HAHA! That's true! We wanted to get married in the church - husband Catholic; me Anglican. Catholic : not without hoops to jump through as I was married before. Anglican: clergy said 'that's okay, we allow mistakes'. Now that's a standard line in our house when someone messes up!:)

Langoustine:Not exactly, although that's a funny line. The church was organized after the American Revolution, and it operates within the Anglican Communion as a church separate from the Church of England, whose clergy are required to swear allegiance to the British monarch as Supreme Governor of the Church of England, something that would have been awkward after the revolution.

Okay, for fun's sake lets say that before prohibition they were Ecopalian's. Afterwards they were Episcopalians!!:D

Hey Catholics allow mistakes . It just costs you more than Michael Corleone paid for Immobilaire in Godfather 3 to fix them. :)

We once ran into a similar situation (on a 7 day RCI cruise) many years ago and cancelled the cruise for multiple reasons. We actually went on that same ship the following cruise and heard from a few crew members that the "Christian" cruise had been a disaster for both crew and many passengers. The problem is that, if it is a large group, they often come aboard with all their own entertainers. The ship then has to allot them lots of private time in the various show rooms for their group entertainment schedule. This means that other non-group folks can find themselves left out of multiple venues throughout the cruise.

So we looked at the web site of the Christian group that is on this particular cruise and we see they are bringing their own entertainers. In fact, this is part of what they have on their web site:

"We will be bringing a truly outstanding group of artists along with us to lead you in worship and speakers to bring inspiration and encouragement while we all create a week full of unforgettable moments you won’t find anywhere else.

"With the intimate performances, meet and greet opportunities, morning devotions, interactions with the artists and speakers we expect we will all leave having shared laughs and tears and many wonderful memories we will never forget."

We try to avoid any cruise with this kind of group because we do not want to have our own options limited by a private group.

Hank

P.S. We cross posted this on the appropriate Roll Call since we think its relevant to those going on the cruise

Hi

I did prank anyone I want to take a cruise in January or Feburary I looked at and loved it. until I saw the cruise it was chartered. I was simplly warning people on this cruise. But you can be assured it will be my last time posting a warning. I have heard from cruise crew that many of these cruises have lots of bottles of booze in thier state room. I have also read many times posts on these boards the Christian cruises do not have booze or gambling on those ships and the pax pay a much higher price because of it. So I will not take a chance on this cruise, I like a glass of wine with dinner and then a drinks at happy hours.. Just one question do you have the beverage package on this ship? A large grouo can take over a ship. I am a Christian

But Mary..The New Amsterdam on Jan 11 IS NOT a Charter & it's not considered a Christian Cruise! It is not even listed in Cruise Critic as a Charter.. It is only listed as a group on a regularly scheduled cruise! Now how many are there no one knows & doubt that HAL would give anyone figures..The Bars & Casino will not be closed if it's not a charter.. Don't understand why do you keep insisting it's a charter?

Please Look at the Jul 01 Cruise Critic list which clearly states it's a group, not a charter!

CJCruzer updated the Charter & Group list Aug 01..This is the new URL"

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2082195&highlight=charters+%26+groups

The Jan 11 sailing of the New Amsterdam is still listed as a regular cruise with the Christian Group aboard but it is not a charter..

The Bars & Casino will still be open unless it's a charter..

We've been on cruises that had groups and have never had a problem. I suppose if the group numbered in the hundreds it might mess with the schedule or the public rooms....

I've seen lots of people post on roll calls of cruisers who've just returned to ask about entertainers, CDs, etc.

I have posted on roll calls of cruises I have not been; mostly it is photos I took of their ship leaving or arriving where I am.

Do the passengers from the group bang on your cabin door with pamphlets that they want you to read?

Oh, I think HAL would put a quick stop to that!

On our charters they make a point that no solicitations for anything will be permitted.

Hi

again I am sorry I used the word charter. I did not mean to use that word. It was a mistake when I posted my appolgy. I was looking to book a cruise in the first month of 2015. I MADE A MISTAKE IT NOT A CHARTER> its a group I refuse to talk about this any more. Can we just drop it. It will never happen again.

Mary

Rather than speculate I suggest you contact your travel agent or HAL customer service and pose the question directly.

In most cases where a group sets up a cruise that involves utilizing public rooms HAL will not do anything that will disrupt the usual on board activities, but if there's a concern you can get much better information by going to your primary contact.

One other matter...roll call participation. There is a complete discussion of Roll Call participation in our community guidelines. Please review those guidelines and, if there is a question that is not answered there please contact the Community Manager at community@cruisecritic.com or help@cruisecritic.com.
