Woman overboard on Carnival Ecstasy

I was on the Liberty in May when the passenger went "missing" and they sent us to our rooms while they searched for her. It was a horrible experience and to this day, we still don't know exactly what happened. They eventually saw on the video that she fell backwards off the railing, but she had to climb up to it using one of the light fixtures on the side of the railing to get there. I saw a lot of strange things happen the next couple of days within the security crew and guest that I saw her with that night at the Casino Bar. So I think there was more to it than we were told.

I can tell you this....It effected me more than I thought it would.

Going on another cruise in 10 days but with hesitation and not on the Liberty again.

There should be and is compassion for the family, it is a terrible way to go.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I will have no problem cruising again, but I know I will think of Rina (although as the small girl I remember her as) when we return from Nassau in November :(

Please don't jump to conclusions. She could have been drunk, slipped something in her drink, showing off, mentally ill, pushed. We don't know and probably never will.

I agree with your post. So many started saying suicide and did anyone know the reason at the time? Once on the Oasis teen girls were sitting up on the railing at the back of the ship above the diving show. I immediately went to find security. It gives me chills thinking about it now. Sorry to hear your connection to the gal and prayers for comfort to all affected.

Actually, suicide is desperation and blindness. Experiencing a pain you see no escape from and a blindness to any value you have on this earth. Depression knows no bounds and if you have not walked through that valley yourself or with someone you dearly love, you really have no idea.

Well said.

I was on this cruise...just returned today to Charleston. It was very sad and Carnival handled it very well. The cruiser director, Benjamin, was probably the nicest and most compassionate person.

Tuesday night we left Nassau around 5:00...Wednesday morning at 2:47 ...Man Overboard came across the entire ship, including staterooms. They said it very loud and repeated it 4 times. Alittle while later Benjamin came on and said we will be going in large circles around the area where she went over. We went outside and saw a helicopter and a few smaller boats. Also, the ship had spot lights searching the water. We continued to circle till 9:30 until the coast guard released the ship to continue to Charleston. At this time we were 7 hours behind schedule and we arrived in Charleston this morning 1/2 hour later than planned. It was amazing.

The whole situation was very sad and SO MANY rumors were going around the ship...she fell, she jumped, she was pushed??? Whatever happened it was/is very sad and I feel very bad for the family that was traveling with her and the family at home.

Thank you so much, so nice to know Carnival cares and had the right hearts on the ship to make passengers feel that way..

I dream of trying several ships in all the lines..LOL. For sure more on Carnival...lol.

I know a sweet few here who are well earned luxury travelers and always make nice remarks and enjoy Carnival's trip reports as much as any other.

I would imagine no level is immune to this and statistics show no mater what level the same percentage of these kinds of problems from mass market to luxury level. No economic level is a strangers to this kind of problem.... Just smaller numbers of people due to smaller number of passengers a year. Thanks for your report. Welcome home. I have my eye on this exact cruise.

We will think of you too on your next cruise..and I am sure your good thoughts have helped in more ways than we can know..nice to have a name to pray for.

So many people with deep sensitivity, sounds like Cruise Director was wonderful. Good thoughts:(:o.

Those of us who *have* walked that valley understand your explanation, and we thank you for trying to educate those who haven't.
