palmtre2 Posted May 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2018 I thought if I chose a sail away balcony I would be assigned a cabin at the pier, I was immediately assigned a cabin. Not the greatest location perhaps that's why they assigned it?? Now I am getting offers for upgrade upgrade bids, maybe there is a method to their madness??!! chrisc71 Posted May 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Sail away just guarantees a good rate in exchange for letting them put you anywhere.
jdvmd Posted May 22, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Sailaway rates are very good and I have booked them several times.
ray98 Posted May 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2018 No....'assigned at the pier' is not part of the process.
zqvol Posted May 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Very rare that cabins are assigned as late as at th pier, though it happens on occasion. Usually NCL assigns those cabins within minutes of booking.
kenrod Posted May 28, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2018 We originally booked a Sailaway Mini Suite taking our chances on where they would put us. They put us in a Mini Suite with a large balcony, which I though was decent. The catch is that we are close to the front of the ship. My wife is worried about the motion. We shall see in August! Rare BirdTravels Posted May 28, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 28, 2018 They weren't asking about changes. They specifically said cancel. But the OP is cruising in 6 weeks. Large penalties for cancelling. Bad advice.
jdvmd Posted May 28, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 28, 2018 They weren't asking about changes. They specifically said cancel. Sailaway rates are not offered until after final payment. You book the rate, you get the cabin, you cannot change. End of story.

rncruiser Posted May 28, 2018 #15 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I booked a sail away balcony for my upcoming cruise. Actually booked 2, one for DH and myself and one for our young adult children. We got assigned a mid ship balcony and they got a forward balcony. I am thrilled with the mid ship and they are happy with theirs because mommy and daddy are paying so they are just happy to be going. I don’t think I will ever book a specific type of balcony because the savings was just to great to be fussy about where the cabin is located.
