Breakaway July 2 short review.

I was on the July 2 sailing of Breakaway. I have been on over 40 cruises over the past 30 years. I live in FL so cruising is easy. This was my second on NCL. I was in the Haven so I had a wonderful cruise. But when I was in the main part of the ship I was shocked at how crowded it was. Also, how rude the people were.

I have cruised MANY lines. I am not a snob when it comes to different lines. I have enjoyed every cruise I have ever been on. Just in the past 2 years I have been on RCL, Carnival, Princess, Oceania and now NCL. This cruise was a different crowd. I met many nice people. I also saw some shocking stuff. More shocking than spring break with my daughter on Carnival with her friends. LOL. This was adults behaving poorly. I think the ship needs to rethink their security and how they handle people.

I also could not believe the design of the ship. I am used to a casino being smoky. Not an open concept that makes the center of the ship an ashtray from the casino.

Dining- The lines to regular dining were always backed up. I have never had to wait for seating or food on a cruise even with reservations. This reason is why I had only cruised NCL once before. I think the freestyle dining needs to improve or be redesigned. Long waits just to eat is not standard on cruise ships.

The shows were excellent! The ship had great entertainment! The reservations system seemed to work fine. However, the SEATS in the showroom are a disaster! The most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in. They need replacing!!!!! NOW!!! The wood bar in the back hurts your spine and there is an incline forward since the seat is worn out. I understand waiting for drydock but the seats should have been replaced anyway before a drydock! Also, The magician on the last night needs to add an extra show. The showroom filled both shows 15 minutes before the start.

Overall I had a wonderful cruise. The problems are real NCL issues and need improvement.

This is very general, could you please elaborate on the above? I would be interested to learn how ship security can handle passengers' bad behavior. Do you mean more security or booting people off the ship?

When one passenger is bothering another passenger for no reason I believe security should step in and escort the problem passenger back to their room. Or deal with the drunk by taking him out of the situation and having a talk with him. Don't look on as other passengers are alarmed at a situation and feel the need to get out of the way just in case. I saw two incidents that should have been dealt with by removing the problem person. Not booting them off the ship! Just walk them away and tell them to go find something else to do.

Thanks for the info. Sounds reasonable.

I'm not sure what kind of training Security receives, but can they physically remove someone at their discretion? I would think there has to be some sort of safety issue before going that far. They can certainly step in and try to calm the situation though, which apparently didn't happen in the situations you describe.

Looking at NCL's Guest Conduct Policy https://www.ncl.com/faq/guest-conduct-policy , which includes inappropriate, discourteous, abusive, & disruptive behavior (among other things):

FAILURE TO ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS POLICY MAY RESULT IN:

  • Intervention by Security, other management personnel or law enforcement
  • Removal of certain onboard privileges, which may include being detained, quarantined or confinement
  • Confiscation of illegal/contraband/prohibited items (may be turned over to law enforcement authorities) and used for prosecution
  • Denial of boarding on the current or any future Norwegian Cruise Line cruise vacation
  • Reporting of incidents to government and law enforcement authorities for follow-on legal action
  • Removal from ship at the next port-of-call. Guests removed from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship pursuant to this policy, are responsible. Documentation requirements for re-entry into the guest’s home country are also the responsibility of the guest.
