Room service and to go food

We have no problem with this new policy. We were recently on the Jewel with a group of eight. Twice in the week we had instances where food was ordered but was unable to be eaten. Specialty restaurants both times. In each case the server or maitre d' asked if the guest would like it delivered to their room. It was in each case. We felt it was a nice gesture.

On a cruise on another line a few years ago ... we were crossing the Atlantic on a 16-day just before the holidays. A lady (in the CC group) decided it would be a good idea to take home cookies to serve over the holidays. EACH DAY she was seen taking dinner plates full of cookies to her room. It became a laughing matter to guess how she carted all those dozens of cookies home. On the same cruise another lady was seen bagging up (several times) small serving cups of Nutella to take home.

<rolling eyes>

NCL should be ashamed of themselves for this new rule. if you want to beautify then pick up the plates in the hall, most of them are from your room service. After our next scheduled cruise we are switching back to Royal Caribbean! You have lost another loyal customer.

LOL.

Did you even look at her cruise history?

It sure looks to me like she tried NCL first, then Royal, then Carnival, and settled on NCL, the line she had tried first.

Why be snarky?

Charging for room service and not allowing food out of the dining area ... 2 more great reasons why I will never cruise on NCL again!

Good, glad you are gone and anyone that is crying about never cruising NCL Again! Just cause of room service changes and bringing back food? Give me a break... are you all pigs?

Listen I think it stinks also, but I'm not going to say I'm never cruising with NCL again over these issues....I'm just going to sneak it back into my cabin..and no I'm not taking more than 1 full plate...I'm sure many others will also.

This is the new CEO trying to make more $$$ for the company and their Suits sitting behind a desk every Tuesday thinking of ways to make $$$. All Companys think of stupid greedy ways and this is to make sure the room service takes full affect. Like I said, I'm still going to sneak food into the room, especially dessert.

If I had to pick something that they should let you do, is all specialty restaurants you are aloud to bring back food...after all, you are paying the extra fee for that.

Some people here need that lesson. They post here and post there, revealing their name, their location, etc. It's crazy.

Lol. I change my demographics all the time and do I live in Florida or NYC? Male or female? young or old? The only thing that I am serious about is the important info I post on cc as I never embellish the facts.

Keep em guessing. Lol

I enjoyed the part about how people who are upset with the policy are pigs, followed immediately by the "I agree that it stinks, and Im going to sneak food back to my room."

There will be plates and cups in the room from room service. There's no difference.

It would be easy enough for the computer system to cross-check to see whether room service was ordered between times the room was cleaned (i.e. "policed for evidence of food crimes").

Somehow I think a lot of the room stewards would think twice about reporting anyone in fear of not getting any tips at the end of the cruise. I have even read reports of room stewards bringing ashtrays to people for $$ (not at all saying this is right, they are breaking the rules themselves now and I would think they would be fired for doing so)...just saying. Most of them go out of their way to make you have an enjoyable time.

Oh, I agree -- it's a policy that's nearly unenforceable in practice. I just hope NCL corporate figures that out before they hurt themselves.

There's plenty of ways to "hide" the evidence and I'm pretty sure people would get pretty darn creative. I'm not at all saying for everyone to go against the rules, just saying it will happen.

I can hear the "Mission: Impossible" theme playing in my head even now.

I can probably count on 1 hand how many times I have ever brought food back to my room (and it usually involved our young daughter), so it really doesn't have too much of an impact on me. But now being told that I won't be "allowed" (like if I'm a child) and if there's ever a need for it, you bet I will do it. If they try to charge me a cleaning fee...they can have my DSC as a cleaning fee because those will be removed. ;)

Agreed; the "nanny" aspect of the policy is especially annoying. I've already got a mom, thanks. That, combined with the utterly transparent lie that it's not just to generate revenue, is what's got me riled up.

NCL will probably get 2 more cruises out of me (the one I have coming up and to use up my FCC) and I will be the biggest cheapskate there ever was on them. Then I will move on and cruise with another line. I'm almost ashamed to say I cruise with Norwegian at this point. :(

I've got an NCL cruise already planned for June that I'm not going to cancel at this point. Hopefully a month will be long enough for NCL to rethink and change this ridiculous policy. Even if not, I will probably still purchase a FCC and hope they reverse their course in under four years.

