peterdoyle33 Posted July 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Hi folks. My wife and I are cruising on Indy on the 27th August and on the day we disembark our flight is not until 6.20pm. I see in my cruise planner there is an option to pay to 'stay awhile', i.e. disembark late. Has anybody done this as it does not specify what time we would need to be off the ship by? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :)

peterdoyle33 Posted July 16, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks for the reply. 3pm at the latest would be fair enough, I was just worried you would have to be off much earlier. I just wanted to know if it would be worth doing, as we will have a lot of time to kill in Southampton if we disembark early.

I guess if you're into the pool and sunning it would be ok - you have access to the public areas of the ship but have to be out of your stateroom by 8:30 still. The shops and casino would be closed - you could use your credit cards at the bars when they opened and lunch at the Windjammer (or I guess any of the open venues if there were others). peterdoyle33 Posted July 16, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Yeah I think it sounds like a plan. I don't think there is a lot to do around Southampton so why not relax on the ship for a few extra hours. Cheers for your thoughts!

cb at sea Posted July 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 17, 2016 While on some sailings, you can stay on the ship later, you will NOT have access to your cabin...you still have to be out very early! I would compare prices of changing your flight to something earlier, to your other options...like a day room, or excursion.....see which is cheaper. Ashland Posted July 17, 2016 #13 Share Posted July 17, 2016 When we sailed the western med it was available when we disembarked in Barcelona...so I believe this "stay awhile" program option can vary....but only on international itineraries. Paulxyz2004 Posted July 17, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 17, 2016 While I do agree on Southampton not being the most exciting place, I would not spend the Money to be allowed to stay onboard. IMO turn around days onboard are not really a Relaxing atmosphere and the best you will get is somewhere a place to sit. Pools often are closed for cleaning and they are doing a lot of cleaning on the pool deck as well. Same goes for many of the Lounges and Services onboard are very limited. I would look into a day room at one of the Hotels. There are a lot of Budget Hotels in Southampton and you might be able to score a more comfortable place in the privacy of a Hotel room for the day. A couple of hours can be spent in Southampton By visiting the City Center and the Shopping mall.

peterdoyle33 Posted July 18, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted July 18, 2016 Hi folks. Thanks for all your feedback. We are flying home from Southampton at 18.20. Unfortunately Flybe changed their schedule in the last couple of weeks, we were originally due to be flying back to Dublin around lunchtime. The stay awhile program is definately available on this cruise as it is available to book in the cruise planner @€35 euro per person. will look into a day room at one of the hotels as an alternative option. Either way we dont fancy having 7-8 hours to kill in Southampton with nowhere to go so its just trying to figure out the best option. Thanks again for all your thoughts:)
lucymorgan Posted July 18, 2016 #19 Share Posted July 18, 2016 (edited) Southampton seems interesting to us! I guess it is all a matter of perspective! We've hired a car for the day before our cruise to explore and fellow cruisers have recommended Lymington, Burley and Lyndhurst as lovely places which can all be done in a day. Other recommendations were Portsmouth historic dockyard, West quay (easy to walk to for shopping) and the New Forest (with its wild ponies). If you hired a car (walking distance from the dock) you could store your luggage in the boot and perhaps drop the car off at the airport. sky0000547 Posted July 18, 2016 #20 Share Posted July 18, 2016 I don't think I will be able to be totally relaxed with no access to the cabin and having carry on's with me. Similarly I'm not totally relaxed on boarding day prior to cabins opening. You can either get a day hotel room or perhaps rent a car to use as luggage storage and also for going places. Enjoy your cruise and I will see you onboard ;)
peterdoyle33 Posted July 18, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted July 18, 2016 I will talk to the boss/wife and see what she thinks:) Might look at renting a car, although we will probably need to be in the airport shortly after 4pm so not sure if it will be worth it, but thanks again for the tips! We will see you on board sky0000547 ;)
