QABri Posted November 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2017 The port fees and taxes when I booked my cruise were $91 a person, but now it's $80. Any idea why? Also, can I get this difference refunded somehow?
qianabb Posted November 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2017 I don’t know why they change but it will be credited to your onboard account. Ours changed for our 11/11 sailing, and me and my husband both had a credit of $9.05 each. Free drink ! QABri Posted November 23, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted November 23, 2017 Excellent! I barely drink so that will cover my bar tab for the whole cruise!
easyboy Posted November 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2017 If difference not reflected on your onboard account, you can ask Guest Services. Better if you get a snapshot of the new fees on your phone. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

SadieN Posted November 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 23, 2017 Almost every cruise we get some sort of mystery OBC. It’s usually a refund of port fees. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

satxdiver Posted November 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2017 Port and tax fees are estimated when the cruise is first posted. If the fees turn out to be less, pax are refunded the amount of overage but if the fees go up, the cruise line absorbs the extra amount. Cruise lines do not like to lose money so they estimate it high to make sure and refund the excess. Countries and ports determine the amount of taxes and port fees and can change at any time over which the cruise lines have little control other than not stopping at that port.
