Wow, those photos are amazing. So, you were able to see all of that from your balcony ? We are going to book a Panama cruise within the next week or so. I know we would need to be able to sit to watch and retreat to cool air, too so I'm glad you mentioned not trying to fight the crowd and the heat by being out on deck.

Looking forward to the rest of the review. We used to live in upstate NY near several locks of the Erie Canal. We would often take our children to watch boats go through those locks. Of course, we had to sing about, "the ol' mule named Sal." LOL No comparison to the Panama !

Where did you live? I'm in medina, about halfway between Rochester and Buffalo

Hi, y'all! Loving the great pictures and your nice review! We're looking forward to doing a partial transit again next year. We really enjoy your explanations of the lock process.

Hope to meet y'all again on another cruise!

I fnally got caught up on your review. I must say you have some awesome pictures. I am so ready to cruise the Pride again. My DH has put me on "cruise control". He says if we ever want to retire I must control myself and hold back on the cruising until then. I don't know how I am going to do this since I read your review! We have 4 years to go and not sure I can wait that long to go on a journey cruise, espeically one that visits the Panama Canal. Can't wait to read the rest.

This is amazing. Never did quite fully understand the Canal and all that goes into it. thanks so much for the pictures and detailed explanations of what's going on. Incredible!

We stayed on our balcony all day. We only came inside to eat lunch and cool off. :)

Oh gosh, this is so interesting to read and see pictures of! I really want to do a Canal transit now. Thank you for sharing this with us. It looks like it would have been awesome to see first-hand from your balcony.

Glad to have you along for the ride!! I'm sure your turn will come! :)

Add me to the list of peeps who didn't really understand the locks and all that is involved. Amazing! Thank you so much for this review!!

Thanks for reading!! We learned a lot about the Panama Canal this cruise. It helped that they had an expert give a "play by play" description of what was going on as we proceeded through the locks. They broadcast it over the loudspeakers and on the cabin televisions.

Thanks so much for all the work you and Patti put into posting your review. It's been keeping me very happy, and anxious to get back on the Pride in May (sailed to Canada in October, thanks to Hurricane Matthew).

One question after reading another post - does the Pride have the slot that needs a card inserted to work the electrical outlets in your cabin? Since we were just on her in October, I don't think so, but I am curious if anything has changed.

Joe--go with a moscato. She will love it. Light sweet wine.

I would second this also! We bought the 5 bottle package on our last cruise, and got 5 bottles of the Moscato that they offer. Very delicious, and I hate a dry wine.

Thanks for coming along for the ride! Don't worry, you don't need to put a card in a slot to work the lights. :D

I'm loving this review! We're looking at doing a similar cruise in 2018. Keep up the great work!

Glad you are enjoying the review, Thanks for reading. :)

Ahhhhh, and here I have built you up in my mind to be "all knowing" and figured that you were born with this knowledge ;p

Seriously though, I was planning to research whether or not they would have discussions/lectures/announced info about the locks/canal and what is going on either before or while it is happening. Thanks for saving me that research. We are close to choosing which Panama Canal cruise we are doing in 2018 and this is most helpful in confirming that this is what we want to do!

As the Carnival Pride slowly makes her way into the lower lock, we get a closer look at the roadway that crosses the canal…..

We see an armed guard escorting some photographers across the closed gate…..

They are three of our ship’s photographers. We wonder when they left the ship…..

IMG_1765-XL.jpg

As we slide by, they begin taking pictures of the passengers that are on their balconies…..

It looks like he’s pointing his camera at us!
