Keeping a suite a surprise passed check in

This next cruise will be the first time we've sailed in a suite and I want to surprise my husband. I can't remember if at check in they confirm your cabin category? After all the cruises I've been on you would think I would remember. Is it possible to keep this a surprise until we reach the cabin?

your luggage tags will probably say 'suite'

If he's anything like my hubby, he won't even NOTICE the card color. They don't really mention what kind of cabin you're in....I mean, they aren't going to say, " OH my....you are booked in a wonderful GS!"....they will just say "Welcome aboard"...that's all.

Now, our JS's have always had "suite" on the luggage tags...the "work around" is to just get tags from the porter. They will write your cabin NUMBER on the tag...not the type of cabin.

We're in a junior suite. We just get our tags from the porter and no, my husband won't remember what color the Sea Pass card will be. I couldn't remember if they confirm the cabin category and number when they take your credit card and hand you the Sea Pass or just say" Welcome back, I see you are Diamond members." I did this once to him at the Bellagio in a Penthouse Suite with limo pickup at the airport. The look of dumbfoundedness (?) on his face was priceless.

The terminal personnel will look at your SetSail pass and say "Oh suite, right this way". You will also be sitting in the suite waiting area.

Thanks, I didn't even think about sitting in the suite area. Oh well, I guess that's where the surprise begins.

Maybe, maybe not. When we sailed in a Suite on Harmony, it was our first time in a Suite. Walked into the terminal and the first dunce directed us to the regular line. My wife questioned if there was a special line, the dunce said no. We walked back outside and asked someone out there and they escorted us to the Suite entrance.

So you might be able to keep the charade going to and thru boarding.

Maybe you keep the SetSail passes you print at home and just have a slip of paper on top that says "Please direct us to the regular line - trying to keep the suite a surprise!"

I surprised my husband with the giant Royal Suite a couple of years back. He does not want to handle any of the arrangements so it was not too hard to surprise him. When we got to the double door entry he asked if I was sure. I really enjoyed it. :D:D:D:D:D

I surprised my husband on Christmas ...we are sailing the HOS at end of February.. and upgraded to a Junior Suite ...his Christmas present consisted in opening in order 1. A cruise ship ornament ..#2 a box of JUNIOR mints & #3 a box of SWEETtarts ... it took him a while but finally figured it out [emoji848][emoji41]

Thanks guys, these are all great tips. I like the idea of writing on our Set Sail Pass to alert the person at check in. I'm even paying for this on my credit card so that he won't see the total come out of the checking account and question it.

Great surprise nonetheless! I am doing the same for DW on our April cruise. She may be expecting a JS but this cruise may put the WOW! back in the game for sure as we will be in a Crown Loft Suite.

Enjoy your cruise!

Perhaps you might want to tell him you booked a Junior Suite? The larger suite would be the surprise and if he hears "suite" then he might think nothing about it.

I love surprises! I upgraded my dad once, but while he was doing his online check in he called and asked why we were on a different deck... This time around I'm surprising my boyfriend, he hasn't got a clue!! Even if he finds out at check in, it will still be a great moment!
