Luggage Lost. Can we buy clothes on Eurodam?

Different strokes for different folks - our whole family loves all 3 (TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Ross). Every time we cruise, we stop at these stores and stock up on inexpensive clothing that we just can't get up here on the "frozen tundra". Being able to purchase blue jeans at $12, and Lily of France undergarments for $6 is worth buying an extra suitcase to bring our new wardrobe home. We are currently awaiting the arrival of our first grandchild, so I took our last trip as an opportunity to outfit the little guy from birth to 3 years! LOL

I do hope the OP returns to let us know if they received their luggage.

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Maybe shopping at discount outlets like TJ Maxx, Marshall's and Ross is not normal procedure for some folks... but...... the poster who was asking about where they could replace lost luggage/clothing would have a limited budget from the airline.

They were on their way to the Caribbean thus needing shorts, tees/summery tops, flip-flops, swim suits, undies, and maybe a couple of sundresses for dinner. All of these items are available at deeply discounted prices at the stores being mentioned above. You could probably come up with a reasonably nice looking wardrobe for the week within the budget allowed. Is it what they probably would have shopped for at home? No .. but the circumstances here required some extensive shopping in a limited amount of time.:)

Those stores plus Steinmart get most of my clothing dollars. I COULD spend more elsewhere but the fact of the matter is that I'm cheap when it comes to clothing. I outfitted my last cruise with 5 long summertime dresses..and not one was over $9.00.

although I don't normally shop at Ross, I like to go in just to look at the "dress up" clothes. I have found amazing dresses for formal nights for $12. I like that I can get a new dress for the trip not spend a fortune!! Plus, if I never wear it again, that is fine...it was 12 bucks!

This is perfect for those with lost luggage. Would it be first choice, maybe not but you could get plenty of nice things for a limited budget.

Love Steinmart, Bells, and Sam's Club for sport clothes. Thank goodness OP was not heading out on a trans-Atlantic cruise. Where the luggage can't catch up. Horrors! When we sailed out of Auckland a few years ago on a 25-day cruise to Japan, I made sure that I had at least 3 changes of underwear, one formal outfit for me, and a change of casual in each carryon bag. I was paranoid about the possibility of lost luggage. And, yes, with knits, it was possible to carry a long knit dress for formal night. Bling does a long way to dress up even a plain dress. Hope OP's bags made it. Sure does take the edge of the anticipation, doesn't it!

I totally understand where you're coming from. When I taught middle school I bought a lot of my "teaching clothes" at those stores. I needed variety and "style". Middle School girls will definitely let you know if you're not "stylish" LOL

I also have found many "occasion specific" dresses/outfits there for really reasonable prices including some things I have in my "cruise only" box.:D

I live in total fear of lost luggage! I wear a plus size, so it is often difficult to find decent cruise clothes. I always pack at least one change of clothes in carryon and split his and hers between checked bags so we each have formal and informal clothes in each suitcase, but losing both checked bags? Disaster!

If you leave it till you board you might get a choice of two or three shirts and tops and a similar range of trousers, probably even less skirts, luck if you fing any underwear, grab at least the bare essentials before you embark.

How right you are! It takes a lot of time and effort (not even considering money) to put a wardrobe together at home, where you have a selection of stores, and mail order available. I can't imagine trying to do it on the fly, where you have little knowledge of the stores, and have to get to the places.

Hope the OP was able to cobble together some things to wear, and that the luggage caught up.

Another HAL cruiser once told me that when their luggage was lost, HAL escorted them to a room on A deck that had all sorts of things. She guessed it was where all of the lost laundry and items left behind go. They picked out a few pieces (even heels!) and were given a toiletries kit that included disposable underwear and a few HAL t-shirts. Not sure if that tidbit is helpful to the OP, but was something I never knew about.

And just for fun.... our lost luggage story! Arrived in FLL on a delayed Southwest flight just after midnight but our luggage did not. Actually one bag did, but all that was in it was our formal wear and swim suits! Our transatlantic left at 3pm.....15 hour later! We were up till after 2am trying to troubleshoot with the airlines. Did I mention we were traveling with a 4 & 6 year old, too?!?

Back to the story....out of sheer desperation I went to the only store open before noon on a sunday and close to Embassy suites- Ross. It was like shopping in a flea market for a family of four who would be at sea for the next 7 days and then traveling through Europe for the next month! Next I hit Publix for some basic toiletries. We boarded the ship wearing the same clothes we traveled & slept in the night before, politely turned down the embarkation photo, and then moaned to our fellow passengers. Finally, just as the ship was blasting it's horn and we were sailing away we heard a knock at our suite door and there were all three of our other pieces!

The kiddo pajamas were the only Ross purchase worth keeping. Every time they wear them I still laugh at the experience!

p.s. Southwest did reimburse for all the clothes at Ross. Our travel insurance would not because we did not wait 12 hours after the plane landed to purchase them.

We like to go to the embarkation ports 2 or 3 days before the cruise.

Both of us are plus sizes, so getting replacement clothes would be a challenge.

Since we are away for nearly a month, we take 4 suitcases and split everything between them. I always have that fear that luggage will be lost as well.
