Star Class Questions -- looking for answers from those who have sailed

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited that I stumbled across this info! Thank you for being so detailed, I'm trying to read everything possible about all of this. We are getting married on a September 2017 Harmony sailing and are staying in 1724! We will be having about 40-60 of our closest family and friends joining us for the week. Getting excited!

Christa, first of all congrats on your upcoming nuptials. You will have a blast with all your family. We are staying in 1724 this March 11th and I will be doing a live review on that sailing. You will find it here on the RC boards.

We are also in 1724 September 30th this year. I wonder will you will be in it the week before us? That would be funny in a good way.

In the meantime let me help you with a bit more Genie info. Below is a link from our RLS Genie review from this past August on Allure. Post 570 and beyond has some Genie review and info sheets. Here is the link.

Hi Andrew

I was following you on your Allure sailing, and was wondering what time you arrived at the port and what time the Genie brought you aboard?

I will be in that cabin on Feb.5th.

Thanx

Adam

Andrew:

Thanks for all of this info. I'll be checking out your March sailing info when that time comes. I hope you post the Compass because since it's the same itinerary as our wedding cruise, I'm trying to plan some group events for our sailing and it would be helpful to see a sample schedule.

We are sailing September 16th. Visiting the Western Caribbean. We will be sure to leave good vibes in the room.

Any idea how the Genie rotation works? I wonder if they keep the same Genies assigned to the same rooms?

Hello Adam.

We arrived at 11am as we had informed our Genie by email and boarded the ship almost immediately as it had been cleared for boarding. Our cabin though was not ready until 12:30. It is promoted that your cabin is ready for your arrival. They welcomed us for 11 but I think they would have been happier if we arrived around 12-12:30. We figure we paid for the time to be on the ship, why not be on the ship.

We did find out from our steward over the week that the people in the cabin the week before us stayed as late as possible and were not the tidiest either. That would explain why our cabin was not ready when we boarded. If that is the case this March we will drop off our stuff in the cabin and hit Park Cafe. Mmmm roast beef.:D

Hi Christa,

Frankie our Genie on Allure said that they have the same cabins for a few weeks (2-3) and then rotate.

As for my review I post the Compasses in a separate thread dedicated to just Compasses. I do this to made it easier for those that need the information and don't need or want to sort through my photos, musings and ramblings. I would suspect that some times and events will change from my sailing to yours but it will give you the jest of it.

If you have any more questions please ask.

Andrew

Ramblings? Andrew you don't ramble :)

I am hoping Frankie re-upped on a new contract and that he will be assigned to us again in May. It will be interesting to see how the program has evolved..

Hi Matt. I emailed Frankie at Christmas wishing him the best to him, and the deck 17 stewards. I also attached an electronic copy of our family Christmas Card. He responded a couple of days later saying that he is doing well, thanked us and wished us the same. We have no sailings on Allure but you never know if we meet up again with him on another ship. I also think with him being far from home on the holidays it would have been a nice surprise for him. When we sailed with him he thought he was going to do another contract so you never know.:)

Hope the Peterson was great. I wasn't selected for the new GT by Ford, slim chance though when I submitted by application. Just over 10 for Canada I knew it was limited. I do know someone who did get one and he was rather excited. Side note, I hope your feeling better from your Indy sailing. Maybe you need a new Bronco to make you feel even better. It's not a Bronco II, but it should do the trick.

Andrew, thanks for the info on Frankie. In May it seemed like ship life was a bit of a wonder to him but maybe he settled in more. We do hope to see him again in May.

And I loved the Peterson. Especially the special Vault tour. Going to the LA auto show the next day I was in car heaven.

Too bad about the GT. That's one exciting vehicle. If the production Bronco looks anything like the concept, I'll be salivating :)

Also I am thankfully over my Indy induced illness. :)

Glad to hear that is long past.:) Glad you had a great time in CA too. The vault is something else. To see McQueens Jag and Hudson Hornet practically side by side was cool. I know the guy that owns McQueens Chev pickup. I literally saw all 3 in a matter of weeks. http://www.legendarymotorcar.com/inventory/1952-chevrolet-pickup-3800-1493.aspx As for the GT, I figured it was most likely not going to happen but if I never applied I'd never be in the running. I did find out though that they just might be making them for 4 years and not two. I can't reveal my sources but they are pretty good.;)

Lisa and I will be off to Pebble this August. We have VIP passes from Chubb Ins and to the Sotheby's Auction. It should be a blast. I'm hoping to catch up with Johnathan Ward again while we are there. He said he often judges, so we might catch a few minutes over the weekend. You might not get one of his Broncos but Ford will see you one for sure. :D

  • 1 year later...

I know you are a flowrider fan and you do have special access to it... You're paying for it - why not enjoy it.

Ron

Can someone who has sailed Star Class explain what the above quote means? What type of special access is available for SC guests? Pardon the newbie questions. I just found this thread and we are sailing SC for the first time. Excited doesn't even describe it :)

They will make a special line for Star class guests for the flow rider. Instead of waiting in line with 15 other people you basically go every 3rd person or so.

The spirit of flow riding is to be with the people that you know and have become friends with over the week. To use the short cut line goes against the spirit if riding.

We are soon about to go on our 4th SC sailing and have 4 more booked. I have only used the short cut line once, to razz my fellow flow riders, 4 days into a cruise. After that quick run, I immediately got back into the regular line and suffered from some good teasing. :)

Did they call you that special name that some have reserved for the line cutters?;)

You will likely get some type of special access. Either private time or you do t wait in the normal line. Pay no attention to the other comment on this. The spirit of cruising is to meet other cruisers and enjoy time together but I doubt that other guy will pass up his escort on and off the ship so that he can wait in line with those that aren’t in suites. Take advantage of your perks. You paid for them. I will be in two months and did star class a year ago. It is awesome and enjoy.

We sailed last April year on Allure and are sailing again this April. My 14 year old loved this perk and took full advantage of it. He met a few other SC kids and they went every third. He received no complaints or teasing. I warned him that he may after reading some of these post last year but he had a great time. I have no problem with him having a shorter line since we paid for it. Enjoy your flowrider!!!

Thanks for all the replies so far. Another question I thought of...if you are eating in one specialty restaurant, can you get food sent to you from a different specialty restaurant? Just thinking of my two kids who probably won't care for 150 CP but hubby and I would want to dine there.

You may be able to get food from the MDR, or the kiddie menu, but not nornally from another specialty restaurant.

One time at Portofino, one in our party wanted the crab cake from Chops. They told us no, but we had been told by our headwaiter that it would be OK. They didn't budge. We had to get the headwaiter to come up before they would walk across the hall and grab a crab cake. They made a big deal out of it.

Once, pre-Star Class, our waiter a went to Park Café and got Owen a bowl of chicken noodle soup. We never asked but when He gave all of the soup options he said that they should still have some left over so he went and got it for him. Sadly funny how it goes.
