Live Review: Explorer Alaska Cruise May 25th to June 1st (by a disabled vegetarian wi

I’m having problems packing. Lol.

How dressy did people get for formal night on the Explorer? And this may be a silly question, but what was the temperature in the main dining room? I’ve never been to Alaska before so I’m not sure if it’s colder inside than a Caribbean cruise. Thanks so much!!

I would say overall, as nice or nicer tha, the Caribbean, esp 2nd formal night when we saw several tuxes and evening gowns. I would say a cocktail dress and a bitton down/pants (with a blazer ideally) should be fine.

Temp wise, I find the MDR on Caribbean cruises to be very chilly. Here, I brought several wraps but found it fairly neutral.

Yes! So nice to meet you too!

So much laundry and having to cook for ourselves again. Oy vey!

It was great to meet you! We really lucked out with the weather, didn't we? We had an amazing time, but now it's back to reality. I did 4 loads of laundry today!

Thanks for your review, Catladyfemme! I don't have Alaska planned yet, but it is definitely on my bucket list, so I enjoy reading about other people's experiences there. You've given me some great ideas, and maybe even pushed Alaska up a bit on my list of cruises to book next. The only ones who will not be happy when we finally do book Alaska - my two cats because we will be gone longer than our usual Caribbean cruises! They may have cattitudes for a while, but they won't last long!

Thank you for posting!

We depart on June 22nd and your thread has been very helpful in planning our first Alaska cruise. I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering. Hopefully I did not miss the info in the other posts.

Was the main pool open?

Where kids allowed in the Solarium pool?

Was the Flowrider operating?

Are the pool bars open during the day?

It’s difficult to read the cruise compasses on a phone. Did they have theme nights? We have only done Caribbean cruises and they all seem to have a 70’s or 80’s night.

Thx again!

Let's see.

Main pool was open, except day 2 when seas were a bit rough. Water was going all ovet and they wound up draining it. It did not appear that kids were allowed in the Solarium, but it isn't covered anyway, so not sure why theu would prefer to go there.

I do not know about Flowrider, sorry!

The main pool bar was open most days, though not as long of hours as a Caribbean cruise. Solarium bar was never open wjem I was there.

There was a 70s night, and a British Invasion (Beatles, Stones, Queen, etc.) Night.

I did not see any, even though we wanted to use it. Not sure if our 1:45 flight was too early, or if they didn't have it, or if they skipped us.

Was there any information given to you about port valet?

Thank you for your review. It was great to look over. I can’t wait to go in August!!!

We were lucky enough to have a friend (we call them our Fairy Cat Parent) stay with our babies. Cattitudes seemed less when we got back than when we just have someone by daily.

I hope when you finally get to go, you love it as much as we did!

Sorry, another quick question. Do you know if you are able to ask for salad dressing on the side? I could imagine given the volume of people they are serving, they might have it already dressed before they do the plating.

Thanks!

You always can. I've done so for all 5 cruises I've taken.
