MSC divina boarding problems

Love Captain Scala!! He had dinner in LeMuse one night and went to each table introducing himself and thanking everyone for sailing with MSC. Of course everyone had to have their picture taken with him, and he accommodated all of us who were in the restaurant that night. Can't wait to see him again in a few weeks!!!

Mike, on both the Dec., 2013 and March 2014 sailings we had Captain Francesco Veniero. He was very friendly also. Sounds like it would be a delight to meet Captain Scala.

Beautiful lady and handsome Captain!! Thanks for sharing

Thank You Cruiser!!!! Hard to believe he's only 48 years old.

Captain Pierpaolo Scala (Age: 46)

An 18-year veteran officer with Carnival Cruise Lines, Captain Scala, like many great mariners, hails from Sicily. Prior to joining Carnival, he piloted massive oil tankers around the globe for Chevron. In 2011, after 2 months of familiarization trainings on MSC Cruises ships he took the command of MSC Opera. He has a huge experience in podded propulsion systems.

Captain Scala is the most personable Captain we have come across - met him many times around the ship, and many photo ops - spoke to each one of us individually at the Top Sail Lounge, yes also came to Le Muse and best of all, invited us to dine with him in Eately.....the best!!!!!

The ship and staff have been wonderful! The ship is gorgeous. I am enjoying my time there, however most conversations on board discuss what happened during boarding. At the CC meet and greet the captain came and spoke to us. They are looking at ways to compensate passengers. We will see what happens.

Glad you got to have an organized CC meet and greet. On the Rio to Miami sailing, we had to make arrangements informally as the head office in Naples wouldn't allow a note in the Daily Program or otherwise since it wasn't pre-approved.

We got off the Divina yesterday and although the gas leak wasn't MSC's fault the VERY slow disembarking of the ship prior to the leak was of their making.

Suitcases for people disembarking at 11am were at the terminal on conveyor belts at 8am. But suitcases for priority disembarking didn't appear until an hour after their allotted time. And by then there was a humongous queue of Brazilian families trying to get through US immigration.

Coupled with a taxi driver who decided to try and let us off at the side of the freeway by Miami airport after driving around getting lost looking for the Tri-Rail stop (and the meter up to $50 in the process) this made for a very poor end to a great holiday.

Still - no one died. Everyone got on or off the ship and we (just) made our flights. As did our luggage.

Glad you made it. We had self-assist disembarkation scheduled for 7:15 am. Finally got off the ship around 8:30 am. Our son overheard some of the crew discussing what sounded like a situation where a crew member didn't show up on time when the crew was scheduled to clear immigration. Wonder if that contributed to the delays.

Was nice to meet you onboard!

You too!

I think about 25% of the ship opted for self disembark prior to 8am for some bizarre reason. More importantly I cannot understand why so many were allowed it without some proof of necessity. We only managed yellow at 8.15am. We were off for 7.45am as we got caught up in the exit scrum whilst trying to drop off our questionnaire and signed bill. As we got carried along towards the exit we decided to just leave rather than go back to the casino and do it all again. We didn't even get a final breakfast. :-/

As I said our luggage was due at 8.15 and actually came off the conveyor at 9.20. It was a slow, frustrating and expensive day full of delays and lack of co-operation. The only plus was our PBI-ORD flight crew who did everything humanely possible for us to make our MCR connection in a record 20 minutes despite being over an hour late. God bless them because without their help and foresight neither us nor our suitcases would have made the flight back to Manchester.

Nothing changes then it seems! i recall Andre the cruise director last November telling us that the ships printer would not print out six colour posters for him without approval from Naples .... Even he could not understand it.

This is cost control, very important in todays higly competitive market. Imagine all ships printing out six colour posters all the time :D Saving a cent here and there means a lot of money :)

Hello all,

They are saying that there was an gas leak in the terminal, so they pushed everyone to the other terminal in Miami so then waited there for a half hour until they moved us back to the outside of the normal terminal, after waiting outside for another half hour, they started letting us in the terminal. We are currently in the terminal and checked in but people are still getting off the ship at 2:30pm! Also the terminal is at capacity so they are making people stand outside. The worst part of this whole thing was there was no information at all given, and I feel MSC lost customers before they even got on board. Also, we needed a wheelchair for boarding and because MSC was of no help, we had to find one ourselves.

This is MSC fault due to the horrible way they are dealing with the situation there has been absolutely no communication from the ship. Now there are some people with medical problems so paramedics are now here.

That's probably the reason why no pillow chocolates anymore. Just as well, eating chocolate at night can give you nightmares :D

(Yeah, I know you still get them in the Yacht Club! I'm going to be very good and save them all for the flight home)

You certainly had me going for a minute.

Although there is still that unanswered question.......What does happen to the left-behinders???

I'm thinking maybe I'll be very generous and share them among the air stewards:p

Yes,,,then at least your mind will be at ease knowing where yours ended up.

On our last sailing we had ordered a bottle of champagne and strawberries for our suite. There were way to many strawberries and I didn't want them to go to waste, so we brought them up to the One Bar and shared them with the crew,,

Very entertaining thread from the Celebrity board:D Celebrity have taken away the bedtime chocolate....and no, the chocolates are not recycled, not allowed according to the law. Here is the response from Royal Caribbean CEO Goldstein when RCCL removed the chocolate. Interesting facts:

Removal of Chocolates from the Pillows at Night

We provided small chocolates on the pillow for many, many years and it was indeed a nice touch at the end of another enjoyable day of cruising. We decided to eliminate the chocolates outside of our suites for two reasons. One is our strong desire to eliminate waste where possible. According to our Hotel Operations and Supply Chain groups, on an annual basis we have been throwing away approximately 35,000 pounds (17.5 tons!) of chocolate covered by 780,000 square feet of foil. Many (but probably not all) readers are aware that public health rules require us to dispose of all such unused chocolates notwithstanding that they are foil wrapped. In our opinion, throwing away such a volume of chocolate and foil is not environmentally sustainable behavior. Second, we want to re-purpose the investment in these chocolates into the continued evolution of the onboard experience. We did not make this decision lightly. It was hard to say good-bye to the chocolates and we know some of our guests read into this a decline in our product quality. But we believe this is the right decision to make.

Well if you were there, you would have a different feeling but from what I experienced, there was no answer from anybody, ship or port authority. I am not saying that you can't have your own opinion, but I was there and you were not.
