obviously Carnival but some stuff was clearly made up

When we were on the Splendor back in 2010, we had a crew member who jumped off the ship and committed suicide It was on our second sea day late in the evening. John Heald was actually the CD back then and he did an admirable job keeping guests informed. We had to remain in the area and conduct a search pattern until early morning when the Mexican Coast Guard released us onto our first port of call. At one of our ports, the comics that started the cruisedisembarked and new performers got on. We went to the late night comedy show to see one of the new comics and apparently no one bothered to tell him what had happened a couple nights before. He went into a bit of his act which referenced someone falling off of a cruise ship. There was an audible gasp from the crowd and you could tell this guy was absolutely clueless as to what had happened. After a minute, he could tell that something wasn't right and he looked off stage to one of the cruise entertainment staff and he asked, "Did something like that happen here?". He was really thrown off, but he managed to recover. I just remember feeling so bad that he was in that position to begin with. Definitely a poor communications job by the Carnival staff!

It was SO uncomfortable for a few minutes...how he managed to get the show back on track, I'll never know!

They definitely dropped the ball! There were a couple of other small snafus related to this. Since we had to stay in the area the jump occurred for so many hours, we were very delayed getting into our first port of call which resulted in an unplanned 1/2 sea day. The activities crew had to come up with things to entertain everyone on the fly. They announced that they would be showing a movie in the main theater and they were planning to show "Up in the Air" - which if you don't know features George Clooney's character who is hired by large companies to come in and lay off their workers. One scene in the movie references a character who lost her job and then committed suicide by jumping off a bridge. John made an announcement later that they changed the movie choice to something else because a scene in this movie would be reminiscent of what happened the evening before. I wouldn't have thought about that scene either - unless of course it happened in the movie!
