beck5585 Posted July 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2014 Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has ever gotten their hair cut or styled on board before. I am going in the breakaway for my honeymoon and I usually have med-short hair and I'm growing it out for my wedding. I was thinking of having it cut back to my normal length once on the cruise. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
khaide612 Posted July 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2014 I would wait...but that's just me. Pedicure - sure. Massage - absolutely. Facial - why not? But a haircut? That scares me.
Linday Posted July 11, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2014 I had mine cut on the Pearl 4 years ago and it was a great cut - comparable to the ones I get at Toni & Guy. I had several inches cut off and styled into a bob so it wasn't just a trim. A friend has had her hair cut a couple of times on NCL cruises and was happy each time. My only complaint was him trying to sell me products. A $50 vitamin for my hair????
cruise4kicks Posted July 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 11, 2014 I've had two great haircuts on NCL, and one superb color. One on the Sun, and the other on the Getaway. Cost about as much as getting it done locally.

I am always afraid the poor kid will be in trouble if I don't buy something !! I have heard on many occasions that they are very good at cutting hair. I am always afraid the poor kid will be in trouble if I don't buy something !!I have heard on many occasions that they are very good at cutting hair. It was the same way after a facial in the spa. The facial was beyond fantastic...so relaxing, almost hypnotic but all that good feeling left when she kept trying to sell me $100's of worth of products after. It seriously ruined the experience and I won't do another.

skiwee Posted July 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted July 12, 2014 When you go to the spa services on NCL they give you a paper to fill out. A form asking different things like health issues and so on. In one place I think they ask about what you want to accomplish or something. I wrote in there that I did NOT want to be bothered by ANY sales pitch and it worked. I've had many spa treatments on cruises and always wrote that in and never get the horrible sales pitch at the end. cruise4kicks Posted July 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2014 Just an FYI... You don't fill out the paper for salon services, just for spa services. Neither time I had my hair done did the stylist suggest, much less push, any product. If you go on the Getaway, make sure you ask for Larry. ;)

It's just for spa services like massages, facials, wraps and so on. For salon things just tell the person at the front reception what you are there for and you do not want to get any sales pitches. That works well too and I've done that also. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Love my butler Posted July 13, 2014 #13 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I just got a name tag that says "No Soliciting Please". Wear it everyday I am on a cruise.

Yes - I actually passed on massage that was being paid for by the casino. The quality level is fair. The damn sales pitch sucks. And, if you tell in advance, I wonder if the massage will be even worse.
garycarla Posted July 13, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 13, 2014 As to getting you wedding haircut onboard... let me ask this. Would you be okay just stopping at any salon driving down the street in Miami before you board? I sure would go somewhere that I totally was comfortable with. Not saying anything bad with those on the ship, just saying.

Not saying anything bad with those on the ship, just saying. That's not a bad idea but we are getting married on sat January 17 and we leave nyc Sunday January 18. With breakfast with the family and all those things Sunday I think will be to busy. I prefer my hair in a bob type cut, I am just growing it out for an updo. Even if I don't get it cut it might be easier on a hot vacation with long hair to just pull it all back :) I just wasn't sure how good the cruise salons were, for hair cutting. I've heard the spa services are always great.
Rare mitsugirly Posted July 13, 2014 #17 Share Posted July 13, 2014 While you didn't say if you were male or female...I'll just give you my husbands experience. He was growing the top of his hair out for months and got a hair cut. I absolutely HATED it and it just did not fit him or his face. So, he went back to trying to grow it out again. On our Getaway cruise, I had insisted that he get his hair cut for this cruise because I just couldn't stand it anymore and he wasn't able to do it prior to the cruise. So, he went to the spa while we were on the Getaway and had a haircut. I have to say that it looked pretty good compared to the last time he got it cut and the guy took a lot of time with him with conditioning and products and such. I believe it cost him $35 and he left a $10 tip. So he was pretty pleased with their service. :)
garycarla Posted July 13, 2014 #18 Share Posted July 13, 2014 I saw wedding, haircut, cruise and did not read it correct. To cut your hair back AFTER the wedding, I think they would be fine on the ship. Congrats and enjoy.
Tiggertastic Posted July 13, 2014 #19 Share Posted July 13, 2014 Just be clear what you want, even take a photo of how you like it. They tried to do something completely different than what I wanted and I got annoyed with the guy in the end so he did what I asked.

I used to use the spa services quite a bit, but just got fed up of being sold a load of stuff that I didn't want, need, or would use. I was continually amazed at how I'd managed to live my life without these almost 'vital' products to my existence, often at a cost of hundreds of dollars. That said I did get a haircut on a ship once and it was pretty good. The best haircut though I can relate to is the one in the Virgin Upper a Class lounge at Heathrow on my way to a cruise - it's complimentary
tvlgrl62 Posted February 19, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 19, 2015 Hi Beck5585, I had the same question, getting married the night before the cruise leaves. We are going on the Getaway. Can you tell me if you got your haircut on the ship? If so how did it come out?
beck5585 Posted February 20, 2015 Author #22 Share Posted February 20, 2015 I did get my hair cut on the breakaway this past jan, and the hair cut was great! I went from long hair to a medium bob. Also I'm a hairdresser so I am very picky when I get my hair cut and the cut was really great. I also talked to the hairdresser about the hiring process and she told me it was very hard to get hired. That you really needed to know every kind of cut and style and you really need to know your stuff. I hope that helps! Congrats on your upcoming wedding and enjoy your honeymoon! NOLAgirl84 Posted July 17, 2018 #23 Share Posted July 17, 2018 We are going on the sky soon, does anyone know if Tiyana is still a hairdresser on this ship, she's excellent, but I know the crew change's often. Thanks!
Mike_DeA Posted July 17, 2018 #24 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Male here. Got my hair cut on the Escape last month. It was the best haircut I've ever got. Port day special, and was only $25+tip.
