Rare kazu Posted November 20, 2014 #51 Share Posted November 20, 2014 Well, it's still light and I'm hoping she goes when it is light. She looks wonderful and so many of our cruise critic friends got off today. I wish I was getting back on ;)
0bnxshs Posted November 20, 2014 #52 Share Posted November 20, 2014 I remember reading that they do provide a function, but I don't remember for sure what. Maybe: just a guess: air for a gas turbine engine? They are not "decorative", I am pretty sure. Diamond Princess as well as Sapphare Princess also have them as does Coral's sister. They are decorative. See here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=36055758&postcount=4 I was told the same thing as this poster. See here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=36055758&postcount=4 I was told the same thing as this poster. I stand corrected! As I said, I thought I had read differently. What would be the purpose of a marine architect putting these things on the ship? They would add weight to the ship, provide wind resistance, decrease fuel economy. At least, I would think so. lka1012 Posted November 20, 2014 #54 Share Posted November 20, 2014 What would be the purpose of a marine architect putting these things on the ship? Remember, the fourth smokestack on the Titanic was purely for show, not use.
0bnxshs Posted November 20, 2014 #55 Share Posted November 20, 2014 I stand corrected! As I said, I thought I had read differently. What would be the purpose of a marine architect putting these things on the ship? They would add weight to the ship, provide wind resistance, decrease fuel economy. At least, I would think so. One of the crew I asked said something about a storage area for various sports equipment. Who knows? One of the posters in that thread I referenced mentions that it was a design touches to indicate the ships used gas turbine engines for power generation. I would imagine that you are right about the weight and profile issues though. I know some of the "shopping cart" class ships have had the skywalkers lounge in the back removed and that they may also have removed the nacelles from them during refits. lka1012 Posted November 20, 2014 #68 Share Posted November 20, 2014 Well, I have picked at the dried paint to peel off almost half of the paint on the doorframe. Do we have a new estimated time of departure, or should I keep picking at the peeling paint.

aliaschief Posted November 20, 2014 Author #72 Share Posted November 20, 2014 Well, most things in life are more important than a sail-away. Like having a nourishing dinner. This is almost a rerun of last year's Prisendam visit. Just say no and walk away from the computer.:)

Queen of DaNile Posted November 20, 2014 #74 Share Posted November 20, 2014 Sorry to be late to the party but would this help ease the pain? Didn't realize when we sailed out before the Prinsendam last January what an unusual occurrence it was. Hoping someday it might be us onboard....
