Room service and to go food

You weren't really paying for a service you weren't using- the food was food that was available in other venues for free so it was the same included food that everyone paid for (or it was a surcharge item that the ordering passenger paid for) and the server was compensated by the service charge. So technically by not utilizing room service you weren't using a service that you had paid for.:).

You pretty much said exactly why room service on NCL now has a charge to it....

Why, so we can pay for something that's been paid for? In any event it's only the beginning for Del Rio and that is the worrisome part.

In that case, everything should come with an added surcharge. There are several things on a cruise ship that we don't take advantage of. That doesn't mean I think they need to start charging those who do a surcharge. We all have different tastes & enjoy different things. In the end, it all equals out.

Cruise critic: Please stop this thread! Everyone has already shared way more than they know.

Why? There may be new members that join CC that wish to post here.

Just don't click it and you won't have to read it. All it takes is a little willpower. If a thread interests you....click it and read. If it does not....don't click.

Actually, very simple! :)

There's also unsubbing oneself so they don't see it in the User CP and not getting a email update everytime someone posts too......

Yes, and they may be posting new questions that get bumped off the front page because the same people have said the same thing 50 times over and unnecessarily keep the thread bumped.

Just sayin'.

There are also members boarding ships weekly. They could return with info on their experiences. I keep returning to these threads hoping there will be more onboard experiences posted here. I'm hoping to see the actual onboard experience differs from recent changes. ;)

Yep, that's correct. Unless they're reading 'live'. Then they just don't click the button!

Here's the thing and we can all agree to disagree on this point - The difference between the buffet and room service is pretty much who is bring up. In the case of buffet, it the passenger(s) that bring the food to themselves while room service its ship delivery person that brings the food to the passengers. Which brings up the good question how many people realky use room service? Because, honestly, I don't see NCL making money off of it since there's buffet, MDR and O'Sheenan's to eat at (not everyone sits down and eat at the same exact time)

Regarding the MDR - well Royal already charges for premium items in there and NCL hasn't had lobster or Escargot in there before Del Rio took office plus some dishes portion sixes are small. So no, I will not be shocked if charged but NCL makes money off specialty dining anyway-it really depends on whom one asks really regarding the MDR. Regarding the entertainment/activities - thats one spot that will really drive people way due to it already having a high price on it (like bingo, Cirque, etc) or it was free and now has a charge just to use or watch ( Burn the floor, rope course, water slides, etc).

Great post! The only value remaining in this thread is most of these posts are now making me laugh. If the thread is pulled, I will miss my mid-day chuckle.

This has become a witch hunt.

Well, it's good to know that there really aren't any new room service charges or rules prohibiting guests from taking their own food to their cabins. It was all just a "witch hunt!" :)

On jewel now. 24/7 pizza still in place. No room service fee. I also see people carrying plates of food around ship. Have not tried to-go in oshehans yet.

And the roll out schedule for the Jewel was May 7th. So it appears that even the new rules are inconsistent - dependent on which ship one is on.

Maybe their memo got lost in the mail?

Interesting. Does management on each ship have final say over policies on their ship?

Haven't read all the thread so don't know if this has already been posted. Just read the new room service menu and it states that if a drink is purchased then the $7.95 fee isn't charged. So surely this means if you order a $2 bottle of water then the fee is wavered. Am I right in thinking this?

Where do you see that?

I saw the room service menu on another thread, and that's exactly how I interpreted it as well. If you purchase a drink or specialty item, (basically anything that incurs the 18% service charge) you don't get hit with the $7.95 fee.

If that's the case, then I think this $7.95 thing isn't a big deal. If me and my soon to be wife decide we want to stay in the cabin and just order room service, you can be darn sure there will be a bottle of wine or some drinks involved. :)

Agreed! I still want to see it though. I'm sure someone will post it. I'm not wading thru all of these posts to find it! Edited - found it. Correct - doesn't include the charge. Well ... ok :-) So I will tell the kids instead of pulling a soda out of the mini bar, to just order it with their RS.

Looks like we've cracked it haha! I'm sure most people would order a drink with their food anyway so more than like just pay the price of the drink plus 18% or if you have the UBP then just order your drinks plus a bottle of water or wine ;-)
