MPW no longer sailing on Azura A517

Just had a letter from my agent telling me that Marco Pierre White will no longer be able to sail on A517. It's not a major issue for us but I'm sure some folk will be disappointed.

After eating at his restaurant on the Oceana last April this may be a blessing. It was awful.

To give the other side of the coin. We were on Arcadia when he joined it in April/May this year.

We preferred the food in Ocean Grill to East.

First time we ate in OG he was on board. Took time to talk to everyone..I was not too keen on him before I met him, but he was a thoroughly nice chap. 2nd time we ate in OG he was not on board, but food was just as good.

I doubt very much if he does any of the actual cooking while on board..just oversees.

If it is the Italian restaurant in Cafe Jardin you are referring to, I have to disagree. Whenever I have eaten there I have been very happy with the quality of the food. Well worth the very small surcharge

We'd eaten there a few times on a previous cruise and it was better then. ( 2010). Last April it really was terrible. Perhaps we just picked a bad night......

Not MPW but I went on the maiden voyage for Ocean Village (had a part ownership in a cruise travel agency at the time and got an excellent deal) some years ago and James Martin had just signed up his restaurant on there. He was onboard for that week and actually did a lot of the cooking himself and afterwards came out and spoke to everyone. Food really was excellent and before I was never too keen on him, but he was very pleasant.

Played in the casino with him a couple of nights. From memory cover charge initially was only £5 or £10 and I joked about him getting a cut and he laughed and said he wouldn't earn much of that was the case. A few years before that when I was on the Aurora I think he was guest chef and on with his parents for the trip.

We always say that, though we've tried all speciality restaurants on IOS, Celebrity Silhouette and P&O's Oceana nothing will beat our first proper cruise on the OV2 when we ate at James Martin's Bistro. Wonderful.

I liked Cafe Jardin how it used to be but we were bitterly disappointed when on our last trip on Oceana it had MPW's input. The whole ambiance, food, experience was so disappointing that I wouldn't use it again.

However, in the White Room on Ventura we had marvellous food and the whole experience was much better and as you would expect from Michelin Chefs.

Arcadian Rhodes was always my favourite though.
