We will be on the Sky next March- Venice to Rome.

Is there a fix time for dinner like on their river cruises (7pm) and open seating? Or do you have an assigned table with flexible dining?

We are looking forward to our cruise on the Sky even more after reading your comments!

Also , are we able to sign up for excursions ahead- the ones that are automatically included ?

Thank you.

Welocme aboard!

Next step is to register on https://www.myvikingjourney.com/home/welcome because this is where you will go to book your shorex and dinner reservations and even before that to fill out your passenger information form (must be done before Viking Air will book your flights). There is a lot of information here about the cruise (but not which shorex will be offered on your sailing; that page isn't populated until about 4 months out).

The four dinner venues are open from 6pm to about 10pm. The MDR is open seating; when your party shows up, the head waiter will ask you a couple of questions and then escort you to a table. You may request a particular waiter or a table by the window or the HW may ask if you wish to share a table with parties unknown. Manfredi's and The Chef's Table require advanced reservations for the most part. According to your cabin category (DV and higher), you get a specific number of advanced reservations. Once on board, you may make additional reservations.

Advanced booking is highly recommended for all shorex. Again, according to your cabin category, booking opens x many days ahead of sailing. Definitely reserve in advance for the included tours.

Look on your Viking invoice. It will give you the date for when booking opens for shorex and dinner reservations. They are two different dates a week apart. Mark your calendar!

All in all, if you continue to follow the Viking Ocean forum over the next few month, by the time you are ready to book shorex and dinner, you should have a fairly good handle on how things work.

Sorry my last response was sent before I could make changes!

Thank you so much for all the great info.

We will check invoice for dates to book dinner and excursions.

I definitely will be back on this thread to ask for more input.

Happy cruising!

What we need is An Idiot's Guide to CC Boards for Dummies- type thing for how to use these Boards on our PCs, phones, tablets, etc--like how to edit, what all these icons createlink.gif, insertimage.gif, youtube.png are for, how to create a sig file, how to subscribe and unsubscribe to threads, the difference among the notifications --and so, so, much more.

Lol, what we need are devices that won't change our spelling because it likes a different word

FYI for you and others. You can still EDIT an existing post for a few minutes (15 or 20 minutes after posting).

If somebody has quoted your reply or simply posts a reply to the thread the edit window closes.

Re getting help on how to use this mobile app interface to the forum or the incredibly ancient interface in the web browser (reminds me of early days of the USENET in the late 90s/early 2k)) I have to say you'll be sorely disappointed. [emoji6] I've had to apply knowledge gathered from using other forums where the help is better. Then there's always the ever reliable 'try and see' method. [emoji2]

When composing a message, there is a light blue square at the right end of the top line of symbols, marked with two capital A's separated by a slash. If you click that, your draft will be shown in HTML format. HTML rules are easily findable on the internet, and you can party like it's 1990!

Not HTML, but BB coding. HTML won't work on the Cruise Critic boards or in your signature files any more. BB is similar looking to HTML but the commands are different.
