Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

I still feel for the loss of anyone's freedom..maybe they could make some high end glass enclosed air filterd before it goes out side pseudo balconies..or special fanned ones where air flow is really studied until smoking is gone for good..

 

Most of us who can't take it are quiet about it in public..just as most smokers try to respect others..but ..it is like a bubble that does not stay contained..sarah

 

Again..i wish e cigs could get improved so no issue and smokers could have them everywhere..

 

Maybe Washington State will now offer some pot cruise specials...LOL..sigh..Sarah

 

They are giving over 90 days notice and maybe will give a no cancel fee break to those early savers who smoke and can not adjust to this..

YAY! I'm so happy. I cannot stand smoking. It reminds me of how my grandfather just passed away from smoking all his life. :( Thank you Carnival! I really do not care if the tips are rising, just because employes just do not make enough for what they do.

OK... there is a way to save money and have your smokes. For those that had upgraded to a balcony since the 2011 rules, just book an inside or oceanview, have a smoke and pay the $250 cleaning fee. In the end you could save money. This may also drive balcony prices back down... all good news.

 

Also... we need another new rule/prohibition. I don't want to allow anyone up-wind of my balcony to be served Mexican food or broccoli the evening before sea days.

I called it on the smoking ban; I said by 2015. Many felt similarly. We got shouted down.

 

My wife abhors smoke and will not consider any cruise where balcony smoking is permitted. This makes the choice to consider cove balconies easy.

I love this no smoking policy. To all those who say they will not cruise Carnival anymore, the non-smokers thank you. We can finally sit on our balcony and breathe in the fresh air and not worry about inhaling 2nd hand smoke. Thank you CARNIVAL! GREAT MOVE!!! Also, Carnival will gain a lot more cruisers.

We went on Conquest in May and had OV room where we were basically given the OK by our room steward to vape in room, which we did with no problems. We otherwise followed rules and contained our vaping to smoking areas. Casino bar was so overcrowded with smokers two and three deep while non-smoking bar area was empty! Also was like this on Paradise in October.

My take on this is that the smoking areas are overfull even though less people smoke nowadays. Maybe a greater percentage of smoking population chooses cruising because they can still smoke? This may change things for them and affect Carnival's bottom line differently than expected. What about all those cartons of cigarettes they are selling?

Anyway, vaping should be allowed on balconies and in room. Kinda knew this was coming down the pipe soon and am glad I quit smoking/switched as I am able to do in Airports and such without having to go outside and back thru security or to the nastiest glass smoking cage ever at the Atlanta airport!

Have a balcony room booked on Valor Sept 2015! If we were still smoking, I would be upset.

We will not go NCL because I do not think my autistic daughter will be welcomed. Plus, i hate the dining policy.

And you booked that balcony knowing you could have a smoker near you because that was the policy, so you should have no complaints about...shocker!... a smoker being near you.

 

 

One can always hope!! We enjoy the balcony and have had several cruises WITHOUT a smoker near us. Why would I let a smoker stop me from booking the cabin I want??

As one who enjoys a cigar every now and then, and several times during our cruise, its not a deal breaker for me. I prefer to go to an upper deck or cigar bar/lounge than on my balcony. I guess I'm going to enjoy it for this cruise before the new regulations to take place.

Okay...I am a non-smoker. With asthma. VERY sensitive to cigarette smoke. BUT...I have no problem with someone smoking on their balcony. Yes, the smoke does on occasion waft over to the next balcony. But it's not that big of deal to me. I know there are certain places I choose to do business with which still allow smoking. Primarily some bars, casinos, outdoor sporting events, and, yes, cruise ships. I have FAR MORE frustration with the fact that I live in an apartment building -- a 4-plex, really -- where we are the ONLY apartment of non-smokers. Walking in to the front door of our building can be more than a bit overwhelming at times! And the smell of cigarette smoke seeping in to my apartment from the apartments around me causes me much more distress than what little smoke I might have to deal with on my balcony on a cruise ship!

Why couldn't they just ban smoking from balconies on one side of the ship instead of all balconies? I hope they get a lot of negativity from this, and have to reconsider this new policy. Any cruise with NCL do they allow you to smoke on balconies?

We were excited to gear that Carnival was going to offer one way cruises next year and have been saving to do that. However if they do away with being able to smoke on the balcony it looks like an all inclusive land vacation is a better fit for us.

I am sure there will be fines given to people who do smoke and it would be pretty easy for a neighbor to take a picture or video for proof

Non smoker here, love the idea of a ban, although the smoke doesn't bother me, as I grew up with it when visiting my grandparents. End of the day, you won't be able to stop people from smoking, you're going to have people that will always think they are above the rules.

 

As for tipping, I'm totally okay with the increase, I always tip above and beyond what they gratuities are.

It doesn't linger, it gets sucked right into the neighboring cabins. I think smokers are blowing smoke on how rude they are and don't realize it.

 

I've never been able to figure out how smoke can linger on a balcony when the ship is traveling at 21 knots. I think a lot of non smokers are blowing smoke themselves.

It's an eCig, not a regular cigarette. Rules or not, in the privacy of your stateroom, something at the discretion of someone who may not be educated on the subject, there really is no need to ask permission.

I really think its funny that everyone gets so hot on the smoking subject.

 

Let people smoke on their balconies. The ship is traveling at 21 knots. There is no lingering smoke, its outside!

 

Some people aren't going to stop being offended unless they shoot everyone that smokes.

 

Either you don't cruise often or have never had a balcony

 

Btw people smoke on the balcony when in port and no wind

Of course they will stop pax from smoking on the ship via fines removal from the ship and eventual cruiseline blacklisting

 

I can't believe you actually believe on this day and age that the ship won't be able to stop them from smoking.

I hate to break it to those of you threatening to jump from Carnival to NCL because of the new smoking policy, but NCL is probably next. I only wish it would happen before my upcoming October cruise! Many of you jumpers have probably already jumped once or twice already when the other lines made this very same change. You may as well prepare yourself that very soon you won't be able to smoke on any cruise line balcony in the North American mass market. So you need to decide if you love cruising more than you enjoy smoking on a balcony.

 

Me? I'm thrilled with this change, just as I was when Royal made it. And Carnival not being able to fill their ships probably has less to do with their smoking policy than many other factors!