Look, if the problem is guests walking around with plates of food, then they ought to drop the room service charge so guests will be more likely to use it. If the problem is dirty plates in the passageways, that's going to keep happening as long as there is any room service at all, so they should either end it or increase the frequency with which hallways are checked. But if the problem is that the line just isn't making enough money, they should at least have enough respect for their customers to come up with a better lie.

Maybe they need to change their signature theme song?

Who's watching?

Tell me who's watching

Who's watching me?

I'm just an average man, with an average life

I work from nine to five; hey hell, I pay the price

All I want is to be left alone in my average home

But why do I always feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, and

I always feel like somebody's watching me

And I have no privacy

Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me

Tell me is it just a dream?

When I come home at night

I bolt the door real tight

People call me on the phone I'm trying to avoid

Well, can the people on TV see me

Or am I just paranoid?

When I'm in the shower

I'm afraid to wash my hair

'Cause I might open my eyes

And find someone standing there

People say I'm crazy

Just a little touched

But maybe showers remind me of

"Psycho" too much

That's why

I always feel like somebody's watching me

And I have no privacy

Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me

Who's playing tricks on me?

Who's watching me?

I don't know anymore

Are the neighbors watching?

Who's watching?

Well, it's the mailman watching me, and I don't feel safe anymore

Tell me who's watching

Oh, what a mess I wonder who's watching me now

(Who?) the IRS?

I always feel like somebody's watching me

And I have no privacy

Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me

Tell me it is just a trick

I always feel like somebody's watching me

And I have no privacy

Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me

Who's playing tricks on me?

I always feel like somebody's watching me

Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me

Tell me it can't be

I always feel like somebody's watching me

I can't believe I actually caught that post in all of these, but it still gave me a chuckle.

Sigh. I am getting more and more distraught over the changes going on with NCL since Kevin left. He turned that line around and made it what it is today (which was successful) only for Del Rio to start tearing it apart and crumbling it in a matter of months losing a lot of devoted cruisers.

I always try to remain on the positive side when things happen...whether it be changes or something happening bad on my cruise. Anyone around here knows that I can take all my broken bones I get on a cruise and make it into a positive and still have fun. However...things just seem to be going a bit too far lately.

These changes...well for the most part, they do not effect me. But as a whole, it is affecting the cruising community in big ways.

I have to say that I have only ordered room service once and I didn't like it at all. We normally book interiors and well, to me it's just not much fun to eat in an interior. However, we have been booking balconies lately and I can definitely see where people would want to get a danish and enjoy their coffee on their balcony. Do I? Nope. Never have. So that's not my gripe.

My gripe would be that yes...I own a child. :p She started cruising with us at 3 years old. Back then I think about the few times that we sat down to eat and we were called to come get her from the kids club. They packed up our dinner to take with us back to the room. Then there was the time that we picked her up from the kids club and she was so tired that after sitting down and ordering at Blue Lagoon, she fell asleep. They packed it up for us and we took it back to the room (obviously not being able to go out to get anything else after that). For reasons like this, for people with kids, for people that might need snack because of being diabetic or an illness, they get interrupted at dinner for whatever reason...this all saddens me.

But I honestly can't see how they are going to enforce the buffet. Seriously. I can't see anyone chasing you down and grabbing your plate as you go by. If my child is sleeping and we want a snack and someone has to stay back at the room...you best believe I'll walk back with something. I would never be one to disobey the rules, however, this is going a bit too far. What happen to freestyle cruising?

For NCL to come on here and act like we are just too plain stupid to figure out that their lame excuse of either it being a health issue or for the 'beauty of the ship" just makes them look ignorant in my book. If that's the case, you wouldn't be having room service you greedy shiznits...and charging for it PLUS 18% gratuity seriously?! You would put a stop to ALL food in the rooms...since it makes it dirty and unsanitary and all.....

Your timing is the worse! You excuses make it worse! The way you go about these announcements (or lack there of) are the worse!

I WILL NOT pay you extra to order room service. You will not get money out of me for that.

All the changes with the specialty dining now...kids paying full price (I think it was changed or I read something about it?) and the show on the first night no longer being offered as part of the package...and whatever else that I can't seem to keep up with the changes....I WILL NOT be paying to go to the specialty dinning. I will only eat at the free venues from here on out! You will not get money out of me for that.

