It would be nice. Id like to try Princess when we go to Alaska but since we will be at the bottom whichever line we choose then I'll shop around more. (No, I don't want to sail carnival to Alaska)

 

You're a very astute person. We did Carnival to Alaska on the Legend and it won't ever happen again. I put the Legend right up there with the Inspiration!

Have not done Alaska yet but have been told that Princess does it better than anyone else.

this is the same old and tired argument that drunken bikers and spring breakers are going to overrun Princess and HAL -

 

I'd say closer to Platinum cruisers whining about FTTF

 

A lot more people cruise on Carnival than Princess or HAL, so an overrun could happen. If the drunken bikers and spring breakers want to cruise on Princess and HAL they can pay for their cruise and start out in the basement like everyone else.

 

I don't think even the casinos have a merged Frequent Loser Program.

Its not cruising for the benefits, its if you have two options and all else being equal, it can definitely break that difference

 

I generally look at it as I factor it into my decision making process if deciding between 2-3 cruises. I won't sail just because of the benefits on a line, but they do add value and I lump it in with (and basically behind) itinerary, price, ship, and the like, when I make my decision.

RCCL does it already. Also MSC will match any program.

 

When I cruise Celebrity or RCCL they have separate programs and didn't honor my other cruises. Maybe if you're platinum they may but I only have 28 RCCL days and 35 Celebrity and they told me neither counts for the other line.

All the Naysayers:

 

I am trying to figure out what benefits you trying to protect? Is there a secret door only the elite of the elite have access to that serves unlimited champagne. Do you have a special line at the buffet. Do you get the first row of lounge chairs at the pool. Does your key allow for express elevator service to your deck.

This is not my understanding as FTTF does not have access to the boarding lounge. Also I believe the same is true for disembarkation that there are separate areas for VIFP and FTTF.

 

VIFP Diamond and Platinum members and guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations are the only guests to have access to the Priority Check-In Lounge at embarkation. FTTF guests will not have this benefit so embarkation will not be impacted in the Priority Check-In Lounge.

 

Similar to airlines boarding first class and then elite frequent flyers, etc., we will start with VIFP Diamond and Platinum members, followed by guests traveling in deluxe suite accommodations and then FTTF guests.

The point here is CCL is willing to bend the rules for a price, the fact a first time Carnival cruiser who pays for the upgrade gets the benefit while CCL loyalists of another brand are relegated to the line that snakes out the terminal is not right. I hope you agree..

I agree but the CCL loyalists of another brand have the option of paying for that same upgrade on Carnival.

 

As for sitting next to FTTF guests in both lounges does not mean they were supposed to be there and it is not Carnivals policy.

 

I have sit next to passengers on occasions in first class on an airplane up to the point the flight attendant asks for their ticket tells them they are in the wrong seat. The point is some people will try to bend the rules on their own.

This is not a completely bad idea. I get that people pay more on the higher-end lines and don't want their perks diluted.

 

Maybe the points could be weighted:

 

1 carnival night is only .75 HAL, .5 Princess and .25 Cunard and so on (not sure of the order here). And, you could reverse it:

 

1 Cunard night is 4 Carnival nights, 2 Princess nights, so on and so forth.

 

Would that help in showing the value of your cruising history with a particular line while still allowing you to be recognized if you chose a different line in the family?

That's correct, the equivalent status between RCI and Celebrity kicks in at Platinum, which will give you Celebrity Select or vice versa.

 

RCI Diamond, Diamond Plus and Pinnacle transfers to Celebrity Elite.

 

Celebrity Elite, Elite Plus and Zenith gives you RCI Diamond.

For a very small number of cruisers. It is limited. Imagine if it wasn't how the 100,000+ Platinum cruisers would whine and howl? As it is, they think it is the end of the world. :p

 

Carnival can run their business anyway they want, within reason, as long as they provide the desired ROI to Corporate. They have no authority to dictate how the sister cruise lines run theirs. No easy path for riff raff.

Now THAT could be a good way to do it! Or, it can be based on total $ spent, but just using a ratio like yours will probably serve, but I still prefer the $, but not by much!

 

Let's face it, a person who sails Cunard, and perhaps spends $1000+ per day, is not likely to try Carnival, but maybe the others up the totem pole.

 

Carnival was always about getting new people to cruise and, hopefully get them to move up the ladder once they started buying more upscale lines, but it doesn't work for everyone.

not necessarily. you could have a platinum that spent 10 x 2 night cruises to no where in a 1a cabin and they would not have spent as much as a single 7 night cruise in a suite. yest the platinum would get benefits and the red card suite guest would get practically nothing for many more cruises to come.

 

and why do you think people paid money to reach a certain status. i thought people paid money to cruise and the cruise itself was the benefit. :confused:

Money spent would work too. That way you wouldn't have the complaints about those who reached platinum on Carnival by taking 2-day cruises in a 1a cabin. If weighted, they would get less value on the other lines than someone who always purchased balconies and suites. It could work...
