klfrodo Posted January 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2016 Sailing out of Venice. Ports will be Greece and Istanbul Turkey. I would imagine that currency at ports will be Euros. On board spending? Probably Euros but Royal will convert final bill to USD when they close out account? What about casino slots and table games. Euros also? Gingerbint Posted January 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2016 I may be wrong but I remember taking Turkish Lira when we went to Kusadasi, Turkey as this is their currency. You may find places that take Euro or dollars but I'm not sure? Usually there are ATM's in the port if you need local currency and don't have any. Sorry it's been a couple of years since we went there.
Langley Cruisers Posted January 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 24, 2016 Sailing out of Venice. Ports will be Greece and Istanbul Turkey.... I would imagine that currency at ports will be Euros. When we went to Turkey, they accepted Euros from us. The prices were in Lira and Euros. All other countries you are porting at accept Euros. ATM's are a good bet to retrieve Euros; try and use a card with a reciprocal bank in Europe which doesn't charge a fee for foreign transactions. As mentioned, on board ship it is all USD on your Sea Pass card (cashless society) even though you are cruising the Med.
Rare John&LaLa Posted January 24, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2016 Onboard spending, including casino, is in USD. Probably because the chips are in Dollars

Many places in Istanbul will only take cash, not cards so be prepared. The tram system only takes Turkish Lira as do some tourist attractions, restaurants, bars. There are numerous currency change shops in Istanbul who will give better rates than if you purchase Turkish Lira in advance in your own country. Rare Bedruthen Posted January 24, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2016 The currency in Turkey is Turkish Lira. Some places accept euros but the exchange rate is atrocious. I see you say the ship is going to Istanbul, but I understood that RCI is no longer calling there as there are major works being undertaken at the port? drarill Posted January 24, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=6769 OP, please read this CC article. Most cruise lines are cancelling Istanbul and other Turkish ports, not RCCL though. Edited January 24, 2016 by drarill
nelblu Posted January 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2016 You probably can get TL or Euros on the ship {GS}. When we cruised the Med. on the Serenade 3 years ago, GS had a listing of various exchanges and the Euro exchange was better on the ship than Bank of America, in the states.
