He complained about noise level in his cabin...Under the kids clubs evidently...got a group of ajoining cabins to all complain as a group...like villages with pitch forks me thinks...managed to get $500 OBC for their trouble anyone else got a fool proof plan to get OBC? falkcor Posted November 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2014 book early saver. though frankly i'm not sure if that's offered on the australia cruises as i haven't looked into them. you'd get OBC for every qualified price drop, etc. as for villagers with pitchfork type showings at guest services... i surely hope you wouldn't plan this in advance or try to invoke it for other than legitimate reasons. you're on your own there as i would not even hypothesize how you may create enough of a disturbance to warrant a significant obc. go enjoy your cruise
TerReuv Posted November 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I'm sorry, but I think this is just horrible! When you book a room yourself, you should pay attention to where your room is. It is no one's fault but your own if you are under the kids club or the lido pool or the nightclub, etc. Getting a group of cabins to get together to mob GS for an undeserved credit seems a bit threatening and I would have applauded if they had escorted the group from the ship instead of giving into their demands. Honestly, I am not sure I totally believe this $500 OBC for a whole group of cabins because they are under the kids clubs. And I think it is in very bad taste to start a thread asking if anyone else had a "foolproof" plan to scam some OBC from Carnival.
snc_cam Posted November 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 6, 2014 There are always people asking for a hand-out because that is (unfortunately) how some people think. They feel they are "owed" something. Hmmm, this sounds like a common theme with everyday life.
SkyMaster Posted November 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 6, 2014 The best plan for getting an O.B.C., is to buy 100 shares of Carnival Stock. I get a NICE O.B.C. on EVERY cruise, and I don't have to act like an @ss to get it! ;) "SKY"

A little research prior to booking, such as checking the deck plans to see what is above, below, across from and beside the cabin you're considering is very beneficial in choosing your cabin. Now, if the cabins in question for this cruise were chosen by a TA or someone other than the passenger(s), then they should have lodged their complaints with that person, NOT Carnival. springs741 Posted November 6, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I am sorry your friend did not like the location of their stateroom. However, I fall into the doubters category regarding the $500 OBC. Carnival will try to make people happy but not in those kinds of amounts. Could one of you had a typo and the OBC been $50? I might believe that amount.

I might believe that amount. I might also believe that, but it all still sounds very suspect. We will have to wait to see if the OP comes back and responds. Of course, we may have to wait a bit since they are in Australia (and it is 4 AM).

Amyy527 Posted November 6, 2014 #14 Share Posted November 6, 2014 I work in Guest Relations (not for Carnival, obviously) but it sounds like someone made a very nice "one-time exception" for your friend.. But I'm sure Carnival keeps a record of this. They may be less likely to help you out next time if you have an actual concern. It's always better to be nice- I am always willing to help out people that are honest.

BJDownUnder Posted November 7, 2014 Author #16 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Thanks for the feedback, I was kind of interested to hear of any other stupid approaches to OBC I should say that my friend has a pathological "dodgy" approach to getting free upgrades, discounts etc.... Pour all the beer dregs into one glass, telling the bar his beer is warm and asking for a replacement etc etc…….I tend to think he went as far as he could with this to achieve the obc. He is enjoyable to watch but not a particularly nice human…he should be on a customer service watch list we had a situation on NCL a couple of years ago where the sewer smell on the suite balcony was so bad we could use the balcony….guest relations agreed and without us asking GS gave us $300 obc per guest…stuff happens

How noisy can a kids club be, especially at night?
serene56 Posted November 7, 2014 #20 Share Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) How very odd since this is one class ship that is awesome for sound proofing of the cabins. and being under a kids club? which closes at 10pm (and becomes the night owl program which is not loud after 10-- its quiet time and movies You can not even hear the music stand outside the disco-- Edited November 7, 2014 by serene56
sealgirl Posted November 7, 2014 #21 Share Posted November 7, 2014 We had a banging sound in our cabin every night for a 7 day cruise on the Freedom. It sounded like a cart rolling and banging into lockers in the housekeeping room. The first night we called someone and he heard it and went to fix it and it stopped for the night. The rest of the cruise it would start back up in the middle of the night, we would call, they would come and the noise will have magically stopped when they came to listen for it. We didn't get any OBC but we didn't go act ugly either. Don't you just hate how the people with the worst attitudes get their way? Badfinger Posted November 8, 2014 #22 Share Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Another example of somebody wanting something for nothing. And another example of why Carnival and their customers are the Walmart of cruising. Edited November 8, 2014 by Badfinger
