Rare jimbo5544 Posted September 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2014 It has been broadcast now in several places that a cruiser from Mississippi spent 270 straight days (33 consecutive voyages s Carnival record) on the Elation. All I can say is WOW. Diamond in a voyage.....
dulcimergirl Posted September 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I would absolutely love to do that. Sadly, it will never happen, unless they give out 33 free cruises... lol
Dgshooter Posted September 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Probably cheaper than an all inclusive retirement village.
Ontario_Cruiser Posted September 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Apparently they have a thing for Cozumel...
Titan_Cruiser Posted September 4, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I saw this but I am confused. I believe the Elation has been doing 5 day cruises out of NOLA for over a year now. 33 x 5 is only 165 days??? For it to be 270 total days it would have to be 8+ days per cruise. ryansmith18 Posted September 4, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Woah, I live 15 minutes from this guy. Some details here: http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/11519.html. That article is using the same math that Titan Cruiser already pointed out, so some of the details are obviously a bit off.
JLee1973 Posted September 4, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2014 There is a picture of him with the crew which says 270 straight days. Rumor is his wife had passed away on a cruise and it was his way of grieving abd dealing with her passing. Dixie24 Posted September 4, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Apparently it was 33 B2B's so 66 total cruises.
just4steven Posted September 4, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Probably cheaper than an all inclusive retirement village. Good point, I wonder if they switched their mailing address during this journey
Ontario_Cruiser Posted September 4, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Apparently it was 33 B2B's so 66 total cruises. That still can't be it. The article says that the cruises started in April 2014. There has not even been 270 days since then. The 165 days seems more probable - which is still quite a run. I would guess that the gentleman has spent overall 270 days at sea, but some of those were before his wife passed.
mzloolue Posted September 4, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2014 That is a lot of days on Elation. I have been on Elation for 30 days. Weird to think about.
NCTribeFan Posted September 4, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I'd have no problem living on a ship. I realized that about half-way into my 14-night HAL Hawaii cruise. After 4 sea days, I'd settled into a rhythm and could've kept on forever. Well, except for the fact that I couldn't actually afford to do that! :o I have 38 days on Fantasy, 5 on Elation, and 10 on Fascination. So, almost exactly 1/2 of my 110 days on Carnival have been on Fantasy-class ships. But, yes, their math is off just a bit.
Rare jimbo5544 Posted September 4, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Apparently it was 33 B2B's so 66 total cruises. Actually I think the math might still be off a bit (but they should know), but if it is B2B then it makes a whole bunch more sense.
Rare Tapi Posted September 4, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) If I had that much time (and I'm assuming money), I would've taken a 100 day cruise around the world on the Queen Mary 2, and still had time left over for a few more bucket list cruises! Cozumel over and over and over?? No thanks! Edited September 4, 2014 by Tapi
cruizinisthebest Posted September 4, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) Either way, I still think it's cool. I saw it on FB. It was his story and he did it HIS way :). I'm quite sure he mostly chose to stay on the ship. Wonder if he'll do it again. Edited September 4, 2014 by cruizinisthebest
evandbob Posted September 4, 2014 #17 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I'm with Tapi, I'd certainly go with a classier ship for that long a duration.
My6Dogs Posted September 4, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Okay kids.... here is your homework for the day!!! Lets say I left on the 1st available cruise in November 2014 on the Elation, cheapest ocean view cabin available. How much would it cost me to spend 6 months at sea? And GO!!! :) Mike

EZ4 Posted September 4, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 4, 2014 A lady in a FB group that I'm in was on the ship with him. Evidently Elation is the only ship that he cruises on and he lives only an hour from the port. Some days he would get off the ship and go home to check on things and pick up his mail. He was booking B2Bs on board as he went along. I guess he finally had enough.
EZ4 Posted September 4, 2014 #21 Share Posted September 4, 2014 Maybe the article means that he's spent a TOTAL of 270 days on Elation, but not necessarily all on this trip.
Lovefuninthesun Posted September 4, 2014 #22 Share Posted September 4, 2014 I could be happy for 270 days on Elation! My dream is that permanent home cruise ship, The World. It was docked next to us last time we were in Nassau -- wanted to sneak onboard.:p
Rok4u2 Posted September 4, 2014 #23 Share Posted September 4, 2014 the 270 days were his TOTAL days on Carnival cruise ships with a total of 33 cruises. This was NOT his B2B cruises. He boarded on April 28th and got off the Elation on August 28th.
Rare Tapi Posted September 4, 2014 #24 Share Posted September 4, 2014 If my calculations are correct, 270 days on the Elation doing the 5/5/4 day rotation equals 59 sailings. Yup, I'm bored. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
