funship222 Posted January 8, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 8, 2017 It can add up quick if there are multiple shots in a drink so be careful. Luckily it makes up for it towards the end of the trip because of the carryover per day. You can have a high balance on the last few day and enjoy! luvtovaca Posted January 8, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 8, 2017 I had found out on these boards that the Steakhouse Bar had a scotch or brandy or something that was in the $25 range, so we went there one night, just for the bar, not to eat (well 2 nights actually as the first night they made DH and DS leave since they were in shorts). Anyhow we told the bartender our plan and she said the most $$ she had that was permitted under Cheers was Hennessey and Hennessey XO at $14.95 a piece. So we each chose one, drank them and left. Had I been able to convince the men on the family to wear their dinner pants every night pre or post dinner and not just TO dinner, we would have gone more often and definitely gotten our $ worth LOL! Most of the drinks at Alchemy come close though, being in the $11.95 to $12.95 range. We are not big whiskey, scotch or cognac drinkers anyway and with the bottles of water, shakes and vitamin waters we consumed plus the alcoholic drinks we surely came close to breaking even. (Afraid to actually add it up!) We like the flexibility of trying things and not worrying about it if we didn't like it and got something else. Are you saying that if you don't consume 15 one day the rest carry to the next day? If so, you are incorrect. I have done cheers a few times now and you just start over with another 15 at 6 am the next day

Salem615 Posted January 13, 2017 #31 Share Posted January 13, 2017 I'm still debating on doing this package. I have gift cards but if i wait to use them on the ship the price is higher. Also I just don't know if I will drink enough to justify the cost.
cloudninecat Posted January 13, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 13, 2017 do the drinks with more then 1 oz of alcohol like some in the alchemy bar count as more then one drink towards your 15/day total? They only count as one drink.

If it's not, you won't and you're better off just paying as you go.

cmichael1279 Posted January 13, 2017 #36 Share Posted January 13, 2017 People have said you can purchase it on the ship with gift cards for the online price. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I emailed Carnival, they confirmed you can pay online with gift cards and get the pre-purchase price. You have to have enough gifts cards to cover the entire Cheers! cost. I'd suggest emailing them and then printing the email out and taking it with you on board, just in case you have any issues. We plan on doing this in two weeks on Magic, will report back if there are any issues!
CruzCrazy Posted January 13, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 13, 2017 People have said you can purchase it on the ship with gift cards for the online price. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I e-mailed Carnival and got a written reply that says you CAN buy the Cheers package on the ship at the pre-purchase price, so I'm printing out the e-mail to take with me for verification purposes. It's their way of accommodating those of us who want to buy in advance to save $ but can't because their website isn't set up to take the gift cards for Cheers (currently, anyway). They say all you have to do is put the gift cards on your account, go to one of the bars that sells Cheers, and tell them you want to buy it with your gift cards on your account, and they are supposed to give you the discount. I copied and pasted the e-mail reply from guest solutions here: 11/4/16 Hello Lisa, I Hope your day is going well. Yes, you can purchase the Cheers program on board at the pre-cruise price using gift cards. The bar staff are well aware of this and there should be no problem with your purchase. Just be sure to mention it to them when you do purchase it. The crew of the Magic look forward to welcoming your on board. Have a great cruise! skidawg79 Posted January 13, 2017 #39 Share Posted January 13, 2017 From what I've found they upgraded cheers to include anything by the drink under 50$ is this still current? What is this drink that would be close to $50? I'm intrigued. I was doing shots of some tequila that was like $26/shot on my last cruise. I can't for the life of me remember what it was (guess I did too many) lol. But Im not sure what is more than that.
Salem615 Posted January 13, 2017 #40 Share Posted January 13, 2017 How many drinks do you usually have per day on a cruise? If it's more than 6, you will get your money's worth. If it's not, you won't and you're better off just paying as you go. It would depend on the day I guess. I am not a huge drinker. Usually I like a few Pina Coladas and maybe try a few different drinks of the day. Sometimes a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa in the morning. Wine at dinner sometimes. My husband usually drinks beer and occasionally likes to try something different.
skidawg79 Posted January 13, 2017 #41 Share Posted January 13, 2017 If you order doubles, and you get to 14 (first of all you are probably feeling pretty good...7 doubles). Don't order that 15th drink on the cheers because they will cut you off. No drinks, even if you offer to pay for them after 15. So tell them your paying for a drink for someone else and they won't use your cheers and won't cut you off. It ends up costing more, but if your someone who really likes to drink, I'm guessing that extra $8-10 isn't going to kill you lol.

