Freedom of Seas "suites come first?????"

Recommended Posts

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. We were told many years ago that Revenue from purchases/casino was much more important than cabin sales. I stand corrected!

They may have meant that they make more margin (profit) from onboard purchases/casino, then on cabins.

^ this. Revenue is meaningless without expense. Onboard revenue is far more profitable because it is generated at significantly less cost. It takes a lot of money to operate the ship and produce the cruise experience, hence the profit margin on cabin sales is much lower.

If you were in the CL it was probably Rahul. But Berty does fill in when Rahul is on vacation. As much as us frequent cruisers may not like it suites do come first. They pay for the concierge service in their fare. C&A members get the service as a benefit. I have sailed on the Freedom seventeen times and Berty has never been anything but friendly, courteous and helpful. I find it hard to believe that Berty would be rude to any passenger, if it came across that way it was unintentional I'm sure.

No way it could have been Rahul, he is AMAZING :D We miss seeing him since we have been sailing on the Independence.

My husband and I have had many conversations regarding this. We feel that the levels should be determined by spending on the ship along with cabin fees. I have read many post from passengers who brag about booking interior cabins and having zero sea pass bills (some even have credit due to on board credits!) and yet they are diamond or diamond plus. I don't think someone who has cruised 25 times in a $400 (or less) interior cabin and spends little or nothing on the ship should have the benefits that a suite guest spending $20,000 for a week should have.

We are diamond soon to be diamond plus, while we are by no means big spenders...we book mid priced cabins, gamble at the casino, buy the wine and soda packages, book excursions through the cruiseline , buy an occasional piece of jewelry on the ship, spend way too much  at the Coach stores on the ships...etc but we realize the reason the cabins are so reasonable is because the added revenue from the guests in onboard spending.

Not that the other areas don't help, and not that they aren't trying to get them to help even more, but I know I sure wouldn't be booking GS's if it weren't for the extras.

Without the CL and other perks, RCL would have a tough time getting folks to pay the price difference between JS and GS solely on square footage.

That was my point. It seems obvious the majority of revenue would come from cabin sales. The profit is made on the $10 drinks and the casino.

Its more like 72/73% income is from cabin sales, but you are correct the majority of rci's income is from cabin sales

Yes, you are closer to the truth. From the 2013 Annual Report. My 60/40 ratio was from a 2013 quarterly report.

The following table presents operating results as a percentage of total revenues for the last three years:

Year Ended December 31, 2013 2012 2011

Passenger ticket revenues 71.9% 72.8% 73.3%

Onboard and other revenues 28.1 27.2 26.7

Total revenues 100.0% 100.0% 100.0%

This from their annual reports. It is revenue that they report, not earnings or profits. An accountant can possibly explain why earnings/profits are not reported for these two categories.

^ If you pull up those reports again, you'll notice that the expense section immediately follows the revenue summaries. So even though the word "profit" may not appear in the financial summaries, you can fairly ballpark it by doing the math.

Gwen, as far as I know he is staying with the ship........but that was last month. Who knows what will happen in the future.

Just off the Explorer yesterday and I agree Denzel is one of the best. We are going back on the Explorer in January and asked Denzel if we would see him then. Said he is getting off on January 18th but it might be extended.

He is amazing and professional. Hope he will be on our FR 2-22-2015 cruise. He worked really hard for us last January to get a preferred time, same waiter and table for a relatively large party for MTD. and he has done many services for us. He has been our concierge in the CL and DL many times since 2010.

Looking forward to Denzel being our Concierge on EX for our 12-4-2014 cruise. Have heard great things from you and other CC posters. Edited by SherriZ366

Suite Guests get priority when it comes to the assistance of the Concierge.

We just returned from a 9 night cruise on Explorer and I can tell you that Denzil Fernandes the Concierge was absolutely the best and treated everyone in his lounge equally.

Absolutely agree. We also just returned from explorer 25th. Denzil was fantastic

If suite guests get a gold seapass card, what color do diamond and pinnacle get? If not different colored seapasses, how do the Concierge know who is who?

The SeaPass card has the C&A level printed at the bottom. Also, the Concierge can look up anyone's C&A level on the computer.

Both Pinnacle and Suites have gold colored cards.

The Concierge knows your face (from boarding photo) before you ever walk into the lounge. When the concierge clicks on your name your photo shows up. Good concierges do a lot of "homework" and know who "their people" are. Many concierges have already sent out an email to their suite guests.

D+ and below all have the same blue cards unless you are in a Junior Suite (grey) or a full suite (gold).

The concierges also have a list of Pinnacles through Diamonds ranked by number of points.

If anyone EVER thinks that I even thought about doing such a despicable thing, they have my authority to throw my Stupid Ass overboard., forgetting anything about Saving The Waves :D:eek:

Over the past year I have witnessed horrifying behavior of Pinnacle guests in particular asking to see people's Seapass cards in the CL to confirm their eligibility.

In our first Grand Suite on Adventure of the Seas next weekend if anyone except the Concierge are a ships officer/employee ask to see my Seapass card they will be told to mind their own business as politely as my temper will allow me.

Those eligible to use the Diamond Lounge and Concierge Lounge will have their SeaPass programmed to open the door.

D+ and PC Members can use both lounges while some suite guests can only use the Concierge Lounge unless they are a Diamond or above C&A Member.

Excellent!!!!!:):)

We totally agree with what this statement. As Pinnacle Club members we have told both friends and crew that if we were ever to act in a negative or demanding way then we want someone to kick us in the a$$.

Actually, our favorite cruisers are the first time cruisers because they bring awe and wonderment to cruising and remind us why we continue to cruise.
