Not a good royal Caribbean experience and our cruise has not started yet...

Recommended Posts

Just a little description of my self beforehand. Im a part time travel agent. I work from home and cater mostly to friends and family. My husband and I have not traveled since our honeymoon 4 years ago (we had 2 kids and no travel budget). We are booked on the Anthem of the seas in November.

First off, as travel agent, im suppose to have a special rate. I am currently on maternity leave and not working for the most part of 2017. I was denied any special rate because of not enough sale (in a way, Royal Caribbean is discouraging maternity leave)

Then a friends and family special arrived (that is exactly the special travel agent rate) but it was after a final payment) I called to see if there was something they could do and was answer by a very condescending manager making me feel really stupid to ask. Saying that it was my job and that I should know. (As if i am suppose to be a royal Caribbean specialist) I even asked to see If I could be just pay little more to have an upgrade since the balcony and oceanview was less expensive then what I had pay for my interior. She almost laughed at me.

And finally, after reading some comments about how the front of the ship was rocking, I called to see if they could change my cabin for another one in the exact same category but at the aft. They didn't even try and said no.

I really feel that we are not guest but annoyance to them. Once you have paid they just don't bother trying to please you. That is not what cruising is suppose to be. Even hotels are always trying to accommodate and please their guests. I was extremely nice on the phone and was answered with condescending tone that is giving me a bitter taste in my mouth and not as excited with my upcoming vacation anymore.

I'd call back. You should be able to change to any other available stateroom in the same exact category at any time, with no change in price.

Excuse me for not be as knowlegeable as you. If you would know me, you would know that I am far from spoiled. Maybe you should consider that not averybody as the same experience level as you. I had 2 kids in the last 4 years so I have not worked for some time. I made a choice to become a stay at home mom to be with my kids and cut my client base by half and still manage to have enough sale to getmy IATA card befor this year (I had baby a couple months ago) Ill be starting again my normal sales soon. Before that I was full time in a travel agency. I also went to travel school so no im not a fake travel agent just to have discount. Insinuating that is very rude. Cruising is far from popular from where I am. All inclusive is 99% of my sales. Its normal for me to not be an expert in that

I still am a client wathever my job is. I paid for this cruise. I dont know why you are attacking me for having an opinion. I havent slept in 6 months and I was looking forward to this.

I would ring back because you probably had more knowledge than the RC agent who obviously were clueless.

Another agent probably will be much better in advising you.

Personally i read a lot of reviews and the brochures to glean as much information as possible about individual ships.

Midships cabins are best followed by aft then forward and high floor cabins if you want a more stable cruise experience with less movement.

Also pick a cabin which has passenger cabins above and below so there is less chance of noise.

Yes. You made a choice. For every choice, there are benefits and costs. You have the benefit of two beautiful kids. I'm sorry it upsets you that the cost is not selling enough travel to qualify for agent rates. But, I don't see how that is Royal Caribbean's fault. As for it being "very rude" to insinuate that you are a fake travel agent just wanting the discounts, I would suggest you reread your own post. You specifically say you're very part-time and only book travel for friends and family. THEN you went on about how rude it is of RCCL to expect you to have SALES in order to give you an agent rate. And how rude it is of them to expect you to be an expert. I didn't have to insinuate anything. You pretty much made it look that way all by yourself. I don't feel I "attacked you for having an opinion." I feel that YOU attacked RCCL for not giving you exactly what you wanted when you wanted it. The one justified complaint you had was the inability to switch cabins, and I told you how to resolve that problem. I even told you what location to request to alleviate your fear of seasickness.

I would have thought a work from home TA job would be a perfect job for someone who has to stay at home to look after babies.

Maybe I was not clear about what gave me a bitter taste and Im sorry for this (english in not my first langage, I speak french)

The point about RCCL not treating me like a guest was about the way they made me feel stupid for asking. I would not have mind at all if someone would have explain to me kindly the reason why I was not able to get the rate even if at that time everybody were getting it. The manage was very condescending, In didnt even insist.

This was weeks ago, I let it go. Today when I called again, they seemed annoyed that I asked for a cabin changed. THats when i decided to post here. The other stuff was just more information I added.

Im going to take your advice and call back and ask to speak to someone else.

Because it's cruise critic and people enjoy bashing others for sport here. Don't be bothered by it. Sometimes, you reach out to communicate with others and they like to trash you and act like they know the details of your life and can therefore judge you. Someone will soon trash me for saying this, I'm sure. Call back and ask again to get your cabin changed. I did it successfully after final payment. Changed from an interior to a balcony.

Thank you so much for your kind words. You give me hope. Ill call back :)

It is, except when you are trying to make a business call with a toddler singing her lungs out and a crying baby lol. Thats why Ill wait a little To return fully. Doesnt pay a lot though.

Im canadian so that dont really apply to me. I dont really care that they were not able to accomodate me. Its the condescending tone that was uncalled for and left me sad. And since i wrote. Most of the reply have been condescending too and trying to make me feel like crap. Why are you all doing this.

