MaiTaiMary Posted October 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2014 What is the "sail away party"? I've been on two Carnival cruises and I don't remember any kind of party when we sailed off. Do they have it on every cruise? We're going on a 7-day Miracle cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Thanks. :D
funinthesun1964 Posted October 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Oh yes, they will have it in the main Lido area. They will have the DJ playing all those songs for the dances...Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, etc.
golfadj Posted October 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2014 IMHO gotten rather lame.
sanmarcosman Posted October 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2014 IMHO gotten rather lame. How so, do you usually participate in the sail away dancing on each cruise you take? If you dance, would you like different music to dance to?
skrufy Posted October 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Many cruisers would like to dump the dj and bring back the Carib .bands on the Carib. Cruises.
mzlinda Posted October 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Yes I agree that the sail away party is kind of lame with a DJ. i miss the old days with a live band. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ATHENA3 Posted October 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 7, 2014 The good sail away deck parties of the past fell to the cutbacks. That Carnival says its a brilliant move.:mad:
islandatsea Posted October 7, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Many cruisers would like to dump the dj and bring back the Carib .bands on the Carib. Cruises. Very true, I miss the steel drum bands during my May cruise on the Paradise. However, my 2 cruises on Princess this year had a steel drummer live on the Lido deck plus another live band playing there at various times during those cruises. The live bands does add to the party atmosphere!
ready2cruzagain Posted October 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Carnival use to have great sail away parties. Our last several cruises there were so called sail away parties but in reality it was only a dj playing on the lido deck with a couple of the entertainment staff doing line dancing. There use to be giveaways, drawing for prizes, Caribbean band. I agree with Golfadj, they are definitely lame anymore.
MaiTaiMary Posted October 12, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted October 12, 2014 So this is out on the deck by the pool when the ship pulls away from port? Just not sure how I could've missed this in the past.

Just not sure how I could've missed this in the past. You probably didn't miss it, but just didn't connect the dots that it was considered a party and not just music playing by the pool. golfadj Posted October 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2014 How so, do you usually participate in the sail away dancing on each cruise you take? If you dance, would you like different music to dance to? I would like live music and for them to make this fun again. These days usually at roll call meet and greet and than back to our cabin to get ready for dinner. Before would go over to sailaway party after roll call. TheCriuseDirector Posted October 12, 2014 #15 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I always enjoyed the sail away parties, but they are cliche and cheesy, i guess that's my type of cruise.
