New S&S procedures

I was on the Magic the end of Sept. out of Port Canaveral, and we received our S&S cards upon check in. We were able to proceed to guest services immediately upon boarding, and load our gift cards onto our account. If they start putting your S&S cards in the mailboxes, will you have to wait until 1:30 to retrieve them? I would think that would really cause a lot more congestion at the guest services desk later in the day.
Yes you have to wait to retrieve them. You use your boarding pass until then. So, you walk up to GS and give them your boarding pass. Easy

I know we cannot do anything about this since it seems to be new policy but it doesn't make sense to me at all???

IF the ship is our hotel then we should be given our "key" when we check in like at any hotel on land.

<sigh> Will just have to experience this on Splendor in March. We haven't run into it before on the ships we have already used.

we prefer to load ours with cash..this is still done at guest services???? we haven't cruised in a few years so a lot is new...we did get FTTF a few weeks ago...on the Magic..May 5

Yes, you can visit Guest Services onboard to put cash on your S&S account. With FTTF, even though you select a check-in time when you do your online check-in pre-cruise, you may check-in any time with FTTF up to 1 hour before the ship's sailing time.

No, just like a hotel, you will get your key when your room is ready.

Though those with general boarding will need to wait until between 1&2pm to get their S&S cards from their mailbox, there is no reason to wait to go to the GS desk to load cash or gift cards to your S&S account. Just like buying drinks before getting our card, you use your boarding pass at the GS desk. Though without the S&S card it will be harder or impossible to use the kiosk.

You can ask for your folio number at check in and use the kiosk!

There are dozens of threads regarding this change and ALL the questions about someone "taking" someone's card etc....do a search and start reading as there have been some good answers to these questions....;p

Really there is NO reason for hostile comments like this. Just move on if you don't like what someone else is doing

Wonder if the Splendor will continue doing this when she homeports in Long Beach.

If all ships are going to this procedure, I can't see them taking it away from the Splendor just because it's moving ports.

My question: If someone were to take the S&S Card out of the mailbox, wrote down the Cabin number, what security measures are in place? I think the persons last name would be asked.

Thanks.

If the try to use your card your picture appears so they cannot use it

I'm not sure where people get the idea that your card is swiped every time you use it and therefore your picture pops up. I'm just off the Victory (where they are using the new system without a single problem) where 9 out of 10 times they don't even take your card from you- they simply glance at it to get the folio number and that's it- this was true in the DR, the lido deck, the seafood shack and several bars including the casino bar. I think the only time your card is actually scanned is entering and leaving the ship.

In any case, the new system is great and the envelope is completely sealed and there is no need to for anyone to worry about it.

I don’t find this comment hostile at all, they are simply stating the facts.

I think it depends on the ship and how updated the systems are. The poolside bars on Fantasy and Freedom swiped my card and I saw my pic come up. In the MDR, they just got the number

Hasn’t happened on the Miracle out of Long Beach and can’t be done on the Inspiration or Imagination. Or, are they leaving them on the Fantasy Class desks?

The search threat isn't the greatest at times, so really no harm in someone asking again.

Many newbies plus maybe they don't have the time like some do.

It is much simpler to move on .

We normally purchase the Bottomless Bubbles as soon as we board the ship so how do they handle putting the sticker on your card if you do not have the card yet? We would be wanting to get a soda most likely before the card is available in the mailbox as we board early.

You use your boarding pass and the sticker situation is the same as before -when you have your card, take it to a bar and they will put the sticker on.

The sticker these days is more of a formality than a necessity. The computer handles all eligible packages transactions as 0 due, where in the past the bartender had to push extra buttons acknowledging a package was being used. (This all changed about the time they did away with drink tickets.)