First off, my post was tongue in cheek and not really directed towards you,as I had quoted another post. I'm sorry you are upset and had a bad experience. However most of said bad experience is because you are upset because you don't know the rules and expect Royal Caribbean to change them for you. My suggestion is that you chalk it up as a learning experience and not let it ruin your vacation.

I don't get how your maternity issues are a Royal Caribbean issue. You aren't a Royal employee, you are a self described part-time independent travel agent. Your maternity leave issues are your own, I don't think it's fair to put them on Royal.

The thing is I never said I didnt know the rules. I knew them. (I just didnt know they would make me feel stupid for asking. Being rude and condescending thats the problem I had. Sometimes they do give thing when asks nicely. So I just tried. Being answerd no with respect would have been enough.

If you find a cabin further back in your same category at the same rate, I would call back and see if you can change cabins. One rep may be more helpful than another. Ignore all the negative comments and just go after another cabin. If nothing is available at the same price/category I would recommend paying a little extra to upgrade if the cabin location is what you are seeking. Keep trying since cabins do become available for any number of reasons.

Good luck.

Ok I feel like I need to explain myself because I feel like some of the answers did not get the main point of my original post (maybe I added to much information and my sentences were off, like I said I speak french) I know the rules about getting the travel agent fare, you need to have a certain amount of sales in the last year(for the first time I dont have it) Thats why I was not able to get the discount. Its the rule I get it (the first line about RCCL and maternity leave was my frustration coming off after being denied the cabin change for the same category for no reason.

When I called the first time I knew the rules after final payment you cannot change for a new special fare. But It never cost to ask thats why I called and ask if I if I could get an upgrade since the balcony stateroom was now less. (before that I even came here on CC to see if people had done it and some did) Thats when the manager started her condescending rant about rules and That I should know that (I knew). Its not fair to make me feel stupid for asking. (as a client and as a TA)

The only thing I didnt knew before this year was the required sale amount for the IATA card (never had too because I always just got it) Thats my reason for calling out the maternity thing but maybe I should talk about an arrangement for maternity purposes with IATA and leave RCCL out of this.

So all the comments about me being bad at my job without knowing personally are really uncalled for and just mean. Being sad that I was answer badly one first time and then being denied something that everybody get (the room change for same category) Yes gave me a bad taste in my mouth about customer service and I think you all would have felt the same way. Thats the reason for the (annoyance vs guest)

I dont think its normal to insinuated things about a stranger that just came here to express an opinion about bad customer service.

STEPHIE07: Yes, definetly call back to request a change in stateroom location, as mentioned in the above two posts.

As you know, there are numerous websites that show what staterooms are still available. It helps if you give the RC sales agent the stateroom number you want. And if you do not get a satisfactory response, call back again. Good luck on your stateroom change, and have a great cruise.

You Loyal Royal slappies crack me up. When will you admit that they have gone so far down hill in the last 10 years that it is shameful. I just took my last cruise with them last month because of how bad they have become. The OP is spot on and the Loyals will never admit it. I give this post about 2 minutes before I’m lambasted by the Loyals and told not to come back. So predictable.

RC, IT department and CS regularly get called on here and if you had KISS everyone would be agreeing with you but again you are not the first or last who overstates a question and gets roasted for it.

So you don't specialize in cruises. This in of itself is not an issues. But the fact you don't do your homework on the Cruise industry and more specifically the cruise line w/ regards to a particular promo is what is telling. Bashing your supplier on a forum that supports the industry is pretty cray cray. Either toughen up and learn your industry or stick to all inclusive sales. Good luck. I'm out.

Hang on a minute.

You tried 3 Times requesting Royal break the rules for you and then in your original post you said more or less you were angry.

1. Asked for TA rate when you didn’t qualify.

2. Asked for a new posted rate after final payment.

3. Asked for cabin upgrade after final payment.

And yes, a good TA should have known the answers.

Your request to move your cabin to like cabin category should have been honored if cabins in that cat were available. Did you try to move in same category?

You didn't mention which deck you're on, but we sailed Anthem last year, in cabins 7124 and 7126 and loved it. Never felt more than a gentle rocking and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. In fact, we're booked in forward cabins on Adventure for next year.

Granted, we had smooth seas and a low deck, so mileage may vary with rough seas, especially on a higher deck. It's still not something I would spend a lot of time worrying about, though.

Enjoy your cruise.

To be fair, you weren't asking to pay as a guest, you were asking to pay as a professional who would market their product. When you do that, they are entitled to have certain requirements for you - that you are, in fact, selling their product, and that you are taking the time to be an expert on their product - that you take the time to know the rules and restrictions of certain promotions so that you don't misrepresent their product when (not if) you are selling it. Your conduct with them would lead them to think that you weren't being professional and as such, didn't qualify for the professional rate.
