Nessie07 Posted April 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Has anyone done any hiking in Skagway? We don't want to book any excursions or tours. More looking for an easy hike we can do on our own. I know there are a lot of options for trails. If you have done some where did you go? Are there any close to town? Thanks! Sea Hag Posted April 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We've done some. The Dewey Lake trail system might be to your liking. As I remember, it was very nice, as far as we went. http://www.alaska.org/assets/content/maps/Trail%20Maps/skagway-trail-guide.pdf
Sea Hag Posted April 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Forgot to say that the trail head is nearby the cruise pier. The linked pdf mentions where to find it.
Northern Aurora Posted April 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2018 The website for the Klondike National Park website also has some ideas for short hikes in the Skagway area: http://www.nps.gov/klgo/planyourvisit
mapleleaves Posted April 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 15, 2018 You can walk thru town out to the Gold Rush Cemetary which is an interesting site. At the edge of the cemetary you'll see signs for a trail to Lower Reid Falls. About 4 mi RT altogether. Before you go to the Cemetary, visit the yukon goldrush museum to get a better understanding of the history. There is information on several trails on the town web site. Download the 'SKAGWAY TRAIL MAP' map for details. http://skagway.com/play/hiking/

oaktreerb Posted April 18, 2018 #11 Share Posted April 18, 2018 Skagway visitor’s bureau has hiking maps and can advise you. The map is probably online. If you want an easy hike I would do Yakutania Point and Smugglers Cove. The trailhead begins just past the airport.
Rare geoherb Posted April 18, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 18, 2018 We walked to the gold rush cemetery and Lower Reid Falls. We then went to the Jewell Gardens, followed by a walk along Dyea Road to Yakutania Point. There's a pedestrian bridge by the airport to get you back to town.
