Reflection Cruisers! Anyone Seen the New "Deli Station?"

I've asked this on the threads regarding the change of Bistro on 5 on Reflection to a Sushi restaurant. Celebrity stated that they were discontinuing the sushi in the Oceanview Cafe and were replacing it with a "Deli Station."

Can anyone onboard Reflection tell me what the Deli Station is offering that is different from the sandwich station that already existed in the Oceanview? Does the Deli have different hours?

I heard that the gelato area was being replaced with a NY deli area on a trial basis. I don't know when it will happen - so not sure of hours yet. There was still plenty of deli meats at the buffet. I just was on Reflection last week (feb 20-27) and it was still gelato.

Loads of sushi on the buffet on Friday past at lunchtime, it was flying onto peoples plates as quickly as it was put out, we sat there for ages watching. Not sure if it was available every day.

Sushi on 5 never seemed busy, we regularly sat in the seats overlooking the atrium just outside in the evenings and it didn't seem busier than bistro on 5 ever was.

When we boarded on 20/2 the sign for Bistro on 5 was still up, it was covered/replaced by the Sushi on 5 sign before dinner.

It seems Celebrity is trying to find something that would work in that wasted space. They already have the lawn maybe they could put a garden in there and grow there own tomatoes. If your going to charge put in something that might work. It seems the brain trust at Celebrity can't come up with anything worthwhile.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was on the 2/27/16 sailing. The NY Deli corner offered made-to-order sandwiches (corned beef, pastrami, etc.) and sides including soft pretzels (the frozen type, but good). For me at least, it was actually the dessert offerings that appealed the most. They had cronuts. There were black-and-white cookies (as seen on Seinfeld), but they weren't as good as the cronuts. It was a good alternative to pizza in the evening.

The buffet sushi was limited to cucumber, tamago (egg) and (imitation) crab, and I think I saw some shrimp. None of those are raw. It was satisfactory, but reminded me of the sushi included at a Chinese or casino buffet just so they can say there's sushi.

No apology needed!! I didn't know either. I googled it :). Then I tried one. And then 2. And then maybe another....lol.

From Wikipedia - A Cronut is a croissant-doughnut pastry invented by Chef Dominique Ansel and trademarked by his Bakery in New York City. The pastry is made by frying a laminated dough in grape seed oil. The fried pastry is then sugared, filled, and glazed.

(Very healthy....lol)!

Celebrity needs to give up this nonsense. Bistro on 5 originally was to be complimentary and they changed it to pay at the last minute. They should make what ever they offer there complimentary.

From the sparse crowds at bistro on 5 it could not have been a money maker anyway.

We were on the 2/27 sailing and Sushi on 5 was empty all the time, the most people I saw in there was a group of 6 officers one night. Definitely seems like a wasted concept and a wasted space. On my last NCL the sushi bar was just attached to a larger asian themed specialty restaurant, that seems like a better idea than dedicating the entire space to just sushi.

As for the NY Deli section, there were a couple items that were good, the cronuts being one. I like the concept but the items that accompany the sandwiches needed to be rotated more often, seeing the same 3-4 hot things at that station each day seemed like a waste.

We just got off the reflection this morning after 14 great nights! When we dined at sushi on five it was quite busy with paying customers and we really enjoyed what we had... It see,ed busier them we had ever seen history on five so it's looking like a good change from what I saw over the 2 weeks on board [emoji39]

Bistro on 5 was never complimentary. The original fee was $5.00 per person.

When the concept was announced celebrity said it would be complementary then right before solstice launched they changed their mind and started charging.
