Carnival Liberty Evacuation

Good morning. We got our walking papers this morning. Zone 10 with a flight to our home in Orlando. If you have been following my posts, our intention was to only be flown to San Juan and then stay in a hotel until we can take our original flight back home on the 13th. Guest services said they would cover the hotel expense. Because our flight plans were not what we requested on our form, we went to the Victoria lounge to speak to a Carnival Care specialist to fix our flights. While on hold with the Miami office, the Carnival Care specialist was pulled aside and told that we have received coast guard clearance and will be sailing to San Juan either tonight or early tomorrow. Guests will then be able to stay on the ship until the 13th. I was just informed by the Carnival Care specialist that clearance was granted yesterday, but the coast guard retracted it. However, she was not able to say way it was retracted. Most of the evening last night, we had fuel trucks next to the ship. The letter we received this morning also stated that our air fare will be refunded. So we have received a free cruise, 50% off another cruise, refunded gratuities and pre paid shore excursions and refunded air fare. If anything changes, I will post an update.

That all sounds like good news. Will passengers be allowed to leave the ship today if they want?

And thanks for the update!

Thanks once again... This question might have been asked and answered but having trouble keeping up with the thread...

Pauley, Why were you not allowed to stay on the ship and go back to San Juan with her? I'm thinking that the b2b passengers are staying on her so don't see why other passengers can't also.. Thanks again... You have been an inspiration to all :)

He is staying on the ship, now. :)

I bet that those who insisted on going home yesterday will now regret it after hearing they could stay on and go back to San Juan! ;)

It becomes an issue when you pass out from a lack of oxygen, any gas that displaces oxygen in sufficient quantities will kill you if left in that environment long enough.

Not exactly.

You can have an oxygen saturation of 100 per cent and still have a build up of carbon dioxide.

It may look like you are sleepy or sleeping.

It can also cause a heart attack.

Pauleydm, you are definitely on an adventure.

I envy you a bit. :)

I was just informed by the Carnival Care specialist that clearance was granted yesterday, but the coast guard retracted it.

Permission to sail was retracted. This keeps going back and forth.

It would be great if those scheduled next week are able to cruise.

I'm a bit confused, too! Pauley! They are refunding your original flights and you are taking the flights that Carnival arranged on Sunday? )

Permission to sail was retracted.

They arent flying the Op home as planned, so obviously they have some confidence they will get the ship to San Juan before Sunday.

I think some might be reading post to fast and missing vital details.

I think he meant they originally had permissions to sail yesterday, but it was retracted. However, this morning they were given permission. That is how i interpreted that. I am hoping that is correct!

We were told by Laly, the Carnival Care specialist, that we were granted clearance yesterday by the coast guard, but it was retracted due to us not sailing last night. According to her, we have now been granted clearance by the coast guard this morning and are set to sail tonight or early tomorrow. As far as refunding air fare, the refund will be for outbound flights. I tried to edit my morning post, but I had exceeded my allowed editing time set by Cruise Critic.

That was originally the plan for us to sail the night of the 8th. When we were not granted coast guard clearance by 9:00 pm that night, the captain announced that guests would be flown home from St Thomas starting on the 9th.

Pauley - Have they issued letters or made announcements to everyone on board what the current plan is?

I think what Pauley is saying is coast guard granted permission yesterday to sail but then retracted it for what ever reason. And then this morning coast guard granted permission once again to sail. So I think it sound like their staying on the ship while it cruiser back to San Juan.

Right Pauley?

IMO if the ship can move under its own power and coast guard says it safe then it's a good sign that there might be hope repairs could be made quickly so Liberty can resume cruises again. One can hope.

According to what I read in another cruise publication, the ship can sail but at reduced speeds as of yesterday's clearance. I'm not sure if they fixed what the problem was to have the ship sail at normal speeds. I'd cite the source but it would be blocked by CC anyway. If you know industry publications, you probably saw the article already but it's not in the last few pages I read of the thread since yesterday.

Pauleydm - I wish you a safe onward journey back to San Juan and thank you for taking time out of your vacation to post to the folks at home. :)

Oh, I read pauleydm's comment to be that the Coast Guard granted it yesterday and then retracted it, but it has now been given again this morning... pauleydm, can you please clarify? Thanks!
