Jewel ~ S. Caribbean and Panama Canal ~ April 25th & May 2nd ~ My Diary

Recommended Posts

Hey......good to hear from you. LOL! Bernadette and I found out we had several cruise buddies in common!! Small world.

Anytime you need any advice about beaches....don't hesitate to get in touch!!

Hi' date=' Jane! I am really enjoying your review.

I notice that you have been to many of the Caribbean islands and often visit beach resorts with many ammenities. I think I might like to try this on our next cruise.

We will be in Antigua, Tortola, St.Kitts, St. Martin, and Dominica. Could you recommend which of these would allow the best experience for a beach resort and which resort? Our only real need is shade.

Thanks so much.[/color']

Well, of course, the Marriott in St. Kitts. You might Google the Jolly Resort on Antigua. It's right next to the beach that we go to, Valley Church. I have not been there, but I understand it is nice. Might be a little pricey.

Have not been to Tortola, but was supposed to go twice on The Jewel, but the pier is not finished there yet. But according to my research......the Long Bay Resort is the place to go.

Not sure about any resort in St. Maarten, but we always go to Palm Beach on Orient. Check out the part of the review when we were inSt. Maarten for info.

Dominica does not have any beach resorts. But there is a resort on the other side of the island called Jungle Bay. We knew cruise buddies who easily rented a car there and drove over there for an amazing lunch with a stunning view. I saw the pictures!

Hope this helps!

We have been to the Jolly Roger Resort which was nice. We didn't know if it was still around.

Lou

I think you can just go to Jolly Beach and not use the resort, but I haven't tried that, so I don't know for sure. May have to check it out. But we, too, must have shade and food.

We got into San Diego very early. What a beautiful port. We thought we might have a lot of wait time getting off the ship. We've heard of others having problems. We went to the Windjammer for breakfast this morning so we could eat a little faster than the MDR. That worked out well. Still had eggs to order! We grabbed a table with Skiergirl and Mr. Ski. Glad to be able to say good-bye to them.

We went back to our cabin and got all our stuff together and headed down to the Safari Lounge (Diamond Plus area for disembarking). Well the Lounge was still being used by immigration. They were still looking for people that had not presented themselves yet. Always the way!! So we grabbed a seat in the Schooner Bar. We actually did not have to wait too long. At 5 of 9 they called us to get off. Our scheduled time was 9:05. It was probably one of the easiest disembarkations we've ever had. We picked up our luggage (after a big long hug from Diego!!) and walked out the door......We didn't even have to show anybody our passports!

Our plan next was to get a taxi over to the car rental place at the airport.....which was right there at the port! We rented a car and drove up to Los Angeles to visit our very good cruise buddies who live there. There was a birthday involved! We spent the night with them' date=' then met up with cousins who live in Pasadena. We stayed with them for two days and we had wonderful visits with everyone. We flew home from Los Angeles the following Tuesday. It worked out great and I'm so glad we did that instead of flying home right away.

So once again....two fabulous cruises are in the books!! We had a marvelous time and met some very wonderful people, as we always do, but there seemed to be so many this time!! I hope that we can keep in touch and cruise with many of them in the future. I think we will!! As our cruise buddies in Los Angeles will tell you......don't tell us to come to visit......because we will!!!!!!

So as always.......we would like to offer a toast to all our cruise buddies.....past and present......It was a blast......and we hope to see you again on a future float. We'll be on the Independence in September.....but always looking for something in the meantime. In a couple of weeks we will celebrate our 30th anniversary. Our first cruise was spent on Song of America for our honeymoon, so I feel like we have been with Royal Caribbean for 30 years.

Here we are boarding that very first cruise. Little did we know that was the start of an addiction that many of us here on CC have. It's been a great 30 years and hopefully, before 30 more......we might join the Pinnacle Club!!! Stay tuned!!

I think that picture cost $3.95!!!!

Cheers and Salud!! Until we see you again!!

LOL, Patti, I was thinking the same thing. I "borrowed" so many photos from someone who did a review of our Allure cruise that I wondered if I even needed to take a camera. (I decided that I did.) :D

LOL! Thanks! I was so sorry to have missed that! I would have given Bernard and Robert a run for their money! :D. Instead I spent an hour with Miss Congeniality in the spa!

They have made wonderful improvements to the cabanas and the beach area. When we were here in December' date=' there were bulldozers all over the beach, digging everything up. Looks great now.

Hey there my friend....sorry if you already answered this but I don't have time at the moment to read through the whole thread again.....

1) Did you email ahead for the day pass reservation?

2) Is the cabana included or was it an extra fee?

(Thought that might be a good place for our non-golfer to hang out while the rest of us are golfing later this year.).

Thanks!!!

We ran into another former cruise buddy' date=' also named Kay. She won one of the prizes.

We won the raffle in the casino on the first night. And in addition to the other gifts...it came with four solid gold coins. :D <just kidding> :p But we had quite a few Spin to Win raffle tickets on the last night raffle. We didn't win anything else though.

I went back a bit, but didn't see the reference. What beach/island has the new white/blue cabanas?

Thanks,

~Patti :)

Hey CoralC....I'm sure Max Mom will be here soon to help us all out. If you are referring to my post right above....it is the Marriott on St Kitts.

One more question....was there food and beverage service on the beach or do you go up to the pool area to drink/eat?

OK...I was getting worried since Max's Mom hadn't been here to see the recent posts. So I researched and here is what I found: (a post from Weds that explains her absence)

We're heading to New Jersey tomorrow to visit with John's family and celebrate our 30th anniversary. Not looking forward to that drive' date=' but it will be good to get away. Will post some pictures on FB.[/size']

Happy 30th Anniversary!!!!!

Jane,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your entertaining and informative review of this B2B cruise on the Jewel. Your interesting pictures and commentary is extremely delightful. I always have to read your complete reviews to the end.

Loved the addition of your dry erase board and the daily art work. So fun.

Will never pass up a Max's Mom review!
