Splendor

Me and my husband sailed on the Splendor from Dec. 10-18....we had a BLAST. Food was great (believe the hype about Tandoor...I ate there almost every day for lunch!) All of the staff were so nice and there was ALWAYS someone cleaning something throughout the day. The ship is very clean. We did YTD and never had to wait...we were in and out of the dining room in an hour every time. MarQ was our cruise director and I enjoyed him....some other people on the ship did not. At one Dive-In Movie they paused the movie for an announcement he gave and one woman said, "Oh my gosh shut up! He is SO annoying!" (Very rude but it did make me laugh...I can't even lie LOL) We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and are planning to take another cruise on the Splendor. Also, yes the ship is pink. I'm a girly girl so I didn't mind it but I still did not find it to be tacky/over the top. You're not there to stare at the walls, you're there to have a good time! You will have a great trip! :)

We sailed on the Splendor in late October - here is my take on her:

Food, décor, service, shows, entertainment - all very good to excellent. No complaints or issues with any of these.

BUT - while we had an awesome aft wrap cabin, the hot water never worked. They had to send a plumber/engineer 4 times in 5 days before they got it fixed correctly. Getting ready for dinner, never able to take a hot shower, always had to wait for someone to fix it!

BUT - the layout of the Lido deck left much to be desired just in my opinion. One of our favorite things is the evening Dive In Movies. We were never able to find a seat, except one evening directly in front of the doors that opened and closed every few seconds blasting us with frigid air conditioning.

BUT - the crowd on our particular sailing......large, loud, and very rambunctious. In fact three physical altercations during the week - 2 of them with women. Pushy, rude and very self-entitled people.

Sadly, these three things did indeed make us feel as though our vacation was less than stellar. Normally, nothing bothers me and I enjoy the heck out of each day of our cruises. But this one had just enough negatives to keep me from sailing on the Splendor again.

Please note - this is just my opinion and experience (though my husband, brother and sister-in-law feel the same). You and many others will have and have had wonderful times!

Please tell me that I didn't make a mistake in booking on this ship? I just finished reading at least 7 pages on this site of nothing but negative reviews. The timing and itinerary are what I was looking for most which is why I choose the Splendor but it seems that everyone that has gone, has nothing but bad

Things to say about every aspect of the cruise. Did anyone enjoy it?

Splendor is one of my favorite ships!

Just home from 8 days on Splendor. Had a great time on ports and onboard. Our room steward not as good as one on Sunshine in April, we hardly ever saw him. Our fridge broken and two days later gave us an ice chest not a fixed fridge. Had some room theft from our room and our son next door which is pretty stupid as only certain people have access am going to complain by phone. Son reported it and one of their souvenirs broken and Guest Serviceaughed it off, which is not acceptable. But these are personality matters not fault of ship or itinerary. Food was great as usual.

LOL, we were on the same cruise as you. (had a great aft wrap too). We had no complaints about our cruise at all. Didn't notice anything bad about the other passengers or bad behavior. That was my second cruise on SPlendor and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

I find it crazy that people wouldn't cruise a certain ship again because of the "crowd" and because something like hot water didn't work. Yes, I would complain about the hot water but that could happen on any ship, same as the crowd. I would bet that if they went again it would be a totally different experience.

With so many choices for cruise ships, I can completely understand why one ship would be removed from the list.

All I'm saying is you can get a bad/good experience on any ship. You could go on the same one 10 times and the experience would be different every time. If the price/itinerary was right I wouldn't rule out any ship regardless of past experience.

We have been on the Splendor twice, once from Long Beach in 2010 and San Juan to Miami in 2014. Had a great time each trip, in fact our best cruise to date was the San Juan cruise. You will have a wonderful time!! We even booked the Splendor from Miami to Long Beach in Jan 2018. Have a great time.

I don't know what you have read, but my husband and I spent 8 weeks on her earlier this year, right up to drydock in March. I loved everything about her. Food was very good. Entertainment was very good. The crew was absolutely tops in my book.

I know there have been some changes after drydock; ie, cruise director, hotel director, entertainment, but I loved our time on her and would book again.

The layout of this ship, with the big screen under the retractable roof, is my favorite.

Your cruise is what you make of it.

Go with an open mind and enjoy.

We must have been at the wrong place/wrong time because we personally saw 2 of the three physical altercations....

But as everyone says, one person's experience is different from another person's experience.

We would not sail Splendor again - but I would go on Paradise or Conquest in a heartbeat...just my experience/opinion.

Just sailed the Splendor last month. I'll admit, it was my least favorite ship. There were 14 of us and we always make a good time of it regardless but we were underwhelmed.

While our assistant waiters were excellent and did their best, their lead seemed to be in a constant state of herding cats so they often seemed discombobulated.

The Lido- I absolutely hate the design. It felt very closed in to me and if the roof was closed, it seemed downright humid and stuffy. On the upper deck looking over, the roof just got in the way. I prefer the more open deck layout of the other ships, but that's all personal preference.

The other major complaint was the casino. The filtration was AWFUL. I'm a smoker and it bothered me most nights (I fixed my tolerance for it with a few appletinis :D) But, quite a few members of our party just wouldn't even stay in there it was so bad. Our cabin was on deck 6 midship and you could smell the smoke in the elevator lobby up on that floor.

The decor didn't bother me one way or the other. There's fried eggs on the ceiling in the gold pearl dining room and strawberry covered donuts on the elevator doors. It was just tacky enough to be funny.

We found a fantastic deck waitress named Shinattra on our last day and we wish we'd found her the first day. She was a doll and would have made a lot of $ on us. Find her, love her, tip her well.

Your cruise will be what you make of it. Go. Make it a great time

Ship is in great shape for her age. It did not get the newer bars and restaurants during last dry dock, but plenty of places to eat and drink. Crew was awesome, very friendly. We will be back on Splendor in June with a bunch of family.

Fun "old school" ship.

I am SO glad this was posted, I read threw the reviews also, and was starting to freak out, I work in the automotive industry so I understand the grain of salt reviews can be, especially since a lot of people only like to complain instead of point out the positives, this is my first cruise with my Husband (We are going May 21!!), so I am nervous as to how it will all work anyways and then the reviews freaked me out also. lol THANK YOU!

I suggest stop reading reviews. Will only make you go

crazy and small disappoints can ruin a cruise. Its your first. you have nothing to compare it to. Stop reading reviews and form your own opinion
