Who can't ever forget the Windjammer greeter on Explorer and her mantra "Washy Washy" as you entered??!!! She was hilarious and made us all washy washy (with Purell) before going into the Windjammer...she will not be forgotten :) I kinda missed her when she wasn't there...entering the WJ will never be the same :p

We were on Explorer over Thanksgiving but it was a guy in front of WJ. He is apparently carrying the torch. Every morning before breakfast he was in front with his jug of Purell and you would hear "Good morning everybody! Everybody say 'good morning.' Washy, washy. No washy, no foody" My nephew got his picture made with washy, washy guy.

That guys name is Nester. We met him many years ago on the Navigator. Saw him on the Explorer Repo this past Nov. What a nice surprise.

There was a guy on the NCL Epic who did the same thing! Washy Washy was my favourite crew member. Always with a smile and singing washy washy!

Maybe I will find another one on my next cruise.

There was a hand-sanitizer person in front of the WJ on our charter cruise on Liberty last week...not quite as upbeat as those described here previously, but we got the point. :)

After the first day I didn't see a person there holding a dispenser, but almost everyone used the standing Purell dispensers thereafter when they entered.

All to no avail, of course; at least 65 people -- including me -- have reported getting sore throats after the cruise. :(

I was on Liberty last week after your charter and there were lots of sick people on board. Most of us with an annoying cough that hit most of us around day 3. I am convinced I picked something up on the plane, but i'm sad I had to miss an entire night of fun bc of being sick.

ps I learned my lesson to always bring meds with me when I cruise. I paid $15 for benedryl on day 2 and then $18 for Nyquil on day 3. Good times. Glad I at least had Advil with me.

We had Washy Washy (Nestor) as our assistant waiter in the MDR on Explorer. We loved him! He really brought camaraderie to the crew.

We had Nestor as our asst waiter on the repo Nov 2014. When I told him I remembered him from our cruise a year earlier he was thrilled. He met us at the dining room door every night with a hug and to escort us to our table. It was also my birthday at the beginning of the cruise and he brought me a cake with a candle every night for the next week.

Hope to see Washy Washy on a future cruise - he is so much fun - always happy and always with a smile.

Finally, I didn't want to be the first. If I were asked to list the thing I disliked most about my last Explorer cruise, this was it!!! When I entered Windjammer, I wanted to wear a sign that said "I just stepped out of the adjoining restroom where I washed with soap and hot water. Now leave me alone!" :)

We always include both Benedryl and Nyquil (gel caps), along with Dayquil (gel caps). I got sick in the night with a terrible chest cold as we sailed to Dominica a few years ago. Of course the shops on the ship were closed and when we arrived, we thought it would be easy to get cold meds. Trying to find an honest-to-God pharmacy was hard enough, but we went to two before finding anything remotely resembling a cold medication and it still wasn't anything we recognized. We were thrilled to pay the outrageous prices on the ship for medicine we recognized. Never again. Our OTC meds now include Benedryl, Pepto-Bismol, Nyquil, Dayquil, along with the usual band-aids and neosporin, etc. Nothing worse than being sick and no medicine chest like you have at home. Purell helps, but being on a plane or in an airport, is a place REEKING with germs and sick people.

The hand sanitisation probably did a lot of good in stopping gastro infections but it can't stop what you breathe in from others with existing respiratory infections. Therefore wrong to say it was all to no avail. You may have even picked it up off the ship in a crowded situation.
