Star Class and Royal Genie tipping

Recommended Posts

Oh. Forgot to say I asked this question on our "roll out" thread sometime back. My favorite answer was from Klepton. Which was based on $5pp per service they performed. I can't copy it on tapatalk so here's a picture of Klepton's response:

This is how I plan to do it. Sort of keep a daily tally of what they're doing and see how it adds up at the end. I'm sure I will hand him or her $50 the first day as a starter. For the two of us I anticipate $200-400 for the week. But I'm a generous tipper.

Thank you! This was great feedback!

Hello all! For the Allure Sky Loft - does anyone know if the upstairs curtain is just sheer, or is there also a privacy curtain?

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

It is a white sheer on Allure and Oasis for both Sky Lofts.

I will know about Harmony SLS in March, but the normal CLS appear to have a light purple sheer. We are in a CLS on Harmony in under 2 weeks, so I might be able to find out sooner than later. ;)

Thanks! I kind of wish there was a privacy curtain. My husband and I are taking my brother on his first cruise and he will be in the SLS with us. I like my privacy! I can't wait to see your review (and hopefully pictures) of your SLS when you go on your upcoming cruise! I am wanting to SLS on Harmony, but they are all booked up for the time that I want. (I'm currently on a waitlist). So for now, I am keeping my SLS on the Allure (which we were just on this past May and was wonderful!)

I shared our SLS with a good friend and we are both very into our privacy. There are no mirrors that allow you to see the upper and lower portions of the SLS (at least in 1720). So getting dressed is not an issue nor is bathroom use since closet and bathroom are on each level.

I suppose if one person is a major snorer that could be an issue. But that's what ear plugs and breathe right strips are for :)

Harmony has a purple sheer in the Royal Loft and it's really annoying. The thicker privacy curtain on OA/AL is ideal for privacy and some noise reduction. Sheer only is very ill-thought out in a two bedroom suite.

They most likely just carried the same sheer over from the Harmony CLS and didn't think about using the heavier drape used on the Oasis and Allure RLS.

On a side note the CLS and SLS suites on Oasis and Allure only have a think white sheer even though they can sleep 2 more below on the pull out. The RLS on Allure and Oasis is the only cabin we have seen on deck 17 with the heavy drapes separating it from the lower area.

In reality all of the loft cabins should have the heavier sheer for the reasons you stated above.

Just upgraded from a SLS to a Grand Loft Suite! Anyone have any feedback? It was hard finding pictures/videos online. All I'm seeing are quantum class and Oasis. Nothing for Allure (which is the ship we have this booked on).

Here is a video I found hope it helps

Based on the #s mentioned in this thread, seems a Genie is putting about $800-$1000 a week cash in their pocket, tax free. On top of the room and board. And on top of a base salary commiserate to an officer of the ship which apparently they are. Good work if you can get it! I imagine some guests are true hellions, probably the ones that tip the least, but for the most part not bad for moving a dinner reservation around here and there, or holding some seats in the theater, and generally just being a happy friendly face ready to fulfill the same requests they get week in and week out. They probably wear out a pedometer and a pair of walking shoes every month though.

Lol, I bet you are 100% correct on all your points.

I appreciate this thread as we are currently on the Oasis as star class guests and arrive back to port Sunday. My husband and I could not figure out what to tip the genie. These suggestions helped me decide.

If I can ask, what did you end of tipping your Genie.

We had 6 people in an Aquatheater Suite on Harmony. Four adults and two children. Our Genie was Reyno. Did we receive the services I see some people say they got? Let's just say my Genie did not unpack or pack for 6 people, nor would I ever expect him to. Overall, he was attentive and very thoughtful. We didn't use him excessively and mostly for changing dinner reservations and reserving show seats. Requests were handled promptly, except for our mini bar requests, which took a day or so to sort out. He did escort us to dinner (coming to our suite to get us first) on some nights, other times he met us at the restaurant and there may have been a night we didn't see him at dinner (I think the first night). He escorted us off the ship on port days, arranged bridge and galley tours, and did many things throughout the week that definitely made you feel special. Disembarkation is an absolute delight with a Genie and quite honestly, that alone might be worth the cost of a Star Class Suite for the week. We tipped $700 for the week.

