Hi

We have managed to get a window suite for the first part of our b2b cruise in July (cannot afford it for the second leg!!) and have a different cabin for the, second cruise.

Question is, does Princess assist you with the move on changeover day? Do you have to wait until your new cabin is ready and can you stay in your d cabin after the requested vacation time of 8 a m? Help from anyone who has done This would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Yes they will help you, but I always prefer to do it on my own. I visit the new cabin steward a day or two before just to let him know we're coming. He usually has the new cabin ready just as soon as the other passengers vacate.

Your old steward knows you are switching cabins, so 8:00 vacating will not pertain to you.

Thanks Pia, always knew we could rely on you for an answer. Would obviously want to move our personal things, but would like to think princess could put our closet hanging clothes on a movable hanging rail. We are moving decks so do not want to have to fight our way into lifts with large cases and disembarking passengers. We know what a free for all it is to get into a lift in turn-around day and we are quite elderly.

By the, way, we had hoped to meet you on our last June cruise to the Adriatic

but you had to cancel due to DH health problems. Hope all is well now and hope to sail with you in the future.

Many thanks

Daphne

When we changed cabins on B2B, our room steward told us to stay in old cabin till new one was ready. Well, the people in new cabin were not only, not vacating, but were still sleeping at 9:30am. We knew we had to leave the ship at 10:30 so it will clear customs , and was worried. We let the room steward clean our vacating room and we waiting on the balcony. Finally at 10:20,was told we were being moved. Came with a luggage rack to hang up our clothes

and the small items we put in suitcase(ant toiletries). We could have exited the ship and left the move to the cabins stewards to supervise but we didn't want to leave our stuff unsupervised.

Normally this doesn't happen and no problem getting your stuff moved early.

Just was very nervy people in that new room and that didn't care about rules.

The standard answer I have read in these forums is that they will load your hanging items on a cart for you. You can also have them switch drawers so you really don't have to unpack them. All you will have to do is pack the incidentals and your bath items.

Thanks for that. Hoped they would be able to move drawers as assume they are standard all over the ship. Really don't mind moving personal things and safe contents.

Yes, changing decks could be problematic, so rack is the way to go. I have though, in the past, gotten the rack and moved it all myself.

Sorry to have missed that cruise Daphne; had some ports we'd never seen. However, it is what it is, and health is still an issue.

We did a cabin switch on our B2B last September. Crew was extremely helpful. Our cabin steward in the first cabin told the steward in the second cabin we were coming and also arranged for help with the move. He told us to stay in out cabin until the 2nd cabin was ready. We told him we would stay out on the balcony so we would be out of his way if he wanted to start cleaning. At about 9 am 2 guys arrived at our cabin with a cart and loaded up all out belongins. The 2nd cabin was also ready at this time. We moved to the new cabin and were settled in by 9:30 am. It could not have been any easier.

Sounds like you are on the CB, so just possibly not. The window suites are newer than the other cabins and have different fixtures/fittings so the drawers will not match.

In the window suites I have stayed in the wood was also a lighter colour and did not match other cabins.

However, when I have moved cabins in the past on a B2B, I leave everything hung up, empty the drawers/shelves into my suitcase, stick a piece of paper with the new cabin number on it (just in case they forget where they are going!!) and leave everything in the wardrobe area ready.

Don't forget to check bedside drawers and the safe before you leave for any forgotton items.

You will get a letter, and possibly your new cruise card, the night before. The letter will state where to go and at what time to get your new card activated, picture taken etc. (I have had times the card was with the letter, and other times it was not). Unlike at US ports, you do not need to get off the ship to clear customs/immigration etc.

You will also get an 'in transit' card to use to get back on the ship if you decide to go ashore in the morning. You don't need to wait with all the new joiners.

You will not have to go to the muster drill on the second cruise, but if you are in a totally different part of the ship then it is a good idea to go just as a reminder to yourselves. I keep the 'in transit' card with me if I am up on the lido deck, just in case anyone asks/reminds about muster.

Sorry to hear about on going health problems. All the best to you both. Yes, the itinerary wad great. We had done it twice before. Regards

Swiss Dave-

Yes, full marks, we are in CB out of Southampton. Have done a,couple of b2b cruises out of Southampton so are familiar with the turnaround arrangements. However, always kept the same cabin so no moving problems.

Quite agree about the transit card, we always keep it to hand, like you. Will have two mini bar set ups on the first cruise ( we are elite), so will swop one,for two coffee cards. Still another set up to come on the second cruise!! Sure won't notice if the sea is s bit choppy!!!

We have never moved our belongings to the new cabin ourselves.

In fact, we are usually off the ship touring when the transfer occurs.

We pack all our normal personal stuff (including safe contents) in one of our locked suitcases and the staff moves our regular suitcases + our usual carryons + the hanging stuff while we are on tour.

Have never had a problem doing it this way.

Just did 3 back-to-backs on the Caribbean Princess in January. These were short Caribbean cruises (4- or 5-day). We had to change rooms each time, different decks. We had to pack everything in suitcases, except for the hanging items. No mention made of leaving things in drawers. We were instructed to vacate room by 9:00 am and meet in one of the dining rooms at either 10:15 or 10:45, forget which. All in-transit passengers had to disembark as an escorted group to go through immigration and then reembark as a group. We were allowed to enter our new rooms as soon as we reboarded. All luggage was moved for us, but as I stated, we had to pack everything up in suitcases, except for hanging items. On the first turn-around day, our luggage was waiting for us in our new room; on the second turn-around day, we beat our luggage to our new room, although it came within about an hour. Since we did not accompany our luggage to our new rooms, each time we carried our valuables (jewelry, ipad, etc.) with us. We've since decided that unless we can stay in our original room, we won't do back-to-backs again -- just too much hassle packing up and unpacking multiple times.

I moved from a Window Suite to a regular Balcony (oh, woe is me). Preference to do it the other way since it is such a drastic change. The Window Suite drawers to do fit in any other cabin. They are huge and multiple. Be sure to check each nook and cranny...

Princess does this often. There is some coordination happening behind the scenes. It may seem very hectic, but someone will come and move you as soon as the second cabin is available.

Best part of a b2b is that you do not have to attend the muster drill again.

I have gone so far to ask the vacating cabin what time they expect to depart from the ship. I explain I will be moving to their cabin. This way, I can " sorta " plan. Walk off's vs. last color luggage called. I do not rush them. It just helps me plan if I also have the time to " sleep in".
