Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

I have a cruise booked in August and one in January. After that I am done cruising with Carnival. I have suggested numerous times to make one side of the ship smoking and the other side non-smoking. I guess we will go back to land vacations.

I am thrilled with this change . I left Carnival and went to RCI when they stopped the smoking now I can book Carnival again & return to booking a balcony .

Non smokers will now have fresh air on their balconies but the deck with the casino and cigar bar will be two to three times as smoke filled and crowded as they are now, especially when it's raining outside.

 

As far as I'm concerned it'll save me money. The less I smoke = the less I drink = the less I gamble = the less I spend money. The only thing I'll do more now is eat.

I hate to break it to those of you threatening to jump from Carnival to NCL because of the new smoking policy, but NCL is probably next. I only wish it would happen before my upcoming October cruise! Many of you jumpers have probably already jumped once or twice already when the other lines made this very same change. You may as well prepare yourself that very soon you won't be able to smoke on any cruise line balcony in the North American mass market. So you need to decide if you love cruising more than you enjoy smoking on a balcony.

 

Me? I'm thrilled with this change, just as I was when Royal made it. And Carnival not being able to fill their ships probably has less to do with their smoking policy than many other factors!

 

And don't forget that cigar and pipe smokers might as well stay put. Those are not allowed on NCL balconies. :D It is only a matter of time.

...and the smoker did the responsible thing and just decided to flick the cigarette butt anywhere he/she pleased. I'm sure there are rules (and signs everywhere) about throwing things overboard.

 

Yes there are signs about throwing things overboard. So if the legal smoker next to you flicks his/her butt overboard that makes it okay for you to leave you balcony door open? Or do you just complain about certain rules and think the others don't apply to you?

I am sure there will be fines given to people who do smoke and it would be pretty easy for a neighbor to take a picture or video for proof

 

No, it would be pretty hard actually with the dividers there. If I see someone sticking their camera around my divider, it most likely will end up at the bottom of the ocean. Or the person will get booted off at the next stop for attempting to take nude pictures of me. :eek:

Also be prepared to leave a hefty deposit that won't be returned if smoking is detected

true, but then you risk a larger 'clean up' fee if the steward smells the smoke.

 

There will be people hell bent on breaking the rules because they disagree with them. Not sure why they dont just patronize a company that has rules that they will abide by.

 

I say the same thing about smugglers. Disney allows one to bring on as much alcohol that they can carry. So does NCL.

In our city, beaches and parks are non-smoking areas. Maybe that's why we're so sensitive to smoke, we rarely come in contact with it in our daily lives.

It is legal but rights have been changing and smoking is not allowed in a lot of places now so just adapt .

" Guests who smoke in their staterooms or on their balconies will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign shipboard account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's ticket contract."

 

So i will pay the $250 simple as that

Probably not but can't admit it

 

The next thing will be that they are " addicted" and should be afforded special services

 

I actually had a nurse use that line on me 20 years ago when I complained that the new mother next to me was smoking in bed while nursing her baby!!!!

 

Bottom line. Nurse that allowed it suspended and head nurse came in to profusely apologize that the other nurse allowed the smoking and it won't happen again

 

They were probably concerned I would report it up the line

Oh they will absolutely toss them off the ship

 

I wonder if the travel insurance will cover them since any expense they incur would be due to breaking rules that they blatantly ignored?

NCL does not allow you to carry on as much as you'd like.

However, passengers who are 18 to 20 years of age can purchase and consume beer or wine when the ship is in international waters (does not apply to Alaska or Hawaii sailings). A parent or legal guardian must be onboard the sailing with the minor and sign a consent form at the front desk.

 

Bringing Booze Onboard

Bringing liquor onboard at embarkation: It's not allowed -- items are secured until debarkation day.

 

Bringing wine or Champagne onboard: It's allowed, but you'll have to pay a corkage fee for all wine that is brought onboard. Fees are $15 for 750ml bottles, $20 for 1,000ml and $30 for 1,500ml. Boxed wine is not allowed.

 

Purchasing liquor in port: It will be retained until the end of the cruise.

You won't smoke on the balcony next to me. Because I'll complain every single time I smell smoke out there. I'll demand to be moved because they are not enforcing the rules. One of us will have to go. Guess which one it will be? ;)

I would be reviewing your cruise contract very carefully. A violation of the smoking guidelines will cost you $250 for any violation. They also deem that to be a breach of contract and can put you off at the next port. That attitude of "so what" can end up costing you a lot more than $250 as they expressly state that you are responsible for repatriation expense. Meaning you pay to get back home.
