Travel luv Posted August 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Is there a way to find out if the Sihouette docks at the new port or tender to the old port in Mykonos, Greece? Also, how much time should I factor in for pickup for an excursion if we are set up to tender? Thanks
Sloop-JohnB Posted August 13, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2014 (edited) There are websites that list this info (sorry cannot remember all their names), but you can find the info either by GOOGLING specifically for the Port of Mykonos and your date of arrival... Or just by typing in - Mykonos Port Celebrity Silhouette - Hope this helps, Cheers! Edited August 13, 2014 by Sloop-JohnB
figs4me Posted August 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2014 According to the Celebrity Europe Shore Excursions guide, for the September 12 itinerary, we will be tendered in Mykonos. I don't know how long to plan for getting to shore, but plan on trying to get our spaces booked the night before. The brochure can be downloaded from the Celebrity website. DebbieMacG Posted August 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2014 Figs4me You can't book tender places the night before. Unless you have priority tender tickets (gained from high captains club status etc) you will have to queue for them in the morning at the designated times :)
Wine-O Posted August 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2014 We were on Reflection and scheduled to tender on Mykonos, but they have one pier, and the first ship scheduled to arrive will most likely be assigned to that pier to dock vice tender. Go to a website to find out what ships are in port with yours and figure out the times of arrival. The early bird gets the pier. Then you can plan accordingly. If you have a tour scheduled, check with your tour guide. They have a way of figuring out whether you will be tendering or docking. Then make final arrangements. If you are docking, plan on 1/2 hour after arrival to disembark.
Rare steamboats Posted August 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2014 With the Splendour of the Seas we were supposed to tender but then got the information onboard (2 days prior to the shore stop) that we will dock at the new port. So I assume it´s sort of a last minute decision. steamboats
4774Papa Posted August 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2014 We have been to Mykonos twice. First time on NCL Gem, which we tendered. The tender boats took us right to the downtown port, it was very convenient. Second time, on Celebrity Infinity, which we docked about a mile from the town. Depending on what you do in Mykonos, the tendering is in some ways better than docking. You will be in the downtown area without having to wait for the shuttle or walk. We took an X tour to Delos on the second trip and I highly recommend it if you love history.
Cruising89143 Posted August 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 13, 2014 In June we were the first ship to arrive but we tendered. I was glad. The tenders are local and a good size. Tendering was quick and easy. As mentioned above they drop you off in town. No shuttle needed.
drarill Posted August 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 13, 2014 We also tendered in Mykonos a couple of weeks ago and didn't have any problems. We looked at the docked Disney cruise so far away from the town and agreed that tendering was a better option. ;)
FrequentFlyKid Posted August 14, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Just returned from Europe yesterday and a sailing on the Silhouette last week. We tendered in Mykonos and it was quick and efficient. (Unlike the next day in Corfu which was a disaster). Quick tip: don't wait for a cab to try and go to Paradise Beach of Elia Beach. Either pay for the excursion or rent a small car, especially if there is more than two of you. We rented a Smart for 90 Euro and it was awesome. Loved exploring the island on our own. 4774Papa Posted August 14, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2014 We never go to the beach on cruises, we live on an island with a beach in South Georgia. We loved our ship's excursion on Corfu. We went to the Palestroka Monastery and the north part of the island.
Travel luv Posted August 14, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Ok, looks like we will be tendering. Thanks for all the replies. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
k9x8 Posted August 14, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 14, 2014 That's the problem with Mykonos; you likely want know until you get there. Two years ago, we booked the ship's tour to Delos, because we had no tendering priority. It was a good excursion, but much too short. Had we known we'd be docking, we could have walked off and caught the earliest ferry to Delos and had more time.
mickey89 Posted August 14, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2014 Although not foolproof, it is a good bet that if you are the only ship at Mykonos, you will dock. You can check by visiting http://www.cruisett.com
