My View: First Semi-Live From Oasis - The Cruise that almost didn't happen!

Recommended Posts

If you happen to be near the Starbucks coffee bar, can you ask if they have decaf shots? Thanks! Have a great dinner tonight!

Hi, Ibjen! Unfortunately, we got off the ship on Sunday. I did get Starbucks the last morning, and it looked like they had the normal Starbucks drinks available. They also accepted payment with a Starbucks gift card, which was nice.

My view: Labadee... and sunrise from the diamond lounge:

They have many new features at Labadee. It seems like something new shows up between every one of our visits:

Adrenaline Beach used to be my favorite place, as it used to be quiet. Now, it seems to be the happening place with the floating bar:

It is always fun to watch ziplining:

My new favorite spot is Columbus Cove. It used to be very busy, but now seems to be calmer. To avoid the shopping village, I always walk through Nellies Beach, past the slide, to the Cove:

That could have been us... this is the excursion we had to cancel (although I would say chances are great the we can do this in November!):

The bathroom: Oasis class has fewer storage options in the room and bathroom, so I pack the over the door organizer:

Upon arrival, we saw this contraption on the door: Imagine our conspiracy theories, considering the recent thread about an "incident" on Oasis where some cabin door had apparently been locked with a padlock. (Theories were kept to ourselves for personal entertainment purposes only)

Come to find out - it is an assistive technology device for the hearing impaired. It was removed sometime during the week.

Since our muster station map is posted in the picture too, I will move on to the safety briefing: What a breath of fresh air! It was a bit of an unexpected change in the routine. Instead of the traditional "briefing", we had a humorous video of the evacuation procedures and rules. I did not think it took away from our ability to understand that an evacuation is a serious event, or that the rules are important. Rather, this humorous presentation helped my ability to focus on the information, as well as enjoy this necessary start of the cruise. I sure hope the "naysayers" don't ruin this WOW experience!

By the way: Our muster station is in the Aqua Theater.

Lol! I had that on my door! It is like a doorbell and it have another device inside that light up. Only problem, most people don't know how to use it. It is suppose to push the red button to light up. Twice before - I had it inside the room which defeat the purpose and finally this cruise they had it right except they did not press the red button! Lol!

The water taxi works for avoiding the shopping village as well. I think the drop-off was near the slide. Unfortunately, it's a one-way only option. We took the tram back, which stopped briefly in the village, but the venders lost interest quickly when no one got off. Will have to keep the walking route through Nellie's in mind for the future.

:D I exercised on previous cruises, and even packed my exercise gear this time. However, I never made it into my "running shoes" (which is more of a brisk walk for me). I did not even see the inside of the spa or gym... I guess I was in "sympathy recovery" mode from DH's surgery. At least that sounds like a good excuse to me.

My DH broke his collarbone 2 weeks before we sailed on Oasis, and had surgery to pin it back together 5 days later, so my excuse for not going to the gym on Oasis was very similar to yours. ;p

I'm glad to see the Aqua Theater show seemed better than it was when we sailed. That was the only show I was disappointed in. The performers just did not seem to have their act together. I thought it might have been a new cast, as we were on the first Oasis cruise out of Port Canaveral. They did a lot of practicing while we were on board, but even at the end of the week I thought they still needed work.

I loved your pictures from the ice show! They came out way better than most of mine did. I thought the ice show was excellent!

LOL! Well, they apparently need you to educate them :) Maybe you can get a summer job with Royal. Our device was inside the cabin...

Wow!! I learned something new today! I had no idea there was a water taxi! Is it for anyone to use? Does it leave from the parasail dock? I wonder why it is one way only. We tupically enjoy the walk, but I would like to take the water taxi to get a different perspective for photos...

Thanks, Nancy! I see you are booked on HAL next. I can never get a good deal there, as they do not cruise from FL in the summer, and holiday cruises are too expensive... I like trying all cruiselines and hope to try HAL sometime when we have a more flexible cruise schedule. :)

Wow...really loving your review. Thanks so much, and for sharing all your photos. Looks like you are all enjoying! I hope your husband is doing better.

Thank you! He is doing great. He even did stairs most of the week and is going back to work this afternoon.

Thank you for a great review and great pictures. A cruise on an Oasis class ship is on my wish list!

It is worth saving up for :)

It leaves from around the bend in the main dock and I didn't see any restrictions on use.

You can see it in this shot.
