Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

So any bets on how long till it's one and then NONE ?

I'd guess HAL will be changing their policy sooner then later leaving Norwegian.

NCL is a tougher estimate as they are overwhelmingly owned by an Asian conglomerate and a hedge fund.

Asian smoking attitudes seem to be a decade behind ours and the fund is no doubt waiting to be how this all shakes out.

Thus it may take a while but eventually ...

Interesting point on NCL.

Oh semantics now...

Not semantics......many people it seems just don't know the difference. If I was preaching to the choir, I apologize.

Either way, HAL is a great cruise line immaterial of who it is owned by and I suggest you check them out. If you don't want to, that's fine, i just wouldn't mark them off simply because CC owns them but that obviously is your choice.

And here I thought that the majority of the debate on this since last night was going to be on who gets the 50 cents a day. Boy was I way off base.

Well, it's already been suggested to add security team members to be added to the tip pool.

No, we won't be booking anymore with them. This was the nail in the Coffin! We have one that is too late to cancel but cancelled our Pride Repo for March.

Let's see what will I miss: Poor Entertainment, a DJ blasting Hip Hop/Rap upon Embarkation and up on Lido (no live bands), a decline in food quality and choices, a decline in Service due to cutbacks of Staff, a drunk puking next to us at Muster, a drunk puking next to us on his balcony (different cruise), fat people who smell on Scooters (only on Scooters because they are fat) and who are rude and feel entitled, limited live music played for a pre-dinner drink, lines to get into a Comedy Show (and sometimes can't get in), unruly, unsupervised kids, the Guitar player out on a date with her same-sex lover cuddling & stroking eachother in the Red Frog Pub, the Trivia Host being disrespectful toward the Captain when the Captain comes on to make an announcement, fat people in spandex and basketball shorts and Wife Beater shirts in the MDR, etc.

Actually, we won't miss any of this at all! :) Thanks, Carnival!

So you're basically implying that being able to smoke on your balcony was your only reason for choosing Carnival while at the same time having to spend your week's vacation trudging through all those horrible, distasteful, nasty things mentioned above?! I find that hard to believe...

I don't have a crystal ball so I don't have a clue. And in reality, neither do you. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Either way, I don't care. I book PTs anyway so am used to heading up to the Lido to smoke. Now if they ever make the ship completely smoke free, I'll go to cruise lines that still allow smoking. If they make all cruise lines fully non-smoking down the road (and I doubt that will happen in the next 25 years that I expect to live), I'll give up cruising and do more timesharing. Either way, I'll be on a great vacation somewhere that I can smoke in some form or fashion.

I can see them now, working their way up and down balconies with suction cups on hands and feet looking for those evil wrong doer smokers. Once taser'd subdued and hog tied all is once again well in the land of the Funnel. Actually, this could be the the new evening entertainment.

They won't need security. There are cameras along side the ship. They can see if you light up. Especially at nite. Plus if your close to the bridge they can see right on your balcony.

The real question... would you give them each an additional $20-$50 on embarkation day?

There goes my brilliant idea.

Nahhh, you know me better than that. I will tip them extra based upon how many people I get to see get tasered.

Also the corkage fee is charged as you check in. No drinking it in the cabin without being charged corkage.

Actually the corkage fee is only charged if you want to drink your wine at dinner. Drinking it in your room is free, no fee applied. Just don't forget your wine bottle opener. Cheers!

I say the same thing about smugglers. Disney allows one to bring on as much alcohol that they can carry. So does NCL.

NCL DOES NOT allow you to bring on alcohol. Just read their FAQ section.

GINA K

If you read the FAQ section on NCL any wine brought on to be consumed on the ship in the dining rooms or even IN YOUR CABIN are assessed a corkage fee.

I think this post was in reference to NCL wine policy, but I fell for it as well.

I am an NCL cruiser and an NCL stockholder. So when I read the number of Carnival cruisers who are so angered by the smoking policy changes on their cruise line of choice, that they are going to cancel their booking and jump ship to NCL, I say "COME ON OVER!" :D

However, I am a non-smoker and I respectfully ask you to follow the NCL smoking policies. Plus, NCL doesn't allow any smoking in the nightclubs, and has limited smoking areas on the decks on and above the pool area.

NCL offers an affordable product, with a variety of cruisers, from honeymooners, the elderly, extended families, singles and like myself (ahem) the middle aged but super fun and awesomely cool married couple. Oh, and our current daily service charge is $12 and NCL also offers an unlimited beverage program. Go to NCL's website or use the search in C.C. to update yourself on it.

Again, WELCOME FORMER CARNIVAL CRUISERS TO NCL!!!!

p.s. I forgot to add, we don't want the grumpy, complaining, chair hogging, buffet line cutting, theater seat saving, cruisers. We have enough of those cruisers along for the ride already...;)

Thank you. We were on the Breakaway earlier this year. We had a very enjoyable time. Since Carnival now wants to go back in time to the Paradise days (which didn't work out so well) along with all the other cutbacks, NCL may become our new cruise line.

So here is my ONLY issue with the new policy. It also includes e cigarettes. If I could use it on my balcony, I would, but since I cant, I might as well have a real one.

And before it happens... allergies to cigarettes doesn't not mean allergies to vapor.

I do like to play devils advocate.

I am not thrilled about no smoking on balconies. Imagine the casino bar, the entire floor would be a fog of smoke if every smoker went there instead of their room. I sincerely hope they ban it on port side though, then people who smoke can book starboard side balconies (if I remember starboard is the smoking side on deck). Non smokers can use the port side balconies everyone happy.

Now that is an idea everyone can live with!!

Wrong.....

Wine & Champagne Policy Guests may bring bottles of wine and champagne on board. When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes noted below. 750 ml Bottle: $15.00 1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00 Wine or champagne sent directly to the ship by travel agents, friends, family, etc. or from another retail source, are subject to the same fees. Box wines are not allowed on board.
