drychi Posted February 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2017 My wife and I are interested in a trans-Atlantic on QM2 on October 25, 2018. Am considering Cabin 11081 for our first Cunard cruise upon recommendation of travel agent. It is located underneath a small bar in the corner of the pool on deck 12. Anyone have any feedback on this Cabin choice? Thanks. Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda Sent from my iPad using Forums
cruiseluvva Posted February 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Personally, we always try and choose a cabin with cabins above and below, but if that isn't possible, it could be worse as that bar doesn't open too early. There is sometimes live music in that area during the day, so you might possibly be disturbed if you want a rest at some stage when they're playing. drychi Posted February 17, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Cruiseluvva thanks for your insights. Do you recall if the live music was after 8:00 p.m.? Sent from my iPad using Forums
Classiccruiser777 Posted February 17, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2017 If the ocean is stirring, low and in the middle of the ship is the best cabin.
bluemarble Posted February 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Cruiseluvva thanks for your insights. Do you recall if the live music was after 8:00 p.m.? Sent from my iPad using Forums I trust cruiseluvva won't mind too much if I contribute to answering your question. As far as I know, the only regularly scheduled live music in the Pavilion Pool area are the "Poolside Music" performances held shortly after the noon hour. To be more precise, those performances are usually from 12:30pm to 1:30pm except during eastbound crossings on days when the clock is advanced an hour at noon. Then those performances are from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. The only other situation I am aware of is when sailaway parties on embarkation day are moved indoors to the Pavilion Pool area because of inclement weather. Those musical performances are typically about an hour long beginning at departure time. For a transatlantic crossing, the music for the sailaway party should be finished well before 8:00pm. tv24 Posted February 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Blue marble is correct. That area is completely quiet at night, almost dead. It's an indoor pool that attracts folks during the day, swimmers, loungers, ping-pong players. By sundown there is no one around.
drychi Posted February 17, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Thanks for your information. We have decided to take the TA's recommendation. Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda Sent from my iPad using Forums
BlueRiband Posted February 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2017 Pools and hot tubs are covered over by about 8PM when second sitting for dinner has started. As others have pointed out it's dead up there except for a few passing through. You'll have no issue with overhead noise.
Rare Solent Richard Posted February 17, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 17, 2017 The one factor that appears to have been missed is the fact that when sea states permit the Pavilion Pool is open for early morning bathers, possibly moving furniture, etc. You pays yer money.... SPacificbound Posted February 18, 2017 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2017 When picking a cabin it is always a good idea to look at deck plans. They are easy to find. http://booking.cunard.com/cu/QM_deck_plans.pdf Like cruiseluvva I always pick a cabin with cabin decks above and below,
happydays42 Posted February 18, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2017 We were in 11005 for 26 days. OK more forward than 11081, but l found the benefits exceptional. Just a very short and easy stroll to the forward observation area. The barely used exterior lift goes direct to the Commodore Club and Deck 7. I alwAys found it quiet, as the Ships Senior Officers are just down the hall. Very close to a laundry, which from where we were was devoid of commotion. No drama whatsoever with any weather!! Great sailing! Sent from my iPad using Forums
DaddyWarbucks Posted February 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Another consideration for a high deck on a transatlantic crossing is that you are well above the center of gravity. While there are stabilizers to assist with any rolling of the ship, any pitching will be amplified in the higher decks.
DWhit Posted February 20, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 20, 2017 We had a crossing in October a few years ago. Weather was such that outside activities on deck were minimal. We had a a cabin on deck 11 and did not ever notice any noise from above. Have a great trip! Sent from my iPad using Forums
_kerry_ Posted February 23, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 23, 2017 We had the cabin next door a few years ago. No problem at all. Convenient location. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Cancun01 Posted February 24, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) If the ocean is stirring, low and in the middle of the ship is the best cabin. I second this. We would not book a cabin on the higher decks on TA in October. If the weather cooperates great but if not....last October it was cool but smooth.
