dongordon Posted August 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2017 I have been on the Breakaway a few times and I am planning to take a cruise on the Escape in 2019 when it arrives in NYC. What are the differences in the two ships or are they basically the same? Don
Dajbman22 Posted August 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2017 Escape is slightly larger version of the Breakaway/Getaway with a few more public spaces/venues on decks 7 & 8 mostly and some slightly different themed bars and specialty restaurants. The most notable additions on the Escape are the Food Republic specialty dining and the District Brewhouse (which is a huge plus if you're a craft beer drinker, none of the smaller ships have a venue with a decent tap list). It also has a 5 O'Clock Somewhere bar completely separate (many decks down) from the Margaritaville if you're looking for the special cocktails without having to deal with the restrictive hours of M-ville. jamkam97 Posted August 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2017 There also is no rock wall on the Escape where there is on the Breakaway/Getaway. This ended up being the deal breaker for us when rebooking, we've been on Getaway and while Breakaway is practically it's twin with different colours, my daughter freaked out on the ropes and we wanted to ensure she had a choice. Snow Room on Escape VS Ice Bar on Breakaway/Getaway. Escape has two planks on the ropes course Breakaway & Getawa only one. I don't know if the Escape has the Spider Mountain and Bounce ? but that might be a difference too. Entertainment and dining as PP mentioned. thatjoeguy Posted August 22, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Escape also has the Cellars and Tapas place, as well as day care for under 3s.
mkmaj Posted August 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Thanks for posting this. I'm looking for the same information as we sailed BA this year and are booking Escape for next! Is there any more space in the Atrium on the Escape? Any links to current menus? The familiar standbys seem to have old menus. Although I would like to see a different pool arrangement, I'm excited to see that the deck above pool level seems to have more space and a better layout. Does it seem less congested up there? Any tips from those who've been on both?
Tammyd549 Posted August 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Also wondering how the spa compares to BA/GA, if anyone knows?
davy jones Posted August 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Three questions about the Escape vs. Breakaway 1. Is there still only one pool for the regular passengers? 2. Was the casino redesigned so that smoke does not drift into the Atrium? 3. Does it feel as "crowded" as many report about the Breakaway?
Two Wheels Only Posted August 22, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2017 1. Is there still only one pool for the regular passengers? For both Escape and Breakaway, there are 2 pools that are open for all adults. There is 1 pool for families (not counting the little toddler wading area) and one pool for adults during the day. LrgPizza Posted August 22, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2017 Some others not mentioned: The standard balconies are larger on Escape than Breakaway The ropes course on Escape is double-level vs. single on Breakaway Haven on Escape has 3 stories instead of 2 There are cantilevered hot tubs on Escape (hang off the side of the ship)
DaisyL Posted August 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2017 We liked the shaded, quiet seating outside on BA, deck 8. How does this compare on Escape? We honestly did not like the BA (Jewel class is our favorite) but willing to try the Escape. We just got booked for Bermuda 2018... Yeah. When I sailed Escape, there was no smoking allowed on the Waterfront, even though there is on one side on Breakaway. I don't know if that is still the case. I don't know if the Escape has the Spider Mountain and Bounce ? but that might be a difference too. Entertainment and dining as PP mentioned. The ropes course on Escape is also much larger than the ones on Getaway/Breakaway. There is a third level that opens when it's not too windy. There's also another zip line that swings you slightly out over the ocean. The "kiddie" ropes course that is two feet off the ground for kids 48" and under is significantly larger on Escape than the Aways. As a result of the larger ropes courses, there is no Spider Climb and Bungee Trampoline on Escape. Nor is there a rock wall, as previously mentioned. The mini golf courses are comparable. Escape also had bocce, I don't recall there being bocce on Getaway. The gym in Escape is a bit larger and has a better layout than the one on Getaway. Neither have showers for free (non-spa) guests. Getaway had Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian and a sushi bar that was wonderful. Escape's restaurants are themed to Sweaty Jose Garces. There is a tapas bar in place of the sushi bar and his restaurant instead of Zakarian.
