Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

Never happen. Lots of gamblers smoke they ban smoking in casino and watch the price of cruises sky rocket.

 

 

Um, lots of non-smokers gamble too and some avoid the casino altogether because of the smoke. No offense, but you really have no idea how many people will return to the casino if it's smoke free so cruise prices are not necessarily going to rise.

I was just getting ready to book a Carnival cruise, but now I have to jump ship because of the smoking rule. Why can't cruise ships make one side of the ship balcony smoking and the other non smoking.

 

Because there's not enough smokers to fill up one side of the ship, and not enough nonsmokers who wants to be next to someone who smokes on the balcony. I'm sure there will be designated areas where smokers can smoke.

What amazes me are the ones who are so determined to continue smoking that they're willing to pay the $250 fine just to have their way.

 

This could wind up a real money maker for Carnival.

I have used my e-cig (which looks nothing like a cigarette) all over Disney and have never had anyone say anything to me. That being said, I do not vape in lines, restaurant's, or in the middle of any crowd.

 

The official policy is eCigarettes are limited to designated smoking areas. The reason no Cast Member has said anything to you was in my original post. Having been a Cast Member, I believe I know the policies that guests are subjected to when visiting any of the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort. They have been presented during continuous training and Cast Updates, as well as being listed on the company's intranet site and in the Employee Policy Manual.

I just returned from a vacation to the coast. The hotel we stayed at all had balconies. On every balcony was a sign that said "No smoking allowed on any balcony or in the room. Violation of this policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee." Perfume IMHO isn't as offensive as cigar or cigarette smoke.

I for one am VERY happy that I will be able to enjoy my balcony without worry of having a smoker next to me. I had a smoker on my Glory cruise that made it almost impossible to ever go out b/c they sat there and smoked one right after another, and the smell was blowing right over.

 

I received the official email from Carnival about this. :) Thank you Carnival!

 

And I would hope that .50 cents a day isn't going to break anybody. Those folks work really hard, and most of them deserve way more than they get.

That's nice they think that but the actual statistics are 18.1% of US adults smoke, and the percentage at income levels where people can afford to cruise is less than that. It would take too long to fill the ships if they had to reserve half the ship for non smokers.

But, carnival is Walmart of the seas:D. For Walmart shoppers, the percentage is higher.:p

 

OK seriously, I do not mind smoking (or Walmart:o). But on my recent RCCL cruise, I went to casino once and there was no smoking at all. I do not know if it was a smoking-free night or what. But there were still plenty of people there even no one was smoking.

I doubt it. The week Royal Caribbean announced their smoking ban their stock price was around $37. Today it is $55.

 

I don't attribute that gain to a smoking ban. There's far too many inward and outward forces at play, but suffice it to say, if banning smoking was a major issue the stock would be depressed, not up $18 a share in 10 months.

After my next cruise it's back to NCL until they ban it on balconies. I am a very considerate smoker . I have always had smokers next to me on balconies. There are very few places in public that one can smoke and I see a very smoky casino and Lido which will be the next to have the ban. If they are going to do that then they may as well ban drunks who have physically harmed people on my CCL cruises. Once the ships become entirely smoke free, the cruise lines will suffer financially because there are just not enough non smokers to fill their ships. My message to CCL...stop the new builds you are in for a rocky ride.

RCCL has a couple non smoking nights in the casino per cruise. Usually on formal nights.

 

For those insisting that they'll continue to smoke on their balconies after the new policy takes effect, I assure you I wouldn't tolerate it. I'll be on the phone to security at every and any hint of smoke. Ill insist they enforce their own policies. I tolerated my smoking neighbors in the past because i had no choice. They weren't breaking any rules. But finally i get to have use of my balcony without the disgusting, loathsome smell of cigarette smoke and trust and believe, I fully intend to.

The people who think that "taking their dollars to NCL" is going to matter to Carnival are delirious. I see a return of many people who went over to RCL when they banned smoking in addition to the additional revenue from the people who only book IS or OV to avoid the smoke. The net outcome for Carnival is, the people who booked the IS and OV will now move to balconies, smokers will book the previously vacated IS and OVs but at a $250 premium. Sounds like a win/win to me. And if you don't believe me, go back through this thread or over to "a blog" and read how many smokers are saying they will simply pay the $250 fine and book the IS or OVs.

Here is an idea for Carnival on the enforcement on this new policy.

 

If you are out on your balcony and see a near by neighbor enjoying a smoke, you call Guess Sevices. They send someone to verify the violation of the policy and then fine the guilty party $250, and reward you $50 OBC for helping them catch these holigans. This will then give you 5 more cocktails to cheer your new OBC!

I'm gloating - oh yes I am!!!:D I knew this day would come because too many people like me walked away due to the smoking policy on Carnival. For every smoker that cancels there will be people like me who will now return. GREAT job Carnival!!!

 

Maybe it was all the emails from many passengers complaining about booking a balcony only to have smokers on both sides of you. We were on the Star Princess to Alaska recently and there was someone smoking 2 balconies away. I reminded them that there was no smoking allowed on balconies. They kept right on so I called Security. That was the end of the smoking for the rest of the cruise. There were plenty of smoking places on the ship, but they were too lazy and inconsiderate to go where they were suppose to go to smoke. And I agree, people like me and you will now come back to Carnival and enjoy a smoke-free balcony.:p

I hope this is true too, I have kinda avoided balconies for fear of the smoking, i have asthma and already limit my time in the casino, but have splurged on an aft balcony.

 

As for the tipping, i always tip extra so not a big deal.

But those smokers who think they can just pay the $250 over and over again are mistaken as they will cause too much hassle for carnival in the long run

 

I pity the cruiseline if I happen to be booked in an ov where the previous pax smoked and got away with it.

 

Fwiw every other ov and is pax will be complaining constantly about the smokers

 

Why? Because the is and ov pax are fully aware of the no smoking clause because they just are as they either don't smoke or booked the room because it did not have a balcony. And want to avoid smoke!! All pricing issues aside if course.

Since this will probably be my last cruise you're darn right I'm going to make a statement. Come stand next to me while I'm in the smoking area and wave your arms around while fake coughing and watch me.

 

Actually, the AMA is responsible for reporting the news about Cancer and smoking. Thus began the anti-smoking crusade. The bans on public smoking have been spreading for years. The areas a smoker can smoke have been shrinking rapidly and smokers need to face that fact. Your only 2 choices are to accept the limitations or to quit.

It's not all fake coughing. I'm sure some people overreact and get dramatic, but not everybody. Some people do indeed have sensitive lungs. All sorts of things can set my daughter off into a coughing spree, and cigarette smoke does happen to be one of them.

 

Now, will I be taking her to the casino in the first place? Of course not. If there are designated smoking areas, we will steer clear and enjoy ourselves elsewhere. I think the ship is big enough for everyone to be happy if we are all aware of the rules and willing to follow them.
