If you're over-nighting before debarkation I would recommend self-debarkation around 7:00, and take a taxi rather than a HAL transfer. A taxi for two will cost around 45>50 Euro (plus tip), less than the price per person for the transfers, and it will be faster.

If you're not over-nighting just get off as early as you can. That will likely be around 7:30 > 8:00 for self-debarkers. IIRC the taxi will take about 25 minutes.

As discussed here frequently, HAL transport may not accept you if your flight is before a certain time. So a private option is wiser.

Is this a "domestic" Europe flight, or a non-stop US flight? That would impact how much time you have.

Is the HAL ship there overnight? This would also impact your options.

Some reading on the Ital board would also give you lots of info on the issues involved.

Taxi fare was flat rate of 45€ last month. Venice airport is rather small. Agent counters (BA, KLM, AC) would not accept luggage until 2.5 hours before departure.

This is our experience as well. We have been on a few of the Lufthansa 6:30AM flights. Security/agents did not open until 5AM. We were through and at the gate by 5:30

In our experience, 2 hours is plenty for Venice. As others have said, don't bother with the HAL transfer.

If you are flying Lufthansa, the Venice desk can be very picky on the number of bags you have for carry on. Folks ahead of us had a carry on and two shopping bags (with glassware), plus a purse. They were told that the two shopping bags could not go as carry on. We had seen this before at this airport/this airline. Sounded like a $75. charge per bag to pack them and check then. We checked in and left at the counter beside as the argument was heating up. They had an excuse that would not fly.....the store told them there would be no problem with carry on. Duh!

They also don't leave until they are totally full which can make the trip to the airport a nailbiter if people are taking their sweet time to get on.

Absolutely agree with the recommendations to self-debark with your bags and grab a cab

If you are going to use the HAL transfer you must simply "go with the flow" for better or worse. Otherwise, we would simply take a regular land taxi and plan to leave the port by 7:30. Marco Polo airport truly sucks and one should not cut things too close unless they love "risk taking."

We have a 11:35 AM flight out of Marco Polo. The flight and transfer were arranged by HAL so I am confident that we will get there with plenty of time to spare. Does anyone have firsthand experience of not making it?

BTW - we will be in Venice overnight before

Just because HAL made the transfer arrangements doesn't quarantine that you will arrive at the airport in time. As people here have said, they don't leave until the bus is full. Take a taxi and don't deal with the tension of not making your flight.