NCL has upped the DSC now. I noticed the price of the soda package has increased. It's just one thing after another lately. The madness isn't ending, it just keeps getting worse. NCL has now gave new meaning to feestyle cruising for sure. They ARE out to nickel and dime you as others have said in the past. I will pay my cruise fare, I will pay my DSC and they will not get another dime out of me for anything extra that I would normally do...specialty dining, excursions, ice cream on the Getaway, lobster tails danish (sniff sniff I'll miss you) and so on.

I have my upcoming Dawn cruise in 29 days. I will NOT be buying a future cruise certificate. I do have 1 FCC left on my account. What happens between now and when I use that will determine if I ever buy another. I was trying to sail every ship in the fleet (and have been doing a pretty good job of it), but I think I will fall short now with all these changes. I knew there was a reason that I have now tried Carnival out twice and completely LOVED it. Go figure... They might be my new "permanent" ships of choice when it's all done and over with.

I feel like NCL has tried to insult my intelligence and it's not going over well. :(

Well said mitsugirly!

Many of us will follow you to a different cruise line. :(

But remember when you post on that type of fb page.....the potential for every single fb user on the planet to see your personal stuff is exponential even on a closed group fb page.... You do not know who else is a member

So you are potentially giving up your real name and cruise date..... And possibly your home town and your kids pix/profile pix etc ....to complete strangers.... But that just mho of course

Of course I didn't put my name, location or personal info on the NCL FB page or twitter. But I did put a link to CC, but I guess people could always go to the Roll Calls if they want to see when people are traveling.

I did have a great girl Amy from NCL post her email and she fix my problem....We will see when we get onboard.

No more pool deck BBQ's? What about the hot dog cart on Breakaway? Where can you eat your pastry from Carlo's?

I can't wait to hear how this play out....

There will be 'food police' to make sure that everyone finish all the BBQ, hot dog, pastry, and etc. before they can leave.

If you ever thought a restaurant/venue was busy before, just you wait. Apparently many people like to spread around the ship or their room from casual take out places or to have their dessert later after dinner time. Now that they can't, you'll find most of them jammed into restaurants at similar times. Good luck getting a table. Have fun with any service you're expecting to get.

Anyone want to bet how many housekeeping staff will be put to pasture because the ships will magically stay cleaner now?

I think if you advertise Freestyle you have to kinda, sorta be Freestyle too otherwise the nomenclature means nothing. And if your company doesn't mean anything, well, how far are you going to get from where you are today? And will it be in the right direction? NCL, you will need a LOT more than first timers to keep your upcoming megaships packed and operating profitability to pay the note.

I understand a business needs to generate revenue and hopefully make a profit, and for a new CEO especially to differentiate and take things to another level. But they should remember that they are the commodity, not the customer.

The customer is the guest. NCL is in the hospitality business. We give NCL discretionary income for a vacation that is supposed to be relaxing and out of the ordinary day to day life. Someone up there ought to get that message loud, clear, and soon before they end up with some capacity problems.

Yes, with all the changes and most recent one Norwegian Cruise Line has banned "takeaway" food from its ship restaurants, main dining room and buffet areas. This make everyone upset/angry the most. :(

They need to change it to Feestyle like a few mentioned before from Freestyle.

Please tell me this does not apply to drinks/ alcoholic beverages? Does anyone know?

If I go to the bar and get a Daquari and want to drink it on my room balcony I should be allowed to do so!

Your profile pix shows up when you post on fb

You would be surprised how many fb users have their profile pix open to the public domain

Fwiw every time you change your profile pix it reverts to the public domain and an extra step is needed to change it back to friends only

Cover pix are always public and can't be made private so it's best to have a non descriptive one

I just don't get why any fb user ever posts on a public page anyway.... Your name is now able to be viewed by any fb user anywhere and with many cc posters having their faces published I would just think twice about complaining on the public ncl fb page under my real name.....even a closed group has thousands of members that can see your profile and unless you know those members personally ....🙀

I've always said it was a slippery slope that so many are just blindly going down and I don't mean just in the cruising world

The first time cruisers that ncl is now aiming for will be none the wiser.

Which is what ncl wants of course

Some people really just don't know how all this works. I'm sure people don't do it so others find out everything they can about them. OTOH, one can't live in a box either. Just need to be careful.
