Just saw this on another site

"I am on the Gem right now. I asked at guest services about this and they told me the room service charge will go into effect next cruise (May 2) and it is true that restaurants will no longer let you take leftovers back to your cabin or have them sent there."

How nice to see a response from NCL. This makes sense to me:)

That seems very fair, are there any Exceptions to this rule that would allow people to take leftovers, such as a parent to an unruly child or similar circumstances?

fine and dandy. I personally never eat leftovers not even at home. But I do feel its wrong for other people who eat leftovers that NCL would rather throw it out than let them take it with them. Seems kind of wasteful to me.

"..and if you would like food in your room we will gladly deliver it to you for a small $7.95 convenience fee.

Right.

Because if it was truly about "a beautiful clean environment for all of our guests to enjoy" it would have been done long ago, rather than coinciding with a $7.95 charge for room service.

Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all.

Back to booking insides/oceanviews, unless one wishes to enjoy coffee & other beverages on the balconies with chips & roasted peanuts ?? Oh, wait, it's fine if delivered by Room Service or by the butler, you just cannot bring it back yourself, I see - oy vey !! Mamma Mia ...

With the price of those chips & peanuts, the room service charge might just be a better deal! ;)

Certainly it's to push room service for those people that really want to eat in their rooms. The idea that there is 24/7 dining available is true and for those people that are taking left overs because they might want a snack later, this makes sense.

For those that really just want to sit in their room or balcony and eat, this is to drive room service revenue and supports the small per person revenue increase the CEO said he wanted.

I bet they soften their stance in time, once people get used to the general culture of things.

I had hoped they would have gone fleet-wide with the lower room service charge as I think sub-$5 is an easy sell to people. I didnt mind paying $5 for pizza to be delivered and I wouldnt paying $5 for someone to bring me my meal to my room either.

In time, this will just be how it is.

NCL response is too funny, notice only have 213 responses! Need to keep responding guys. I know that bringing home a small tidbit satisfies my craving and makes me eat less food. For instance, I remember ordering a fruit plate in O'Sheehans, took the small piece of banana bread back to cabin and ate it the next morning with coffee brewed in the room for bfast. Now that saved me calories, time and food from the buffet. Do you read that NCL? With new restrictions, it will make people want to take more food back to rooms in defiance.

Really?

How gullible do you (NCL) think we are?

So, this rumored move is now confirmed by NCL, and it has nothing to do with food safety but with maintaining a clean environment.

NCL, does this now include the buffet as being off limits, not just O'Sheehans & the MDR's or specialty ??

What's next? Guests with utensils, plates & cups in their stateroom will be subject to a daily cleaning surcharge of $7.95, plus a 18% gratuity ... just saying :D   I can see lots of kowtow, again - NOT !

Since reports back from some passengers, who have encountered this new rule, say it is still okay to take food out of the buffet, possibly you could stop there before it closes and pick up a snack for the next morning. Just a thought. Edited by NLH Arizona

This is actually my only question also because we love getting breakfast from the buffet and eating on the balcony. It seems very difficult to limit food brought outside the buffet as many people get lunch from the grill and buffet and eat on the pool deck. I personally don't like the room service trays that line the hallways full of eaten food. That, in my opinion, isn't very clean.

I have booked my first NCL cruise for next summer and started following NCL on cc in March. Normally a Disney family, we thought about trying something else. I dare say I am regretting it at this point. This perfectly encapsulates all of the official NCL responses I have seen in the that time. We booked a suite and have never ordered room service on a cruise before, so a lot of these don't even impact me, but the brazen revenue maximization and farcical explanation churns my stomach.

This poses a real problem for my wife and I. She has food issues and physically can't eat an entire meal at once. It's normal for us to go up to the buffet and build a plate to take back to the cabin for later.

At dinner, she will often have an entree sent to the cabin to finish later. Seriously considering canceling now as this WILL affect the quality of our cruise.

Could you please qualify that the buffet is part of this, because posters coming back from recent cruises have said they were able to take away food from the buffet and no one has posted that they were told they couldn't. Thank you.

More misinformation. SMH!!

The article, not you.

This change would be completely fine if it didn't coincide with a new charge for room service. Out of all the lines I have cruised (Princess, Carnival, RCI, Disney) I felt most nickel and dimed on my NCL cruise. It seems like they care less about guest experience and more about money which is why I will NEVER cruise NCL again.

We were on the Epic last week and had no problem taking food from the buffet to eat else where we saw lots of people doing this and no one was told they couldn`t take food from the buffet restaurant . Hope this helps some of you x
