but they could have put up a plexiglass wall to block the smoke & keep it in the casino.

btw- I did hit for $100 on the Vault machine & it wasn't smoky since the casino was closed at the time.

Is there no wall between the back of the IC and the interior of the casino? That would seem a poor design choice...

No wall. There's a slot machine almost on top of when you get out of the chair closest to the casino. Don't forget. They squeezed in this little IC and took away casino space. AFAIC, they could have taken away the jewelry store. HAHAHA.......:D

They could have put the jewelry store in place of the IC but then hardly no one would want to shop there for very long. ;)

I've been on the Coral three times since they added the IC, and hardly ever see anyone in the jewelry store. But you know they NEED a jewelry store. ;)