Sent from my iPad using Forums Overheard a group on the Miracle making fun of their friend because he hit the 15 limit and were cut-off... At 10am! Unless you're approaching it as a drinking challenge, it's hard to casually drink your way to 15. Only did that once (or twice, but who's counting :P). BTW - Alchemy makes Cheers a great deal. Also, for non-Cheers, best deal for beer by the pool: Ask for a Fosters can in a bucket of ice. :D

Luckily it makes up for it towards the end of the trip because of the carryover per day. You can have a high balance on the last few day and enjoy! 100% FALSE! There is no carry-over, just up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hr period (6a-6a). My son on our last cruise got up st 5:30am on debarkation day so he could have 1 last spiked coffee. That being said, some people have gotten beers (unopened on request) & taken to their room for use when they hit subsequent limits or to take off the ship in ports. They didn't want to leave any drinks 'on the table' As far as frozen boat drinks, either look for those with multiple liquors in it and/or ask for a separate shot after 5 min. However, in my experience, we find a favorite bar & bartender, and ALWAYS put down a$1 bill along w/my S&S card. My drinks were always fast & strong. After a day or so, the bartender would head our way immediately after she saw us, even with a full bar. Well worth it in our eyes. We were always able to get 2-3 glasses of wine w/dinner. sailingsusie Posted January 14, 2017 #46 Share Posted January 14, 2017 We purchased cheers on our last cruise. It was great, no surprises at the end. We normally casually drink thru out the day, I never hit 15 booze drinks, my husband did on the last sea day, he stayed up late in the casino, they did let him go over 3 or 4 drinks but eventually did cut him off...(he needed to be)..he was suffering the next day, debarkation was not fun for him :p I really enjoyed just being able to drink milkshakes, pop etc We usually purchase 6pks of Coke/Sprite for our room, but now we will not, we can just get a glass of pop and take it back. RedBeard78 Posted January 14, 2017 #47 Share Posted January 14, 2017 We skipped Cheers on our last cruise because we love cocktails from the Alchemy Bar and they were over the price limit. Now that the price point is MUCH higher, we're going for it on our cruise next month. I wish Alchemy was on every ship. That's where I used my Cheers package the most. Such good drinks. Also, those bartenders are usually REALLY GOOD. I would ask them to make me whatever drink they would drink if they weren't on duty, make me their newest drink they learned, or just make me whatever they thought I would like from my past purchases. I was always pleased with what they made.
nickel1522 Posted January 15, 2017 #48 Share Posted January 15, 2017 (edited) We got Cheers this past October and it was our second time. Never again...it's just not worth it in the end. My husband was able to break even but I don't drink soda and did not like the milkshakes, and even though I tried I felt like I HAD to drink. Not to mention it's hard to get drinks in on port days. This next cruise we are simply budgeting money to the side as we have done before also. I think if both parties like to try a lot of different drinks and/or drink a lot, it's great, but I felt way too forced to break even every day and now that my husband and I know what we like to drink it's easier just to budget! mluirette Posted January 27, 2017 #49 Share Posted January 27, 2017 I'd like to know this as well... I order Long Islands (typically 4-5oz in a 16oz cup) by the pool and they only count as one drink. Some quirky rules to remember: - No doubles - One drink at a time with at least 5min between (shot+chaser takes some pre-planning) - If you manage to get to drink 14 (oops, how'd that happen?) and would like to purchase a few later on, buy your next drinks "for a friend" because at 15 the system will lock you out of ALL alcohol orders (bartender cannot override this, so can't tip your way around the rules either!). - If you earned free drinks in the casino, I noticed it doesn't always count in your drink total for Cheers - not sure what triggers that and why not always the case. Cheers!