Thank you for your response. Since the Genies are relatively new, it's good to have guidance. I appreciate your opinions on how your Genie worked out for you.

LOL we did too! But then we found a Star Class suite for less than 1k above the most expensive Sky Class suite and snapped it up for 6 of us!

That's why we booked the 2 BR ATS for 4 of us. Normally, DW and I book a GS and our traveling friend book a JS, for the cost of the two suites, we came out much cheaper with the Genie, drink package and specialty restaurants included. We will tip the Genie nicely because according to the British Butler Institute website RCL Genies receive a salary of 2150.00 per month which is 537.50 a sailing not including their tips. I suspect the tips help greatly.

We were in a SLS last November, and loved our Genie. He made all of our reservations, waited for us at the shows (saving front row seats, getting us drinks), escorted us off the ship at all ports, etc. Also made sure our fridge was full of Stellas and champagne, and coconut rangers for the boys every day. Helped set up a large dinner party in CK one night as well. Checked in with us daily, and was always easily accessible by phone. Loop didn't seem to work all that well for us, but the phone was perfect. Also invited us to a quick meet & greet with the MM cast members one night after the show- that was a nice surprise. Tipped him $500 for the 3 of us for the week. Loved every second of it, and can't wait to sail in the OLS this July, where we may ask even more of the Genie since we are traveling with lots of family to celebrate a big birthday.

BTW, does anyone have photos of the OLS on the Allure? Can't seem to find many pics of that cabin either. TIA!

Hi, you're correct about the lack of photos of the Owner's Loft. We had the same issue while looking for images of the GLS before we sailed last year.

While not photos like you asked, I did find a video of the OLS on Allure:

If you haven't already done so, you may be able to find more information if you search for Royal Suite 1701, which was what it was originally known as before being changed to the Owner's Loft.

I hope you find this helpful.

Have a great cruise!

I did not, intentionally. I did point out that I realized the whole concept was new, and I'm sure that they'll be refining things. I did not voice any displeasure. I don't want to cause issues for him - again, he was a nice guy and seemed to care, and was trying. I asked him (after the third wing incident) if the kitchen/room service had it out for him. Someone dropped the ball, no telling who.

Tom

Sorry to dredge up this old thread but the wing incident has been our battle of the cruise. We asked for buffalo wings, as the new room service menu clearly lists buffalo sauce as an option. First day its BBQ sauce, second day we're promised there will be fresh "real buffalo sauce" made - it's BBQ sauce with red pepper flakes. We explain what buffalo wings are on the third day and the chef says he will make it to perfection. This time it's tobacco with a pad of half melted butter in it. So absolutely disgusting.

If folks are doing per person, the big money is in the aqua suites. Seems to me that most of the deck 17 star cabins probably only have two people. Maybe a third on occasion.

There were indeed only 3 of us in the SLS last November, LOVED the Genie, and he assisted us in reservations and other little things- all good, but not necessarily taxing. Still tipped him $500 for the week. We are sailing again in a week and a half, still the 3 of us, but a bigger suite since we are celebrating a big birthday with family. Plan on at least doubling the tip as we will be asking for a lot more- get togethers, cake, etc. I hope this is fair? They do an AMAZING job, and I totally appreciate all of the help to make everyone's trip extra special. I do love this new level of service, and hope that it is working out for the Genies as well.

Hello! With Star Class - in Cococay - i was told by a RC agent over the phone that the cabana was no extra charge. Can someone please confirm if that’s correct? When we last went to Labadee, (we were Sky Class though) and it was almost $450 (we did the over the water cabana, and that’s what I want again!). Our cruise is in March, so hopefully they are back to functional by then (from the hurricane).

Have not seen an over-water cabana in Coco Cay.
